A mobile robot that can achieve a stable attitude and locomotion on steep slopes is needed to overcome the problems of slipping and falling for automation of works on steep slopes. The conventional approaches to achieve a stable attitude and locomotion have been researched by adopting tracked wheels and multi-legged mechanisms instead of wheel mechanisms. However, these robots have limitations in term of application angles. A systematic theory for stable attitude and locomotion on steep slopes has not been established. Therefore, research on control strategies for wheeled mobile robots on steep slopes is essential. In this paper, a method to realize a stable attitude and locomotion on a steep slope for the wheeled mobile robot by using propellers for propulsion adhesion is proposed. The proposed robot can generate a large frictional force by pushing its body against the slope with a thrust force. This force prevents the robot from slipping while maneuvering on the slope. The magnitude and the direction of the thrust force is optimized using an appropriate control mechanism influencing the moment of force acting on it to avoid falling and side slipping during locomotion on steep slopes. A simulation experiment was conducted from the perspective of mechanics and dynamics to arrive at an optimal design of the mobile robot. The developed robot has four propellers to generate thrust forces and a rotation axis to control the direction of the generated thrust forces. Evaluation experiments were performed to validate the stability of the robot at a resting position and during lateral locomotion and its ability to climb over a slope. The experimental results confirmed that the proposed robot with propellers realized a steady attitude and locomotion on a slope of up to 90° by controlling the magnitude and the direction of the thrust force.

The most recent discoveries in the biochemical field are highlighting the increasingly important role of lipid droplets(LDs)in several regulatory mechanisms in living *** are dynamic organelles and therefore their complete characterization in terms of number,size,spatial positioning and relative distribution in the cell volume can shed light on the roles played by *** now,fluorescence microscopy and transmission electron microscopy are assessed as the gold standard methods for identifying LDs due to their high sensitivity and ***,such methods generally only provide 2D assays and partial ***,both can be destructive and with low productivity,thus limiting analysis of large cell numbers in a *** we demonstrate for the first time the capability of 3D visualization and the full LD characterization in high-throughput with a tomographic phase-contrast flow-cytometer,by using ovarian cancer cells and monocyte cell lines as models.A strategy for retrieving significant parameters on spatial correlations and LD 3D positioning inside each cell volume is *** information gathered by this new method could allow more in depth understanding and lead to new discoveries on how LDs are correlated to cellular functions.

An e-Commerce company has been using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for several years, but is still constrained in its implementation, this is reflected in the number of issue/change request tickets submitted by users who have not been able to reach ideal conditions. To overcome this problem, we need an appropriate reference model, the ERP system user acceptance model in companies. The study conducted factors that influence the level of acceptance of SAP ERP users in the XYZ group to then determine a model that is able to explain practically the level of ERP system user acceptance, which in turn can produce concrete proposals to increase ERP system user acceptance. Research is quantitative descriptive using factor analysis and regression analysis methods. The research method uses a questionnaire with a total of 107 valid respondents coming from 8 company names under the XYZ group in 6 Southeast Asian countries. The conclusion of the study is that there are 24 indicators and 4 factors that influence user acceptance of the SAP ERP system. These four factors are the low contribution of the ERP system, the quality of ERP systems and data, the development of ERP systems, and also the low quality of ERP system supporters. It is hoped that by optimizing the value of the 4 factors, the XYZ group can increase user acceptance of the SAP ERP system so that the system can provide benefits expected by the company to be competitive advantage.

Current methods of digitally processing communication signals, which are distorted in the computer systems communication channels, are often based on the use of amplitude, phase and spectral characteristics. Correlation methods are also used to ensure immunity. A common disadvantage of these methods is the need for significant computational cost. One of the partial solutions to the described problem may be to use the signals probabilistic characteristics, in particular information entropy. This approach is based on the representation of digital message bits to the corresponding fragments of broadband signals with manipulated information entropy. In fact, signals are formed on the basis of random processes with normal distribution of possible states. The use of passive fragments in such signals can reduce the energy cost of data transmission. When passing through a communication channel, passive fragments are filled with their own channel noise. As a result, the channel's own noise extends the number of possible signal amplitude states and can be used to improve the resolution. According to the results of studies, the dependence of the probability of distortion of the information message binary symbol on the normalized signal/noise ratio is obtained. It is shown that the use of passive fragments improves noise immunity by 3-4 dB within the normalized signal/noise ratio at the input from-5 dB to 14 dB. However, at 14 dB or more, noise immunity worsens. Thus, the main scope of the proposed method can be problematic channels with low signal/noise ratio. © 2019 IEEE.

This study aims to realize a display subjective palatability device to facilitate emotional communication with family or friends at mealtime. Of late, the importance of eating together where family and friends gather and eat together is increasing. However, each member of the family or community eats separated foods at mealtimes. This situation weakens the community bonding because it becomes difficult for people to empathize with the subjective emotion. Therefore, this paper describes a novel device that can help in sharing the subjective palatability of humans who eat together. The proposed device makes humans perceive the subjective palatability of their friends who are eating by using an appropriate color of the LED. In the experiments, we have confirmed that the colors blue and orange expresses the color of subjective palatability, and the experiment of transmitting the subjective palatability of the proposed device using those colors was conducted to evaluate the accuracy and speed of meal communication.

