Based on mode coupling theory and angular momentum matching principle, the generation process and mechanism of radial higher-order orbital angular momentum (OAM) based on helically-twisted elliptic fiber (HTEF) is analyzed. High-precision HTEFs are successfully fabricated using the arc discharge technology of a fusion splicer. By changing the twisted rate of the HTEF, OAM -2n with radial order n of 2, 3, 4 and 5 are successfully generated at 1550 nm. Subsequently, we compare the differences in twisted rates between simulations and experiments. © 2023 IEEE.

To solve the problem that the current skin lesion segmentation networks have a poor segmentation accuracy when lesion areas are of different shapes and sizes and low contrast at the edge areas, based on U-Net, we present a skin lesion segmentation network based on multi-scale and improved skip connections. Firstly, a multi-scale feature enhancement module is designed to replace the U-Net's 3× 3 convolution blocks, which can improve the feature extraction ability of the network about lesion areas of different shapes and sizes. Secondly, a lesion attention module is introduced into the skip connection to improve the semantic expression of low-level features and the location attention of high-level features, which can improve the fine-grained information transmission efficiency at the skip connection. Finally, a new hybrid loss function is designed to calculate the label and the edge loss of lesion areas, which improves the ability of the network to segment lesion areas and edges. Experiments are conducted on the ISIC2017 and ISIC2018 datasets, and the results prove that our method have a higher segmentation accuracy in skin lesion segmentation. © 2024 IEEE.

Communities exist anywhere in various complex networks, and community evolution tracking is one of the most well-liked areas of inquiry in the study of dynamic complex networks. Community evolution tracking has many applications in daily life, such as predicting social network behaviors or analyzing the spread of infectious illnesses. However, the majority of existing evolution tracking algorithms obtain community detection results before matching the community in tracking evolution events, making it difficult to trace the whole evolution of communities because of community matching errors. In addition, the majority of evolution tracking algorithms do not adequately account for the potential scenarios in community evolution, resulting in erroneous detection of evolution events. In this research, a community evolution tracking algorithm based on edge variation discerning and core node extension is proposed. First, we detect communities based on the core node extension strategy, which avoids the problem of community matching errors. Second, we track community evolution based on the edge variation discerning strategy, which fully considers various situations that may occur during the community evolution process. According to the outputs of our experiments, our system can effectively track the evolution of communities in synthetic dynamic networks. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Thyroid nodules, which can manifest as solitary or multiple growths, are among the most prevalent diseases with a high incidence rate. When examining thyroid nodules, ultrasound is typically the first step. Ultrasound image segmentation of thyroid nodules can assist physicians in diagnosis. However, the following three factors limit the development of thyroid nodule segmentation: (1) most of the existing studies optimize the segmentation of single nodules, and the incidence of multiple nodules is higher, so the segmentation of multiple nodules is also very important;(2) the ultrasound image of thyroid nodules is difficult to segment because of its low resolution and fuzzy boundary;(3) Due to the small data set of thyroid nodule ultrasound, in such a small dataset, attention mechanisms may be prone to overfitting, resulting in poorer generalization performance. Therefore, the attention-based model may not be suitable for the segmentation of thyroid nodules. Hence, we propose Hybrid Convolutional U-Net (HCU-Net), a simple and strong fully convolutional neural network for the segmentation of single or multiple thyroid nodules. HCU-Net incorporates a large receptive field to ensure accurate and stable segmentation. Specifically, we design Hybrid Branch Block to enhance the network's feature extraction capability for single or multiple nodules in ultrasound images by integrating multi-scale features. Furthermore, we add Enhanced ConvNeXt Blocks to the U-Net's final layer, enabling the extraction of global contextual information for segmentation performance. The Experimental results show that our proposed method can effectively improve these issues on two publicly available datasets. In addition, compared to attention-based models, our network is simpler and more suitable for small datasets like ultrasound images. © 2024 IEEE.

