Medical data is sensitive personal data which, according to GDPR and HIPAA, necessitates regulations concerning their use. Anonymizing this data prior to research would allow for broader access, due to a lower sensitivity. Privacy-aware data synthesis has been proposed as a solution. However, current algorithms face difficulties in synthesizing medical data while maintaining privacy and utility. This is due to the structure of medical data which consists of multiple interlinked tables with high dimensional columns containing sequential aspects of the patient trajectory. The resulting number of correlations is intractable to model naively and, if relational correlations are not accounted for, the resulting data has poor utility (e.g., leads to invalid patient trajectories). In this paper, we present MARE, a relational synthesis algorithm which focuses on a set of core correlations found in relational data while pruning others. The resulting lower computational complexity allows MARE to produce accurate relational data. We showcase that MARE can synthesize multiple medical datasets, which contain sequential aspects, while maintaining utility in form of inter-table and inter-row correlations and privacy guarantees.

For the Kidney Exchange Problem (KEP), one has a barter exchange market represented by a digraph with vertices corresponding to either immunologically incompatible donor-acceptor pairs, non-directed donors, cadavers, or unpaired recipients, and directed edges corresponding to possible kidney exchanges. The objective is then to solve the associated clearing problem of finding an above threshold weight partition of the network into vertex-disjoint transplant cycles and/or paths. In this work – with a primary motivation being the broad applicability of the KEP model to barter exchange markets of indivisible goods – we conduct a theoretical investigation of the problem of uniformly, and in this sense "fairly", sampling witnesses for a formalization of the KEP we denote KEP-Lc,Lp,Υ, where we have cycle and path vertex-wise length constraints Lc and Lp, respectively, and where we require that the sum of all edge weights in a partition is at least Υ∈N0. Here, for KEP-∞,∞,0, we provide an O4g·n4·m time uniform sampling scheme (assuming access to an idealized coin flipping oracle) for networks on n vertices and m edges admitting bimodal embeddings (i.e., embeddings where each set of edges oriented away from a given vertex occur contiguously in a rotational ordering of edges incident to the vertex) on genus ≤g surfaces, as well as a Fully Polynomial-time Almost Uniform Sampling (FPAUS) scheme for arbitrary genus digraphs. Subsequently, taking inspiration from recent rapid experimental advances in using boson sampling (respectively, Guassian boson sampling) to approximate the permanents (respectively, hafnians) of complex matrices, we reduce the uniform sampling problem for KEP-Lc,Lp,Υ to calculating permanents of hollow Hermitian {-1,0,1} matrices. In research institutions, the ability to monitor and analyze publication output is crucial for assessing productivity and achieving strategic goals. This paper presents a dashboard designed to visualize and analyze publication data from a research center of the Indonesian public institution. The dashboard addresses several key questions: (1) whether the current number of publications is on track to meet the institution’s targets, (2) the comparison between journal and proceeding publications, (3) individual researcher productivity, (4) research group productivity, and (5) the collaborative efforts among researchers and groups. By leveraging this tool, stakeholders can gain insights into publication trends and identify areas for improvement. The findings reveal significant trends in publication types and collaboration patterns, offering a comprehensive overview of the institution’s research output. This study contributes to the understanding of research productivity metrics and their implications for strategic planning in academic research.

We investigate the compression sensitivity [Akagi et al., 2023] of lex-parse [Navarro et al., 2021] for two operations: (1) single character edit and (2) modification of the alphabet ordering, and give tight upper and lower bounds for both operations. For both lower bounds, we use the family of Fibonacci words. For the bounds on edit operations, our analysis makes heavy use of properties of the Lyndon factorization of Fibonacci words to characterize the structure of lex-parse. © 2024, CC BY.

In this study, we explore the metaverse, a virtual realm blending the digital and real worlds. The metaverse promises immersive experiences, and we focus on creating lifelike avatars and environments within a scientific hub called the science and Technology Region (KST). We use a method called terrestrial photogrammetry to make 3D avatars, focusing on researchers at KST. The results show that Agisoft Metashape makes highly precise 3D models with symmetrical details, while the KIRI Engine is faster in processing. These findings suggest that we can make better avatars and environments in the metaverse, but the choice between precision and speed depends on the specific application.