Context: Contemporary software development is typically conducted in dynamic, resource-scarce environments that are prone to the accumulation of technical debt. While this general phenomenon is acknowledged, what remains unknown is how technical debt specifically manifests in and affects software processes, and how the software development techniques employed accommodate or mitigate the presence of this debt. Objectives: We sought to draw on practitioner insights and experiences in order to classify the effects of agile method use on technical debt management, given the popularity and perceived success of agile methods. We explore the breadth of practitioners' knowledge about technical debt;how technical debt is manifested across the software process;and the perceived effects of common agile software development practices and processes on technical debt. In doing so, we address a research gap in technical debt knowledge and provide novel and actionable managerial recommendations. Method: We designed, tested and executed a multi-national survey questionnaire to address our objectives, receiving 184 responses from practitioners in Brazil, Finland, and New Zealand. Results: Our findings indicate that: 1) Practitioners are aware of technical debt, although, there was under utilization of the concept, 2) Technical debt commonly resides in legacy systems, however, concrete instances of technical debt are hard to conceptualize which makes it problematic to manage, 3) Queried agile practices and processes help to reduce technical debt;in particular, techniques that verify and maintain the structure and clarity of implemented artifacts (e.g., Coding standards and Refactoring) positively affect technical debt management. Conclusions: The fact that technical debt instances tend to have characteristics in common means that a systematic approach to its management is feasible. Context: The technical debt (TD) concept inspires the development of useful methods and tools that support TD identification and management. However, there is a lack of evidence on how different TD identification tools could be complementary and, also, how human-based identification compares with them. Objective: To understand how to effectively elicit TD from humans, to investigate several types of tools for TD identification, and to understand the developers’ point of view about TD indicators and items reported by tools. Method: We asked developers to identify TD items from a real software project. We also collected the output of three tools to automatically identify TD and compared the results in terms of their locations in the source code. Then, we collected developers’ opinions on the identification process through a focus group. Results: Aggregation seems to be an appropriate way to combine TD reported by developers. The tools used cannot help in identifying many important TD types, so involving humans is necessary. Developers reported that the tools would help them to identify TD faster or more accurately and that project priorities and current development activities are important to be considered together, along with the values of principal and interest, when deciding to pay off a debt. Conclusion: This work contributes to the TD landscape, which depicts an understanding between different TD types and how they are best discovered. © 2019, The Author(s).

A computational framework for longitudinal medication adherence prediction in breast cancer survivors: A social cognitive theory based approach

Non-adherence to medications is a critical concern since nearly half of patients with chronic illnesses do not follow their prescribed medication regimens, leading to increased mortality, costs, and preventable human distress. Amongst stage 0-3 breast cancer survivors, adherence to long-term adjuvant endocrine therapy (i.e., Tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors) is associated with a significant increase in recurrence-free survival. This work aims to develop multi-scale models of medication adherence to understand the significance of different factors influencing adherence across varying time frames. We introduce a computational framework guided by Social Cognitive Theory for multi-scale (daily and weekly) modeling of longitudinal medication adherence. Our models employ both dynamic medication-taking patterns in the recent past (dynamic factors) as well as less frequently changing factors (static factors) for adherence prediction. Additionally, we assess the significance of various factors in influencing adherence behavior across different time scales. Our models outperform traditional machine learning counterparts in both daily and weekly tasks in terms of both accuracy and specificity. Daily models achieved an accuracy of 87.25% (Precision – 92.04%, Recall – 93.15%, Specificity – 77.50%), and weekly models, an accuracy of 76.04% (Precision – 75.83%, Recall – 85.80%, Specificity – 72.30%). Notably, dynamic past medication-taking patterns prove most valuable for predicting daily adherence, while a combination of dynamic and static factors is significant for macro-level weekly adherence patterns. While our models exhibit strong predictive performance, they are constrained by potential cohort-specific biases, reliance on self-reported adherence data, and a limited understanding of the context around non-adherence. With the augmentation of traffic exponentially, we observe that traffic congestion does not guarantee road safety or enhance the driving experience. In the recent past, Social Internet of Vehicles (SIoV), a social network paradigm permits social relationships among every vehicle in the network or with any road infrastructure to render a radically useful environment. SIoV is beneficial for the drivers, in improving road safety, avoiding mishaps, and providing a friendly-driving experience. In this paper, we propose a traffic scheduling algorithm to gain the maximum throughput for the flow of vehicles at a road intersection with the formation of social relationships among the vehicles and with the Road Side Units (RSUs). The algorithm estimates the flow rate of vehicles for lanes at the intersections exploiting the volume of traffic moving through the given road. A condition matrix is designed for the consistent movement of traffic considering different routes on the road segments. Social relationships are devised on various aspects of travel needs for a safe, agile, and better driving experience. Simulation results illustrate the efficacy of the proposed scheme with high traffic throughput, service rate and reduce the total travelling time, delay time, and average waiting time in comparison with Dynamic Throughput Maximization Framework and Adaptive Traffic Control Algorithm. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.

In snowboard training, it is especially important to learn proper weight transfer and to perceive a gap between the perceived movement and the actual body movement. However, previous training systems don't have sufficient function, and the effectiveness of each feedback on weight transfer, which includes not only the front and back but also left and right has not been reported. In this study, we propose and develop a real-time snowboard training system for a novice using visual and auditory feedback, and confirm its basic performance and effectiveness of each feedback. This system mainly consists of four components: (1) a center of pressure (COP) detection device, (2) a posture estimation device, (3) a visual feedback device, (4) an auditory feedback device. We experimented to confirm the feasibility to enhance motor learning by using the developed system and to evaluate the effectiveness of each feedback on weight transfer, which includes not only the front and back but also left and right. In conclusion, we developed a real-time snowboard training system for a novice using visual and auditory feedback and confirmed that our system could assist the proper weight transfer. Furthermore, in short-term learning, we confirmed that the effectiveness of each feedback, and visual feedback or visual and auditory feedback is the best way to enhance motor learning.
