Blockchain become well known as there is third-party contribution while doing the exchanges or transactions. Blockchain is the innovation for utilizing digital forms of money. It draws in the consideration of specialists and academicians, along with various highlights of Blockchain it is having the significant issue of versatility and scalability which can be classified into throughput, cost, limit, and systems networking. Scalability influences due to some different components like block size and block interval time which likewise may lessen the security. The system may get powerless against various attacks on the off chance that we indiscriminately change the scalability. To address these challenges, this paper con-ducts an intensive analysis of blockchain scalability challenges in the IoT context and subsequently proposes a generic model to enhance scalability. The investigation covers restrictions on different blockchain stages and how system parameters such as throughput, latency, block size, and network influence a peer-topper system’s effectiveness, security, and energy consumption.

Malred: An Innovative Approach for Detecting Malware Using the Red Channel Analysis of Color Images

Technological advancements have significantly progressed and innovated across various industries. However, these advancements have also led to an increase in cyberattacks using malware. Researchers have developed diverse techniques to detect and classify malware, including a visualization-based approach that converts suspicious files into color or grayscale images, eliminating the need for domain-specific expertise. Nonetheless, converting files to color and grayscale images may result in the loss of texture details due to noise, adversely affecting the performance of machine learning models. The aim of this study is to present to assess the texture features and noise contributions of the red, green, and blue channels in color images. We propose a novel method to enhance model performance in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, memory utilization, and computing cost during testing and training. This study introduces an approach involves separating color channels into individual red, green, and blue datasets and using various Discrete Wavelet Transform levels to reduce dimensions and remove noise. The extracted texture characteristics are then used as input for machine learning classifiers for training and prediction. Through comprehensive evaluation, we compare the performance of grayscale images with that of the red, green, and blue datasets. The results show that grayscale images significantly lose critical textural artifacts and perform worse than the color channels. Notably, employing extra tree classifiers yielded the best results, achieving an accuracy of 98.37%, precision of 98.64%, recall of 97.60%, and an f1-score of 98.04% with the red channel of color dataset. © 2024, The Authors. Worldwide, buildings consume about 40 percent of the overall energy resources and contribute to an average of 30 percent of the global carbon emission. Hence, technologies for improving the energy efficiency of buildings play an essential role in the global fight against climate change. The CELSIUS project aims to improve the energy efficiency and indoor climate of medium to large sized commercial and public buildings by developing an integrated system solution that consists of (1) an IoT-enabled and cloud-based platform for monitoring and diagnostics of building energy performance and indoor climate quality, (2) a middleware software platform for cost-effective large-scale deployment of wireless sensors and gateways, and (3) an IoT network management platform for cost-efficient life-cycle maintenance of sensors and gateways. The integrated system solution will be deployed and demonstrated in a 6000 m2 building in Aarhus, Denmark, and an 18,000 m2 building in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. By choosing buildings located in different climate zones on different continents allows the developed system solution to be tested under realistic conditions for the international export market. © 2022, The Author(s).

With the recent COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the Moodle learning management system (LMS) has never been more helpful in classroom management and expanded further to create a more engaging learning space for students worldwide. This study explores and investigates BRIGHTEN, as Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) learning management system for the learning process during and towards the endemic. The students' engagement in active learning was evaluated and measured using the course page activity types of analysis available for two consecutive semesters. The activity types investigated were course slides, teaching and learning activities, and assessments. The study focused on the students' views of the course page material as well as the format and structure of the course page. The results of this study indicated that the students were engaged more with the assessments, followed by the course slides and how the learning activities supported the students' interactive nature. Moreover, the course page structure is encouraged to be designed to incorporate both synchronous and asynchronous learning materials to build balance in any course page contents.

A Cost-Effective Edge computing Gateway for Smart Buildings

The retrofitting of existing buildings with building management systems presents significant challenges, primarily due to the need for labor and cost efficiency. Wireless technology offers a promising solution to these challenges by minimizing the need for extensive wiring and structural alterations. However, achieving retrofitting in a cost-effective manner necessitates the use of low-cost wireless technologies. This paper introduces a framework for constructing a Zigbee gateway using open-source tools combined with low-cost hardware. The proposed architecture addresses large-scale IoT deployments within the Zigbee ecosystem. By leveraging edge computing with the robustness and scalability offered by Zigbee technology, this architecture significantly reduces the economic barriers to retrofit buildings with building management systems. The results underscore the potential of open-source Zigbee technology in aligning with sustainability goals, providing a cost-effective pathway for retrofitting buildings into smart, energy-efficient living environments. © 2024, CC BY.