Learning and forecasting stochastic time series is essential in various scientific fields. However, despite the proposals of nonlinear filters and deep-learning methods, it remains challenging to capture nonlinear dynamics from a few noisy samples and predict future trajectories with uncertainty estimates while maintaining computational efficiency. Here, we propose a fast algorithm to learn and forecast nonlinear dynamics from noisy time series data. A key feature of the proposed model is kernel functions applied to projected lines, enabling fast and efficient capture of nonlinearities in the latent dynamics. Through empirical case studies and benchmarking, the model demonstrates its effectiveness in learning and forecasting complex nonlinear dynamics, offering a valuable tool for researchers and practitioners in time series analysis. Acupuncture point location information is significant to the effect of acupuncture therapy. A wealth of knowledge related to acupuncture point locations is typically dispersed across books or reports in free-text format, which can pose challenges for machines to understand and facilitate. In this study, our purpose is to develop a natural language processing (NLP) tool to extract acupuncture point location information. We adopted the World Health Organization (WHO) Standard Acupuncture Point Locations in the Western Pacific Region (WHO Standard) as our reference standard and corpus. Our proposed approach to develop and validate the NLP tool involves three key steps: 1) We leveraged pre-existing terminologies from the anatomy domain, specifically the International Anatomical Terminology (IAT) and Uber-anatomy Ontology (UBERON), to construct a baseline dictionary of acupoint locations. This dictionary was then used in conjunction with a dictionary lookup method to match terms in the acupuncture location descriptions outlined by the WHO Standard; 2) We employed NLP models based on machine learning and deep learning techniques, specifically utilizing Conditional Random Fields (CRFs) and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) for training. The CRFs and RNN models achieved overall F1 scores of 0.955 and 0.945, respectively; 3) We encoded the extracted entities into standardized concepts and enriched the baseline dictionary using these entities. In this study, a customized NLP tool was developed and validated for extracting acupuncture point location terms. This tool can be used in various informatics applications to support acupuncture research, education, and practices.

Local 5G refers to a private 5G network that can be independently constructed and operated by various entities, such as municipalities and enterprises. It is highly anticipated as a technology capable of addressing diverse societal challenges. In August 2023, a local 5G system was deployed at Hiroshima University's Higashi-Hiroshima campus, intended for use as a testbed environment for practical applications and experimental verification. In this research, we have measured radio wave propagation characteristics and transmission performance to comprehensively understand the unique features and fundamental capabilities of the local 5G system within the campus environment. Based on these measurement results, a visualization application is being developed to represent the findings effectively. However, experimental and measurement activities in physical environments often face constraints such as time, space, and physical limitations. To overcome these challenges and provide users with more flexible opportunities to validate experiments on the local 5G, this study aims to build a digital twin model of the local 5G testbed environment and implement it within the visualization application. This approach seeks to clarify the system's characteristics and performance further. This paper introduces the radio and communication environment visualization application and discusses the conceptual design and prospects for integrating the digital twin model into the system.

Background: Tirzepatide—a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist—exerts pleiotropic effects on cardiometabolic health. Objectives: The authors sought to investigate the efficacy of tirzepatide in improving different cardiometabolic risk factors across individuals and subpopulations. Methods: Using an independent, global data-sharing and analytics platform, we performed an individual participant data meta-analysis by pooling data from 7 Phase 3 randomized clinical trials that compared tirzepatide with placebo or standard antihyperglycemic agents in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The study outcomes were the presence of a range of cardiometabolic abnormalities, representing components of metabolic syndrome (MetS) (elevated waist circumference, triglycerides, blood pressure, and fasting blood glucose, and decreased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol), as well as elevated body mass index and MetS (≥3 cardiometabolic abnormalities). Outcomes were modeled using mixed-effects models, with inverse probability weighting to account for study design differences. Results: We included 7,805 participants with a weighted median age of 59 years (Q1-Q3: 51-66 years) and 43.2% women. Over a weighted median treatment duration of 41.0 weeks, tirzepatide reduced the odds of all cardiometabolic abnormalities, ranging from 34% reduction for the odds of decreased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (OR: 0.66 [95% CI: 0.52-0.84]) to 96% reduction in the odds of elevated body mass index (OR: 0.04 [95% CI:0.02-0.08]), and 72% reduction for the odds of MetS (OR: 0.28 [95% CI: 0.24-0.33]). Tirzepatide's superior efficacy in resolving MetS was consistent across demographic and clinical subpopulations, with higher efficacy in age <65 years vs ≥65 years, and in individuals without vs with baseline use of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (P for interaction = 0.008 and 0.009, respectively).
