Kepler's observation of comet tails initiated the research on the radiation pressure of celestial objects and 250 years later they found new incarnation after the Maxwell's equations were formulated to describe a plethora of light-matter coupling phenomena. Further, quantum mechanics gave birth to the photon drag effect. Here, we develop a microscopic theory of this effect which can occur in a general system containing Bose-Einstein–condensed particles, which possess an internal structure of quantum states. By analyzing the response of the system to an external electromagnetic field we find that such a drag results in a flux of particles constituting both the condensate and the excited states. We show that in the presence of the condensed phase, the response of the system acquires steplike behavior as a function of the electromagnetic field frequency with the elementary step determined by the internal energy structure of the particles.

In this paper, signals for acoustic beacons with M sequence are evaluated with various parameters for self-localization of mobile robot. The effect of (i) baud rate, (ii) carrier frequency and (iii) order of M sequence on DOA estimation error and localization error are evaluated by computer simulation. As a result, localization is possible with same class or more precision compared to the result from sound beacon with three chirp signals within 5 kHz-18 kHz by choosing the appropriate parameters, which are (i)baud rate is more than around 8 kHz and (ii)carrier frequency is 10 kHz. Particularly, (i) baud rate and (ii) carrier frequency have influence on the localization error. However, the localization error do not change into even a further baud rate in this condition if baud rate is higher than carrier frequency. In this simulation, no influence is confirmed from (iii)order of M sequence. The result indicates that M sequence can be used as signal of acoustic beacons instead of chirp, which occupies frequency band. © 2016 IEEE.

Basically, the concept of a Z-number relates to the issue of reliability of information. Existing studies on operations over Z-numbers are based on classical interval and fuzzy arithmetic. Operation over a set of Z-numbers produces a Z-number with a very lengthy supports of its components. This result some times is practically unsuitable for users. The second limitation here is that some fundamental properties of operations over real numbers are lost. All the existing works on computation of Z-numbers are characterized by increasing of entropy. In particular, these approaches are not able to account for informativeness of computation results. An importance of informativeness of Z-numbers was first mentioned by Zadeh. This paper describes some preliminary investigations on informativeness of Z-number calculus by using concept of specifity and concept of horizontal membership functions. We propose a strategy for optimizing informativeness of Z-number operations with desired degree of specificity. Validity of the proposed approach is illustrated in an examples.

Recent advances in high-throughput genomic technologies coupled with exponential increases in computer processing and memory have allowed us to interrogate the complex aberrant molecular underpinnings of human disease from a genome-wide perspective. While the deluge of genomic information is expected to increase, a bottleneck in conventional high-performance computing is rapidly approaching. Inspired in part by recent advances in physical quantum processors, we evaluated several unconventional machine learning (ML) strategies on actual human tumor data;namely "Ising-type" methods whose objective function is formulated identically to simulated annealing and quantum annealing, as well as a restricted Boltzmann machine. Here we show for the first time the efficacy of multiple Ising-type ML algorithms for classification of high-dimensional, multi-omics human cancer data from the Cancer Genome Atlas. To assess algorithm performance, we compared these classifiers to a variety of standard ML methods. Our results indicate the feasibility of using Ising-type ML to provide competitive classification of human cancer types and associated molecular subtypes and superior performance with smaller training datasets, thus providing compelling empirical evidence for the potential future application of unconventional computing approaches in the biomedical sciences. © 2019, CC BY.

A transponder-based positioning method using audible sounds for a large-scale area positioning has been proposed by the authors. The proposed method has two characteristics; it employs audible sounds instead of ultrasounds to measure long distance by using audible sounds, and it achieves positioning without clock synchronization among devices which is required additional equipment such as radio wave. However, positioning of the moving object (terminal) is still challenging because the proposed method requires longer measurement time than other methods since it measures the round-trip time of flight (TOF) among the terminal and the anchors (transponders). In this paper, we evaluated the effect of the terminal movement on positioning in simulations and experiments. From simulations and experimental results, it was found that the effect of Doppler and the terminal movement cause random error and offset in TOF/distance, respectively. Consequently, it was found that our proposed method is sensitive to the terminal movement.

In recent years Z-number concept naturally arise in the areas of control decision making, forecasting, modeling of complex systems and others. Unfortunately up to day there are no effective software of Z-arithmetic is existence. In this paper for first time we present software for Z-arithmetic. Long time exploration of this software shows that the suggested software satisfies all requirements of software quality standards ISO 9126.