For voice activity detection (VAD), recent works focus on learning the attention distribution on contextual information of speech to reduce the impact of irrelevant noise. However, contextual frames selected with specific steps may not be relevant, and these attention mechanisms can not fully discover the structure and characteristics of speech. In this paper, we explore a self-attention-inspired locality-sensitive hashing algorithm (SALSH) for dynamic and efficient contextual frame selection to enrich the frame-level features into a 2D partial spectrogram. Then, we propose a residual frequency-temporal attention model (FTAM) for VAD, consisting of an interval branch, an analogous hourglass structure with channel attention, and an attention learning mechanism for speech based on frequency-temporal attention. On the LibriSpeech and TIMIT datasets, the proposed method outperforms the others in terms of area under the curve (AUC), even under extremely low signal-to-noise ratio of -15dB. © 2024 International Speech Communication Association. The legal judgement prediction (LJP) of judicial texts represents a multi-label text classification (MLTC) problem, which in turn involves three distinct tasks: the prediction of charges, legal articles, and terms of penalty. Nevertheless, extant multi-label text classification models tend to eschew the consideration of multiple correlations and semantic information between labels when predicting judicial texts, which may result in the loss of pertinent information. Furthermore, these models do not take full advantage of the local and overall information of the labels in the process of selecting appropriate labels for the text using the multi-head attention mechanism. To address these issues, we propose a new model, BGFLFF, which explores label correlation and semantics among the three tasks by employing Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) and multi-head attention mechanisms. In particular, we propose a Bi-Graph Fusion GCN (BGF-GCN), which fuses the co-occurrence matrix of labels with the cosine similarity matrix, thereby fully exploiting the multiple correlations between labels. Furthermore, prior to embedding the tags, the interpretations of the labels are obtained via Google in order to enhance the semantic information between the labels. To further reinforce the interconnections between labels and text and more effectively comprehend the interrelationships between the three tasks, we propose a Multi-Head Label Feature Fusion Attentional Mechanism (MH-LFFAtt), which assigns distinct weights to the pertinent label information in the text by fusing the local and overall features of the labels. The experimental results demonstrate that the F1 score exhibits an improvement of up to 2. 2 8 % and a minimum of 1. 2 9 % across the various tasks of the two datasets. This evidence substantiates the assertion that BGFLFF outperforms the existing baseline model. © 2024 IEEE.

Cell-free networks and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) are two promising techniques for future wireless communications. The integration of RIS into cell-free networks, termed RIS-aided cell-free networks, offers the potential to significantly enhance network performance. However, the realization of this potential is constrained by the limited capacities of the fronthaul links. To address this challenge, we investigate the joint design of access point (AP) clustering, transmit and passive beamforming in RIS-aided cell-free networks. The objective is to maximize the weighted sum-rate performance while minimizing the number of clustered APs to alleviate the fronthaul overhead. The problem is formulated in a group sparse manner, employing a mixed zero-norm/two-norm term to represent the number of the clustered APs. To solve this problem, we first approximate the mixed zero-norm/two-norm term by the mixed one-norm/two-norm term and provide its equivalent formulation by introducing receive beamforming vectors and weight parameters. Then, an iterative method is proposed based on the block coordinate descent (BCD) technique, which is guaranteed to converge to a stationary point. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Recent network telemetry witnesses tremendous progress in two directions: query-driven telemetry that targets expressiveness as the primary goal, and sketch-based algorithms that address resource-accuracy trade-offs. In this paper, we propose AutoSketch that aims to integrate the advantages of both classes. In a nutshell, AutoSketch automatically compiles high-level operators into sketch instances that can be readily deployed with low resource usage and incur limited accuracy drop. However, there remains a gap between the expressiveness of high-level operators and the underlying realization of sketch algorithms. AutoSketch bridges this gap in three aspects. First, AutoSketch extends its interface derived from existing query-driven telemetry such that users can specify the desired telemetry accuracy. The specified accuracy intent will be utilized to guide the compiling procedure. Second, AutoSketch leverages various techniques, such as syntax analysis and performance estimation, to construct efficient sketch instances. Finally, AutoSketch automatically searches for the most suitable parameter configurations that fulfill the accuracy intent with minimum resource usage. Our experiments demonstrate that AutoSketch can achieve high expressiveness, high accuracy, and low resource usage compared to state-of-the-art telemetry solutions. © 2024 Proceedings of the 21st USENIX Symposium on Networked Systems Design and Implementation, NSDI 2024.
