In this study we investigate the recently introduced competition format for the top association football division in Poland (similar to one used in, e.g., Belgium and Kazakhstan). We compare it to the double round-robin tournament which is the most prevalent league for-mat among European leagues. In a simulation study we show that the new league format has better ability to determine the strongest competitor as the winner of a league as well as it yields higher correlation with theoretical latent teams' strength parameters in the model.

Multi-sensor based classification of professionals' activities plays a key role in ensuring the success of an his/her goals. In this paper we present the winning solution to the AAIA'15 Tagging Firefighter Activities at a Fire Scene data mining competition. The approach is based on a Random Forest classifier trained on an input data set with almost 5000 features describing the underlying time series of sensory data.

There are information mining methodologies that emphasize the importance of planning for requirements elicitation along the entire project in an orderly, documented, consistent and traceable manner. However, given the characteristics of this type of project, the approach proposed by the classical requirements engineering is not applicable to the process of identifying the problem of information mining, nor allows to infer from the business domain modelling, the information mining process which solves it. This paper proposes an extension of semantic nets and frames to represent knowledge of the business domain, business problem and problem of information mining;and a methodology to derive the information mining process from the proposed knowledge representations is introduced. © 2014 Springer International Publishing Switzerland.

information Mining projects are a special type of Software Engineering projects with the objective of extracting non-trivial knowledge from available data repositories. information mining projects share similar problems with Software Engineering projects. Most of these problems should be handled at the initial activities of the project. But there is no model to analyze and evaluate the project feasibility which could be used to predict the main project risks. In this context, the objective of this paper is to propose and validate an ad-hoc model that can be used at the beginning of an information Mining project in order to analyze its feasibility. In this study, capital flow analysis is applied based on ecosystem theory to develop an understanding of the establishment and sustainability of digital ecosystem infrastructure in a developing economy. For empirical understanding cases were taken from university-wide network development initiatives in Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and from continued efforts that realized the Ethiopian Educational and Research Network (EthERNet). The study attempts to identify mechanisms for the initiatives and continued contributions to maintain the health of digital ecosystem infrastructure. Critical realism is employed as an approach for the investigation. The analysis of the cases demonstrates the value of capital flow analysis to understand the healthiness of digital ecosystem infrastructure. Based on the results obtained, the study also proposes a model to investigate on the sustainability of broader digital ecosystems infrastructure in the country. Copyright © 2012 ACM.

Previous studies concerned with mobile financial services for the poor have been narrowly conceived, mainly depending on secondary data and focusing on technical design issues without having fully understood individuals' complex relationships and money practices. In order to contribute to this knowledge gap and inform mobile money system design, an exploratory case study investigated social relationships and social payment practices among rural individuals in Ethiopia. Key findings regarding their money exchange practices include: (1) secrecy and disclosure of money exchange practices (2) acceptance and or rejection of money gift for some reasons, (3) personalize money giving and accepting practices, and finally (4) separating and labeling of money based on its purpose and source. A qualitative exploratory research approach with key informant focus group discussions served as the primary means of information gathering. Copyright © 2012 ACM.

Based on a thorough literature review of social tagging and on technology acceptance models, we developed and empirically validated a motivational model to predict users' acceptance to add and share tagging content. Four factors successfully predicted users' intention to add and share metadata tagging content. Unlike previous studies on virtual communities, Reciprocity was found to be positively related to attitude whereas, in line with previous research, Ease of Use and Personal Productivity were confirmed to have substantial influence on users' attitude, which in turn affects the intention towards creating and sharing tagging content. Our findings are expected to shed light on developing strategies to understand and promote tagging content contribution and sharing which have the potential to increase the collective power and intelligence of the community. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

作者： John Maeda Steven Heller Tim Hoover Has been a design partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers since January 2014 helping entrepreneurs and portfolio companies to build design into their company cultures. He served as the president of Rhode Island School of Design for six years through 2013 and also served as an associate director of research at the MIT Media Lab. Maeda has been a practicing designer since 1990 and his work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Cartier Foundation. He serves on the boards of several corporations including Sonos and Wieden + Kennedy and is chair of eBay's Design Advisory Board. His four published books include The Laws of Simplicity and Redesigning Leadership. Maeda is the recipient of a variety of international awards for his creative work including induction into the Art Director's Club Hall of Fame. In 2001 he received the White House National Design Award in 2002 he received the Mainichi Design Prize in Japan and in 2005 he was awarded the Raymond Loewy Foundation Prize in Germany. Maeda earned a BS and an MS from MIT in computer science and electrical engineering. He received a PhD in design science from the University of Tsukuba Institute of Art and Design in Japan as well as an MBA from Arizona State University. Co‐chair and co‐founder of the MFA Designer as Author and Entrepreneur program at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He was the art director of The New York Times Book Review and now writes the VISUALS column for the NYTBR. He also writes “The Daily Heller” at *** a weekly online design column for Atlantic magazine. He is author co‐author and editor of more than 165 books on the history and practice of graphic design illustration and satiric art. His forthcoming books include 100 Classic Graphic Design Magazines (Laurence King Publishers) and Raw Data: The Process Behind Information Graphics (Thames + Hudson). Identifying transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs) is crucial for understanding the mechanism of transcriptional regulation. It is known that transcription factors (TFs) often cooperate to regulate genes. While traditional approaches can be used to discover binding motifs of a group of co-regulated genes, they often fail to accurately assign motifs to the corresponding TFs. Here, we consider two TFs together to infer their TFBSs and their synergistic relationship simultaneously. The basic idea is that if two TFs interact, their TFBSs, if distinct, would be conserved across species and coincided in the promoter regions of the genes they co-regulated. Applying our method to Saccharomyces cerevisiae chromatin immunoprecipitation data, we predicted 110 TF pairs with statistically significant motif assignments. A majority of these TF pairs have literature support to be synergistic, and the designated motifs to TFs match well with their known consensus. We further examined the synergism of predicted TF pairs in seven experimental conditions using ANOVA, and identified significant interactions. © 2011 IEEE.
