This paper studies incentive mechanisms for crowd-powered systems, including applications such as collection of personal data for big-data analytics and crowdsourcing. In big-data analytics using personal data, an individual may control the quality of reported data via a privacy-preserving mechanism that randomizes the answer. In crowdsourcing, the quality of the reported answer depends on the amount of effort spent by a worker or a team. In these applications, incentive mechanisms are critical for eliciting data/answers with target quality. This paper focuses the following two fundamental questions: what is the minimum payment required to incentivize an individual to submit a data/answer with quality level ∈? and what incentive mechanisms can achieve the minimum payment? Let ∈i denote the quality of the data/answer reported by individual i: In this paper, we first derive a lower bound on the minimum amount of payment required for guaranteeing quality level ∈i: Inspired by the lower bound, we propose an incentive mechanism, named Winners-Take-All (WINTALL). WINTALL first decides a winning answer based on the reported data, cost functions of individuals, and some prior distribution;and then pays to individuals whose reported data match the winning answer. Under some assumptions, we show that the expected payment of WINTALL matches the lower bound. In the application of private discrete distribution estimation, we show that WINTALL simply rewards individuals whose reported answers match the most popular answer from the reported ones (the prior distribution is not needed in this case). © 2018 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The impact from Stuxnet worm to SCADA systems in 2010 has been one of the most significant signals of a well-coordinated cyber-Attack is now towards disrupting national critical infrastructures such as power grid governed by SCADA system. The discovery of this worm has put a lot of attention on the strength and security level of security countermeasures of existing critical infrastructure systems such as SCADA that has been long used as a legacy system. One way to assess the strength and security level of a system is through penetration testing and vulnerability assessment that would help in determining weaknesses, loopholes and potential breaches for exploitation in system defences. However, performing a real penetration test and vulnerability assessment in a real critical infrastructure system is infeasible and unlikely to happen because an unintended consequence that might occur can propagate its effect to a wider scale. On the other hand, a replicated system is also infeasible due to the high cost and huge effort required. Therefore, developing a realistic SCADA testbed is the best available option for the cyber-security exercise to take place. This paper describes in-detail a scalable and reconfigurable SCADA testbed for cyber-security analysis. © 2018 Penerbit Universiti All rights reserved.

Development of expert system for bus services in Klang valley

Growing population could be one of the main factors which affect the daily increase in road movement . A developing country like Malaysia still requires transport system planning and development. In 2012, nearly 1.5 million daily and public transport trips in Klang Valley represented almost 30% of the daily main public transportation. Development of an expert system could identify problems on bus services and assist to encounter problems raised based on the expert system. Therefore, this study was aimed to develop an expert system for bus service in Klang Valley. In this study five major cities in west Klang Valley were selected, including Puchong, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang. The Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual (TRCPM) was referred as studyguidelines . Three mainphases were involved in the expert system development by using MATLAB, which include analyzing job scope, management of information knowledge and development of prototype. System was named as BUS-QOS and could be used to identify the bus service quality level in specific locations and obtain suggestions from experts to improve the bus service quality of in that area. At the end of the study, validation, verification and evaluation processes should be done to check the output of system in terms of its operation and result. The result of BUS-QOS was verified based on system analysis and manual calculation. It showed that all designated attributes were almost 100% accurate. The output of the system was based on transportation engineering knowledge which could be easily used by users.

Evaluating the quality of services for bus performance in Alor Setars

Traffic congestion is one of the issues raised as the development and urbanization moving forward. Bus services still considered as an public transport option to move from one location to another. Since 1957, bus services have been a primary selection not just a big cities like Kuala Lumpur and Georgetown as well as small town in like Alor Setar, Kota Bahru and others. As the demand increase year by year, the quality of service is expected to be improved as well. Recently, public transport in small cities in Malaysia also faced a huge competition with E-hailing services such as Grab and MyCar. Therefore, these paper is to determine the service quality of bus performance in Alor Setar, Kedah. These studies were conducted in April 2019. Service quality data have been taken at Terminal Shahab Perdana, Alor Setar. Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual (TCRPM) has been stated as a specific guidelines and key indicators to determine the quality service of bus performance in designated area. There were four specific areas would be focused in these studies such as service frequency, hours of service, factors of passenger load, on time performance. Based on the results, it shows that only passenger load factor has classified as A quality of service in these studies. The hours of services and on time performance were classified as Class D while the service frequency was classified as Class F. The overall quality of service in Alor Setar, Kedah is classified as Class D which consider as moderate as there is a lot of issues should be addressed. Some improvement on these three attributes should be made to increase the quality of service. Authorities also could use the outcome of these studies to determine and identifies the significant improvements for bus service on these areas.

