The carbon footprint of Bitcoin has drawn wide attention, but Bitcoin’s long-term impact on the climate remains uncertain. Here we present a framework to overcome uncertainties in previous estimates and project Bitcoin’s electricity consumption and carbon footprint in the long term. If we assume Bitcoin’s market capitalization grows in line with the one of gold, we find that the annual electricity consumption of Bitcoin may increase from 50 to 400 TWh between 2020 and 2100. The future carbon footprint of Bitcoin strongly depends on the decarbonization pathway of the electricity sector. If the electricity sector achieves carbon neutrality by 2050, Bitcoin’s carbon footprint has peaked already. However, in the business-as-usual scenario, emissions sum up to 2 gigatons until 2100, an amount comparable to 6% of global emissions in 2018. Therefore, we also discuss policy instruments to reduce Bitcoin’s future carbon footprint. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Data sharing, information exchange, knowledge acquisition and health intelligence are the basis of an efficient and effective evidence-based decision-making tool. A decentralized blockchain architecture is a flexible solution that can be adapted to institutional and managerial culture of organizations and services. Blockchain can play a fundamental role in enabling data sharing within a network and, to achieve that, this work defines the high-level resources necessary to apply this technology to Tuberculosis related issues. Thus, relying in open-source tools and in a collaborative development approach, we present a proposal of a blockchain based network, the TB Network, to underpin an initiative of sharing of Tuberculosis scientific, operational and epidemiologic data between several stakeholders across Brazilian cities. © 2019 The authors and IOS Press. As a popular city for global tourists, more than one third of the Phuket GPP depends on the hotel and restaurant sector. The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami caused a serious physical damage to hotels and a high cancellation of bookings in the post disaster period, which, in turn, led to most THB 3 billion drop of the hotel and restaurant sector income in 2005 in Phuket. In addition, many tourism facilities in Phuket suffered bankruptcy or a slump, because they started their business again immediately after the reconstruction phase, while tourists did not really come back. This paper is an initiative study of our research project to evaluate the effects of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami on Hotel Occupancy, with a focus on the speed for the physical reconstruction and tourism market recovery. We collected the physical reconstruction period and the hotel occupancy recovery data of six hotels that located in the Patong Beach of Phuket from 2003 to 2017. Through calculation, the average of damage rate (i.e., unavailability of the rooms in this study) is 55.89%, with an average speed for the physical reconstruction to rebuild the rooms about 6.07% of the overall rooms per month. The quotient of these two values indicates that the reconstruction period is around 9.2 months. However, the average period for reconstruction and tourism recovery is about 20 months. There is an about 11 months' delay between that hotel and resorts have finished the reconstruction and the tourists start to visit Phuket as usual. Therefore, the local government, local tourist authority, and hotel entrepreneurs can consider these findings in order to prepare the recovery plan for tourism industry in the future tsunami. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. A method of estimating location by acoustical signal and microphone array without the detection of direction-of-arrival is proposed. The proposed method consists of the following steps. First, acoustic beacons in the environment emit signals and the localizing target receives the signals with a microphone array. Next, the localizing target calculates the probability distribution of the location by a particle filter. The cross-correlation functions of the microphone array elements correspond to the location and beacon arrangement. Herein, the cross-correlation functions are used as a likelihood function by projecting them to the localizing state space. The localization result is calculated as the weighted sum of the particles based on their likelihoods. The proposed method is tested and evaluated in an indoor environment with four beacons. The result shows that the proposed method can achieve better localization than the previous method.

Recently, the Indonesian government requires auditors, the need for auditors around 40,000 auditors in 2016, currently has only about 10,800 auditors, however, the lack of the auditors impacting the risk of financial loss for the state. Referring to the problem, this experimental research was conducted. The experiment of the research was conducted two times and the audit topic is a compliance audit in the year 2017 and year 2018. The goal of this research is to know, can the stakeholder act as an IT and general compliance auditor? The experiment was conducted by 8 university students in 2017 and 19 university students in 2018, and the supporting tools of audit activities the university student use the smartphone to capture the object as evidence. The experiment results with descriptive method show university students can act as an auditor and found several pieces of evidence that might cause future impact to the institution.

There have been many studies conducted related to Smart City, IT Governance and Big Data. In this study aims to find out how the relationship between the three and how to form a framework to explain it. The methodology used is qualitative by looking for some literature on smart city framework, IT Governance framework, and a Big Data framework. From these results, an overall picture of the relationship between the three is concluded, where Big Data has a role in IT Governance. and also the relationship of IT Governance to the realization of Smart City. And the final results of this study produce a framework to explain the relationship between Smart City, IT Governance and Big Data.

The objective of this study is to create a services design of E-Government system that can help Indonesian government to resolve some problems such as diversity platform and application. It causes the island applications that can make decision support processes is not well happen. In this study, we use literature review as an approach to discuss the phenomenon. It is performed by identifying, evaluating, and combining information from several other studies which relevant with this study's research questions. We use services oriented analysis and design approach to discussing the phenomenon. The ability of Service-oriented Architecture to connect multiple services between diversity systems and it can help the enterprise application travelling in Indonesian government. The case in this study is travelling system in Indonesia Government. The results in this study are the conceptual services for Travelling System using SOA approach and ESB Technology. It consists of several services and business services which is can be integrated among of them.

In this paper, we described a criterion of estimating the quality of time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) estimation with a moving microphone array. The microphone array was supposed to receive a known signal from an acoustic beacon which transmitted a binary code with binary phase shift keying (BPSK). The movement of the microphone array may cause two kinds of error on the TDOA estimation;physical change of TDOA caused by the movement, and apparent change caused by the lower correlation values of Doppler-shifted signals. For evaluating the latter error, we employed the peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of the cross correlation function. The Doppler effect on TDOA error were evaluated with a computer simulation. The microphone array was moved at -2 to 2 m/s, covering the velocity range of indoor mobile robot. Besides the velocity, following three parameters of the sound were investigated. The types of the code for evaluation were chosen as M-, Gold and Kasami sequences, carrier frequencies were 0-40 kHz, and chip rates of the binary code were 0.5 - 20 kHz. As the results, it was confirmed that if PAPR is lower than a certain value, 40 in this simulation, the peak detection of the cross correlation is difficult and it results in high and unpredictable TDOA errors. Higher chip rates and lower carrier frequencies showed better resilience against the Doppler effect. The proposed criterion may infer the maximum velocities at which TDOA can be estimated without any measure against the Doppler effect for realistic parameters. This criterion would contribute to the on-line evaluation of the quality of TDOA, which may be beneficial for estimating sound direction of arrival. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