Peer-to-peer lending systems are popular lately because they offer tremendous benefits over traditional banks and credit institutions. Some of these benefits are low interest rates, shorter disbursement time, quick access to funds, and many more. Such systems are also prone to fraud because clients can supply inaccurate personal, residential, and lifestyle data. In developing countries, there is a lack of proper addressing systems which makes it difficult to accurately identify the borrowers in the peer-to-peer lending system. This work has developed machine learning models to determine the creditworthiness of borrowers and detect fraudulent credit requests in blockchain-based peer-to-peer lending systems. The work used Naïve Bayes, Logistic regression, J48 Decision Tree, and Random Forest algorithms for this task. At the end of the experiments, Logistic regression obtained the highest accuracy of 80.5%, followed by that of J48 and Random Forest algorithms with values of 80% each. Naïve Bayes also obtained an accuracy of 77.9%. The work has similarly presented simple frameworks and designs of a proposed blockchain-based system. The smart contracts prototype was tested and it costs about 0.0023 eth to deploy, and 0.00027 eth to list a loan. © 2024 IEEE.

The configuration of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) in the context of predictive modelling can provide considerable difficulty owing to the complex nature of their arrangements and the need for meticulous hyperparameter adjustment the present study addresses the issue by proposing a more straightforward methodology for configuring Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) through the R programming language the methodology presented in this study offers a systematic and comprehensive framework, ensuring accessibility and simplicity of implementation. This approach aims to enhance the usability of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) for practitioners who need advanced machine learning knowledge. In order to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed methodology, a series of experiments were conducted on a case study in sustainable energy research. This study makes a valuable contribution to academic discipline by establishing a connection between artificial neural network (ANN) theory and its practical application. This study aims to enhance the accessibility of artificial neural network (ANN) setup and provide significant insights to further progress predictive modelling, specifically focusing on sustainable energy research. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, the building sector has experienced an increasing legislative pressure to reduce the energy consumption. This has created a global need for affordable building management systems (BMS) in areas such as lighting-, temperature-, air quality monitoring and control. BMS uses 2D and 3D building representations to visualize various aspects of building operations. Today the creation of these visual building representations relies on labor-intensive and costly computer-aided design (CAD) processes. Hence, to create affordable BMS there is an urgent need to develop methods for cost-effective automatic creation of visual building representations. This paper introduces an automatic, metadata-driven method for constructing building visualizations using metadata from existing smart building infrastructure. The method presented in this study utilizes a Velocity Verlet integration-based physics particle simulation that uses metadata to define the force dynamics within the simulation. This process generates an abstract point cloud representing the organization of BMS components into building zones. The developed system was tested in two buildings of respectively 2,560 m2 and 18,000 m2. The method successfully produced visual building representations based on the available metadata, demonstrating its feasibility and cost-effectiveness. © 2024, CC BY.

Water splitting via photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells offers a promising route to generate hydrogen fuel using solar energy. Nanostructured metal oxides have emerged as leading candidates as photoelectrodes in photocatalytic H₂ production due to their photo-electrochemical stability, large surface area, earth abundance, and suitable band gap energies. This review reports the recent advancements of nanostructured metal oxide as photoanodes in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water-splitting applications. This review focuses on recent advancements in metal oxide photoanodes, their synthesis methods, modification strategies, and performance in PEC water splitting. Critical materials such as TiO₂, Fe₂O₃, WO₃, and BiVO₄ are discussed in detail, highlighting their strengths, limitations, and future research directions to enhance efficiency and stability. This review will give clear insight into the trends and the critical factors for efficient metal oxide photoelectrode to improve the photocatalytic effectiveness in generating hydrogen fuel as an alternative energy source in the future. Finally, this study emphasises the potential of incorporating machine learning methods into experimental workflows to accelerate the optimisation of electrocatalysis performance, representing a significant advancement in developing efficient and sustainable hydrogen production technologies. © 2024

The dam related disaster caused thousands of people's lives and billions of property damages in the world and in Malaysia. The loss of life and property damages is mostly happened due to dam failure and the lack of timely evacuation procedures. Currently, insufficient integrated and comprehensive research are being done in Malaysia, including the impact of dam failures. The interconnection and interdependence of these elements are vital to ensure holistic solutions for dam safety. In this research, we proposed a resilient and intelligent dam safety management program that integrates engineering, cybersecurity and socioeconomic elements to minimize the risks of dam failure. A comparatively new approach named Risk-Informed Decision-Making is proposed in this research which will use the likelihood of loading, dam fragility, and consequences of failure to estimate the risk related to Batu Dam. Investigation of cyber security in dam data will be portrayed to assist in strengthening the security of dam control systems against sophisticated attacks such as APT. Finally, an effective evacuation procedure will be proposed to complete the holistic solution that benefits the nations, dam owners and other related authorities, but more importantly, it will help keep the community safe. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