With a lot of personal information being stored in the smartphones nowadays, there is an urgent need to protect them from unauthorised access. The first line of defense of a smartphone is its screen lock. Thus, many screen locking methods have been designed with the aim of minimising, if not eliminating the chances of unauthorised access through attacks such as shoulder surfing. This paper provides an overview on the state of research on non-biometric shoulder surf resistant screen locking methods with the aim to identify the techniques used by these methods in defending against shoulder surf attacks. A systematic literature review performed found a total of 84 methods designed and developed to date, which covers the time span of ten years. A notably higher number of new methods was published each year during the last five years and the number continues to grow steadily, indicating the relevance and currentness of the research area. Non-biometric screen locking methods in particular was found to constitute the majority of the methods with 50 methods. During the analysis, these methods were first vertically classified into PIN-based, pattern-based and image-based. Then they were horizontally categorised into those that use fixed password and those that use one-time password to unlock the screen. At the end of the analysis, a total of ten shoulder surf resistant techniques used in these methods was extracted. These techniques were used either in isolation or in combination with one another. Findings from this study would be useful in providing the state-of-the-art summary of the non-biometric shoulder surf resistant screen locking methods.

Today, information era where data is being generated at high in volume, variety, and velocity, a new technology is needed to cope with such data. Companies are no longer depends on the traditional tools and techniques to cater and handle data. Not only ending on how to store and process the data, they also wanted to gain insight of the data to optimize business process and gain a larger profit. To satisfy these requirements, a good analytic method must be applied to big data in order to extract value and knowledge from these data sets. While computer engineers are working on that part, this valuable data is also being eyed somewhere else. New attacks and attempts to taint the security, privacy, and integrity of the data are being developed somewhere without we knowing. This paper aims to analyze different analytics methods and tools, which can be applied in big data environment, in actionable time while at the same time extract evidence of intrusion in order for the results to be presented in a court of law fitting a digital forensic process.

This paper explores the exposome concept and its role in elucidating the interplay between environmental exposures and human health. We introduce two key concepts critical for exposomics research. Firstly, we discuss the joint impact of genetics and environment on phenotypes, emphasizing the variance attributable to shared and nonshared environmental factors, underscoring the complexity of quantifying the exposome's influence on health outcomes. Secondly, we introduce the importance of advanced data-driven methods in large cohort studies for exposomic measurements. Here, we introduce the exposome-wide association study (ExWAS), an approach designed for systematic discovery of relationships between phenotypes and various exposures, identifying significant associations while controlling for multiple comparisons. We advocate for the standardized use of the term "exposome-wide association study, ExWAS," to facilitate clear communication and literature retrieval in this field. The paper aims to guide future health researchers in understanding and evaluating exposomic studies. Our discussion extends to emerging topics, such as FAIR Data Principles, biobanked healthcare datasets, and the functional exposome, outlining the future directions in exposomic research. This abstract provides a succinct overview of our comprehensive approach to understanding the complex dynamics of the exposome and its significant implications for human health.

Smart grid produces tremendous volume of data traffic over the grid with each application is being treated with different quality of services (QoS) requirements. High priority applications are allowed to transmit first, followed by medium and low priority applications when the bandwidth is available. However, continuously granting the high priority queue regardless of the request from other queues will cause the high priority queue to monopolize the available bandwidth. In this paper, the universal dynamic bandwidth allocation (UDBA) algorithm is implemented into the smart grid environment to study its performance. The study is done via LabVIEW simulations and the results show that the granted bandwidth is improved by at least 10% since the bandwidth will utilize the excess bandwidth from other queues.

Lightweight cryptography such as PHOTON or LED has a transform named as Mix-Column-Serial (MCS). Within the MCS, matrix manipulations use Galois polynomial multiplications that require lengthy steps of logical operations. This paper proposes the use of a look-up table with comparators to replace the lengthy steps. As PHOTON's Galois matrix multiplication produces identical results for pairs of column-row and row-columns, with comparators, the table size is reduced to half. The tables and comparators have been implemented on FPGAS. FPGA's synthesized results of the newly proposed MCS in the form table with comparators are superior in terms of throughput and area compared to other MCS hardware implementations found in literatures. © 2018 IEEE.
