This paper presents one of the most interesting generalizations of Gaver’s basic two-unit parallel system sustained by a cold standby unit and attended by a repairman with multiple vacations. The system was studied using the supplementary variables technique, like many other similar semi-Markov systems. D.P. Gaver, Jr. was the first to apply this method for constructing and studying reliability models, and since then it has been then widely used by other researchers to study various reliability problems. As a result, non-classical boundary value problem of mathematical physics with nonlocal boundary conditions has been obtained. Until now, a solution to this problem was obtained in terms of Laplace transforms. Naturally, the most significant part of the problem is a system of partial differential equations (Kolmogorov forward equations). In this study, we demonstrate that Kolmogorov equations are redundant and we can solve the problem by avoiding the necessity of using them. We present here a novel, purely probabilistic approach. The results are formulated as rigorous mathematical statements, offering a significant simplification in the reliability analysis of stochastic systems. Our findings show that this novel approach can be applied to study both semi-Markov and some non semi-Markov models where the supplementary variables technique is used. copyright © Ram Arti Publishers.

The paper describes an actual task of forecasting the quotation time series in a stock market. It defines peculiarities in working with the time series, analyzes the process of dividing the time series into components and methods of the series consolidation in a stationary form. The paper presents theoretical basis for using the Fourier series in forecasting the series. It provides a technique in the Fourier series algorithm finetuning the one-step and long-term forecast. Comparing the forecast results, it analyzes the delay value influence on the algorithm accuracy.

This paper considers a minimum-order observer for the augmented system consisting of the nominal plant model and disturbance generating model (exosystem model). This paper shows that this minimum-order exosystem-model-based observer acts as a disturbance observer. Shikada and Sebe showed that the inverse-model-based disturbance observer can be realized as a full-order Luenberger-type observer for the nominal model. On the other hand, the exosystem-model-based disturbance observer is a full-order observer for the augmented system consisting of the nominal plant model and the exosystem model. Accordingly, the order of the exosystem-model-based disturbance observer is higher than that of the inverse-model-based disturbance observer. The minimum-order exosystem-model-based disturbance observer considered in this paper fills the gap of the difference in order. Furthermore, this paper also clarifies the one-to-one correspondence to the Luenberger-type disturbance observer for the nominal plant model. This correspondence shows that the minimum-order exosystem-model-based disturbance observer can achieve the same characteristics as the inverse-model-based disturbance observer. © 2025 The Society of Instrument and control Engineers.

This paper investigates the identification and resolution of social dilemmas in multi-agent reinforcement learning. The model of multi-agent environment was developed to simulate agent movement within grid-world scenarios. The study focuses on the MiniGrid and MultiGrid environments and proposes a method for multi-agent model-based reinforcement learning in these settings. The method was tested in comparison with value-based Q-learning, Deep Q-Network (DQN), Independent Q-Network (IQN), and Multi-Agent Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (MADDPG) algorithms. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in multi-agent grid-world environments.

Microservice architecture is a key component of modern distributed software systems, providing scalability and independent deployment of individual components. However, many different factors, such as the dynamic variability of modern Internet services and the evolution of user requests, can offset the advantages of microservices. Machine learning algorithms, in particular deep reinforcement learning, are an effective way to optimize distributed software systems, allowing adaptive management of system resources in non-stationary environments. This paper discusses the integration of multi-agent reinforcement learning into a micro service architecture. The paper demonstrates the results of training intelligent agents in the road selection service based on the current weather condition. Three methods of integrating deep Q-Iearning into the microservice architecture were developed, and three classical algorithms of deep reinforcement learning were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the methods.

This study investigates the impact of dialectal variations on the performance of Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) models in Arabic text classification. A comparative analysis is conducted on the performance of three BERT models - Arabic BERT (AraBERT), Multidialectal Arabic BERT (MarBERT), and Multilingual BERT (MBERT) - on a dataset of Arabic tweets with varying dialects. The findings of this study demonstrate that incorporating dialect-specific data in the training set significantly improves model performance, with MarBERT and AraBERT outperforming MBERT. It is also evident that the models encounter difficulties in terms of cross-dialectal performance, underscoring the need for more diverse and representative training data. The present study underscores the significance of incorporating dialectal variations in Arabic natural language processing (NLP) research and suggests that language-specific pre-training can improve model performance. The findings of this study bear implications for the development of more robust Arabic NLP models.

The development and applications of digital twin-driven Decision Support systems (DSS) are discussed. In order to combine the advantages and features of model-driven, data-driven, knowledge-driven, documentation-driven and communication-driven concepts a hybrid approach for DSS design and development is proposed. Basic methods and paradigms of the concepts mentioned above are applied in implementation of hybrid approach. This approach is based on application of digital twins, adaptive digital twins in particular, for solving adaptive control problems in production systems context. A conceptual model of the architecture of adaptive digital twins of production systems is presented. The architecture of the adaptive digital twin has a hierarchical structure and is divided into three levels: 1) visualization and control level (visualization subsystem - human-machine interface; automated control subsystem); 2) simulation and optimization level (simulation subsystem (adaptive multi-agent simulation model; machine learning module); optimization subsystem); 3) data processing and storage level (subsystem of data acquisition, processing, aggregation and storage; data mining subsystem; big data analysis subsystem). The proposed concept for the development of adaptive digital twins is based on the application of an integrated approach combining methods of simulation, artificial intelligence, optimization, decision-making support, control theory, data processing, storage and analysis (including big data), etc.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have transformed natural language processing, yet their deployment remains challenging due to substantial computational, memory, and energy demands. Post-training quantization has emerged as a key strategy for enabling efficient inference, particularly in resource-constrained settings. This systematic review focuses on weight-activation quantization, with a unique emphasis on the emergent outlier phenomenon in LLM activations. This work evaluates recent techniques that mitigate activation outliers and improve quantization efficiency, distinguishing itself from prior reviews. Using the PRISMA methodology, we examine 52 recent studies to uncover key trends and evaluate the effectiveness of different approaches. By synthesizing insights from these works, this review presents a diverse set of techniques and their implications for activation quantization, laying the groundwork for future research and practical advancements in LLM deployment.

The first course of control is under a critical review. Both the teaching material covered and the teaching methods require new considerations. Introducing interactivity in the education process makes the learning more successful and enjoyable. MATLAB provides an effective environment for learning and applying different disciplines. control101 is a new MATLAB toolbox under development which provides tools for interactive learning of control disciplines. This paper presents the framework for teaching discrete control algorithms applied for processes containing large dead times.

Rational Gaussian wavelets and corresponding model driven neural networks

In this paper we consider the continuous wavelet transform using Gaussian wavelets multiplied by an appropriate rational term. The zeros and poles of this rational modifier act as free parameters and their choice highly influences the shape of the mother wavelet. This allows the proposed construction to approximate signals with complex morphology using only a few wavelet coefficients. We show that the proposed rational Gaussian wavelets are admissible and provide numerical approximations of the wavelet coefficients using variable projection operators. In addition, we show how the proposed variable projection based rational Gaussian wavelet transform can be used in neural networks to obtain a highly interpretable feature learning layer. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme through a biomedical application, namely, the detection of ventricular ectopic beats (VEBs) in real ECG *** Codes 65D15 © 2025, CC BY.
