Creating an applicable and precise failure prediction system is highly desirable for decision makers and regulators in the finance industry. This study develops a new Failure Prediction (FP) approach which effectively integrates a fuzzy logic-based adaptive inference system with the learning ability of a neural network to generate knowledge in the form of a fuzzy rule base. This FP approach uses a preprocessing phase to deal with the imbalanced data-sets problem and develops a new Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN) including an adaptive inference system in the learning algorithm along with its network structure and rule generation algorithm as a means to reduce prediction error in the FP approach.

The benefits of using mobile sink to prolong sensor network lifetime have been well recognized. However, few provably theoretical results remain are developed due to the complexity caused by time-dependent network topology. In this work, we investigate the optimum routing strategy for the static sensor network. We further propose a number of motion stratifies for the mobile sink(s) to gather real time data from static sensor network, with the objective to maximize the network lifetime. Specially, we consider a more realistic model where the moving speed and path for mobile sinks are constrained. Our extensive experiments show that our scheme can significantly prolong entire network lifetime and reduce delivery delay.

Satisfiability modulo theories (SMT) play a key role in verification applications. A crucial SMT problem is to combine separate theory solvers for the union of theories. In previous work, the simplex method is used to determine the solvability of constraint systems and the equalities implied by constraint systems are detected by a multitude of applications of the dual simplex method. We present an effective simplex tableau-based method to identify all implicit equalities such that the simplex method is harnessed to an irreducible minimum. Experimental results show that the method is feasible and effective.

Network traffic generation has always been a hot spot in network measurement and simulation research. However, traditional methods of generating network traffic are either insufficient in fulfilling bandwidth requirement or matching the characteristics of a real network. In this paper we propose a platform of generating high bandwidth real-time network traffic with self-similarity characteristic. The high bandwidth real-time generating feature guarantees the feasibility and self-similarity characteristic makes the platform more reliable. In the platform, we choose Cavium OCTEON CN3860 as the core and implemented ON/OFF aggregation model in a discrete-event way. The Hurst parameter of synthetic traffic is estimated both by R/S statistics method and wavelet estimator. Although there are differences between two estimators in various kinds of conditions, the validation of the platform is empirically discussed and proved. ©2009 IEEE.

ON/OFF aggregation model is one of the efficient and accurate models for self-similar network traffic generation. In this paper we propose and compare three algorithms of implementing ON/OFF aggregation model, based on Cavium OCTEON CN3860 network processor, aimed to achieve high-bandwidth and real-time network traffic generation. The model is implemented in a multi-thread approach, in a token-bucket approach and in a discrete-event approach. The Hurst parameter of synthetic traffic is estimated by wavelet estimator, and the validation of the last algorithm is empirically discussed and proved. ©2009 IEEE.

Achievements of network traffic simulation provide realistic, feasible and accurate methods of measuring bandwidth, latency, jitter and so on. However as the development of networking technology, traditional manners are becoming insufficient to provide high bandwidth matching the real network, nor accurate statistics characteristic such as self-similarity. In this paper we propose the Network Traffic Simulation platform based on Network Processor (NTS-NP). The platform has achieved: 1) high bandwidth and real-time traffic generation;2) high precision of self-similarity of the flow, which is now considered to be one of the basic characteristics of network traffic. In our platform, Cavium OCTEON CN3860 is chosen as the core in order to gain the ability of high speed packets assembling and transmitting, and direct control of the interface hardware. ON/OFF aggregation model is implemented to generate self-similarity and a discrete-event driven based algorithm is proposed to improve the traditional implementation of the model. We estimate the Hurst parameter of synthetic traffic by R/S statistics method and wavelet estimator. The validation of the platform is also empirically discussed and proved. ©2009 IEEE.

In multicore environment, using multiple threads is a common useful approach to improve application performance. Nevertheless, even in many simple applications, the performance might degrade when the number of threads increases. Users usually impute this phenomenon to the overhead of creation or termination of threads. However, in our observation, the more significant effect is the dispatching of threads. We discuss the problems on using threads, and present a novel User Dispatching Mechanism (UDispatch) that provides controllability in user space to improve application performance. Since user threads cannot directly control system resources, a virtual device is adopted between user space and operating system for portability and efficiency instead of adding new system calls through kernel modification. We also experiment UDispatch through multi-threading multimedia applications. The results show that a skip-line application speeds up to 111.3% and 111.6% on a 4-core machine and an 8-core machine, respectively, and an optimized H.264/AVC decoder speeds up to 18.4% on a 4-core machine. © 2009 IEEE.

Currently, multi-core processors are becoming mainstream due to their superior performance and power characteristics. The problem of shared L2 cache allocation is critical to the effective utilization of multi-core processors. When running under the conventional LRU cache replacement algorithm, the cache is allocated to an application is proportional to the frequency of cache requests. But there is no requirement that the application uses this storage efficiently. Unbalanced cache allocation will happen, and this situation can easily leads to serious problems such as thread starvation and priority inversion, which threatens to processor's utilization ratio and system performance. Aiming at this problem, a cache assignment scheduling algorithm which allocates suitable cache to running threads from fine-grain level is proposed. Experiment results show that the fine-grain cache assignment scheduling algorithm achieves higher performance and fairer cache assignment than that adopting conventional LRU policy. As a result, fine-grain cache assignment scheduling algorithm improves the operating system performance and utilization effectively. © 2009 IEEE.

Event log is the important starting point of any process analysis technique. Existent business process analysis techniques are applied mainly to manual or simulated logs, considering mainly information about control perspective. In this paper, we first analyze the feature of data perspective of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system in manufacturing area, and extend the MXML format to support the log with data perspective information in PLM domain. Subsequently, we introduce an approach of data cleaning to separate the multi-version process information in real-life data set. In the end, we produce real-life log with information about data perspective in PLM system, then, mine the process model from real-life log and evaluate the proposed approach by fitness measuring. © 2008 IEEE.

Recent researches pay more attention to stock tendency prediction, which various machine learning approaches have been proposed. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to discover self-correlation of stock price in virtue of the notion of time series motifs, by viewing stock price sequences as time series. Generally, time series motif is a pattern appearing frequently in a time sequence, useful to forecast the stock temporal tendencies and prices as a reliable part in time series. In the proposed approach, we firstly search for one part of time series motifs using ordinal comparison and k-NN clustering algorithm, and then attempt to discover the correlation between motifs and subsequences connected behind them. Experimental results demonstrate the positive contribution of time series motifs, the acceptable prediction accuracy, and priority of our algorithm.
