A greedy algorithm for the k-median problem

This paper first presents a greedy algorithm for the K-median problem and then proves that the approximation ratio of the greedy algorithm is at most O(lnn). The test data shows that the greedy algorithm can get good results in actual computation and about 90% clients can be serviced by the nearest, the second nearest and the third nearest facility. 1553-9105/Copyright © 2015 Binary information Press

A fast classification method using SVM based on affinity propagation clustering algorithm

The classification speed of SVM is inversely proportional to the number of Support Vectors (SVs). Therefore, the less SVs mean the more sparseness and the higher classification speed. In order to reduce the number of SVs but without lossing of generalization performance, a new algorithm called Fast Classification Method Using SVM Based on Affinity Propagation clustering algorithm (FCSVM-AP) is proposed, which employs Affinity Propagation (AP) clustering algorithm to cluster the original SVs and the cluster centers are used as the new SVs, then aiming to minimize the classification gap between SVM and FCSVM-AP, a quadratic programming model is built for obtaining the optimal coefficients of the new SVs. Meanwhile, it is proven that when clustering the original SVs, the minimal upper bound of the error between the original decision function and the fast decision function can be achieved by AP. Finally, experiments show that compared with original SVs, the number of SVs decreases and the speed of classification increases using FCSVM-AP, while the loss of accuracy is in the acceptable level. © 2015 by Binary information Press

Semantic-based image retrieval using decision tree induction

This paper proposes a method of semantic-based image retrieval using decision tree learning. The method includes two key points. (1) It can retrieve images with high-level semantics. Firstly we extract low-level features of the training images and obtain their semantic labels using an improved decision tree learning named DT-SL. So the continuous-valued features are converted into discrete ones to avoid complicated feature discretization problems. Then we can retrieval those images whose semantic label is consistent with that of the query example. (2) After color and texture features extraction, we conduct a process of feature fusion using CCA in order to strengthen the correlations between the features. Experimental results demonstrate that our method performs better compared with the two classical decision tree algorithms ID3 and C4.5, and semantic-based image retrieval can get better retrieval performance than content-based image retrieval. ©, 2014, Journal of Computational information Systems. Rectification algorithm from single image based on the main vanishing points

Considering the relative positions of the camera and object in three-dimensional space, there is always a perspective deformation, which affects the subsequent image processing, between the object in the image collected from camera and the object in the real world. Because the depth information in three-dimensional image is lost in the two-dimensional image, the image rectification will meet some difficulties. This paper puts forward an efficient single image rectification algorithms based on the main vanishing points, which provides a method for fast rectification for a single image and obtains a better effect with few known conditions. Research of the application of CP-ABE algorithm in ABAC model under cloud environment

To solve the data security problem in the Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC) mechanism under cloud environment, an improved access control model which can share XACML framework with CP-ABE algorithm is proposed. The research is done from several aspects of formal definition and security analysis and simulation experiments. What is more, the concepts of attribute mapping table and key attribute are introduced into the model, which improves the eficiency of CP-ABE algorithm and improves the security of the system under cloud environment. Compared with the traditional application method of cipher strategy in ABAC model, the improved model has higher eficiency and less storage consumption when CP-ABE algorithm is used to execute encryption and decryption operations. ©, 2014, Journal of Computational information Systems. A photo-realistic crowd simulation system

Crowd simulation system can provide fundamental guide on crowd behaviors in real life. For instance, it can be applied to emergency evacuation of large public places to reduce casualties and property losses. However, in current crowd simulation systems, the crowd models and motions are basically made by artists manually. Since only one or few models are used in animation to cut cost of man power, the characters and the corresponding behaviors are generally lack of variety. Thus, it is necessary to build a crowd simulation system which can create realistic results efficiently. This paper presents a new algorithm to achieve the photo-realistic crowd simulation. First, we adopt Microsoft Kinect to construct lifelike human models. Second, the realistic motions are obtained by assigning the motion capture data to these human models. Third, we employ A* and RVO algorithm to plan the path of crowd movement. Finally, we implement a real-time crowd simulation system on XNA/MonoGame. ©, 2015, Binary information Press. Transforming GIS data into road scenes for crowd simulation

The simulation of crowd evacuation has a great significance. It contributes to the formulation of corresponding contingency plans, guides the design of the scene, as well as can prevent or reduce the casualties in emergency situation. How to construct crowd simulation scene quickly is one of the main challenges. Traditional construction of simulation environment depends on 3D scene modeling. However this method is inefficient which takes a long period due to the complexity of modeling. In order to reduce the complexity of scene modeling, this paper puts forward an efficient method for enhancing a road map from Geographic information System (GIS) data. We can construct a road scene to be used in crowd simulation. First, we extract geometrical information (e. g., vector data) of the roads from the 2D map by using GIS. Then we define the topological relationships and construct a topological graph of the roads. Based on the above geometrical and topological information, we transform GIS data into road scenes for crowd simulation. The simulation results show that the method can significantly improve the efficiency of environment construction and crowd simulation in the complex scene. ©, 2015, Journal of information and Computational Science. In this study we modified the local binary pattern operator (LBP) to obtain the robust invariant texture patterns for image texture classification. The modified method will be able to calculate patterns which are invariant for translation, scaling, rotation and reflection. Therefore, the modified LBP is called R-LBP. Although many variation of LBP have been proposed, most of them cannot detect and recognize the patterns of reflection. Both clockwise and counter clockwise coding is used in the proposed R-LBP operator in order to derive a minimum code to representing the pattern. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in determining the invariant patterns for image texture classification. © 2015 ACM.

Kinect based 3D human body modeling in the large-scale real-time crowd simulation

Depth sensor input devices, such as Microsoft Kinect, are generally used to reconstruct 3D human body models. However, the human models based on Kinect cannot be used to large-scale real-time crowd simulation for the massive rendering calculation. Therefore, it is quite challenging to simplify the models while guaranteeing the precision of the models. In this paper, we propose a novel method for simplifying models based on Kinect. First, we optimize the border edges of the original model reconstructed by Kinect. Second, we adopt edge's curvature and area error to compute the edge collapsing cost. Finally, we reconstruct the model. The simulation results show that our method is practical and robust, therefore it can be applied to the crowd simulation efficiently. TP-ABC: A two-layer path planning method for crowd simulation

With the rapid development of economy and society, public activities are increased significantly. Since these situations involved growing security threats, it is of great importance to create emergency plan. In order to improve the efficiency of the evacuation and reduce the risk of a crowd crush, we present a two-layer path planning method for crowd simulation based on topology structure and artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm (TP-ABC for short). The first layer computes feasible paths based on topology structure. The second layer selects the optimal paths and simulates crowd motion based on improved ABC algorithm, which includes the idea of population dividing and accessibility evaluation. According to the experimental results, our method can improve the efficiency of evacuation and find the optimal paths in real time. The suggested method avoids congestion and improves security which provides support in large-scale crowd evacuation. ©, 2015, Binary information Press. All right reserved.
