We investigate the combinatorial effect of evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) with interactive evolutionary computation (IEC). The purposes and combination ways of several presented EMO and IEC researches are different. We evaluated seven combination ways of four EMO objectives given by fitness functions and one IEC objective given by a pseudo-IEC user outputting stable evaluation regardless repeated experiments in our previous experiments. In this paper, we extend experimental conditions to 39 and evaluate them: 3 pseudo-users X 13 combination ways of 4 + 1 objectives. We also consider features of this system.

Many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Europe are interested in finding new methods of training and workplace learning. technology-enhanced practices of peer-to-peer learning may offer various new possibilities for SMEs. In this study we consider emerging technologies for informal learning in construction work. These technologies include wearable computing, invisible and ambient computing, augmented reality and novel interaction technologies. Three preliminary scenarios presented in this paper demonstrate how these technologies may be used. These scenarios have been developed, with a focus on the use of technology within a community supporting peer-to-peer learning, that may negate some of the social concerns of wearable and ubiquitous technologies. The inclusion of the construction workers in the design process, combined with smart design, is expected to find acceptable and fair solutions. It remains to be seen whether construction industry work communities will support this assertion.

Due to the continuous shrinking of the transistor sizes which is strongly driven by Moore's law, reliability becomes a dominant design challenge for embedded systems. Reliability problems arise from permanent errors due to manufacturing, process variations, aging as well as soft errors. As a result, the hardware will consist of unreliable components and hence, the development of embedded systems has to change fundamentally. Therefore, we propose a dependability-aware design approach for hardware systems through integrating dependability into a state-of-the-art system-level design language. Our approach is based on SystemC and extends the Program State Machine model to explicitly observe, diagnose, and compensate faulty behavior. Different compensation mechanisms like run-time reconfiguration or mechanisms for error propagation can be used by the designer during refinement. They are controlled by a new exception-like mechanism. Furthermore, our approach aims to integrate functional verification as well as dependability verification with respect to given fault models. © 2011 IEEE.

Initial results of an Independent Research and Development effort examined space vehicle technology-mass-cost interdependencies at the zeroth level by introducing a method for capturing technology-based design relationships to mass and power along with development costs. Launch mass and cost trends across a large tradespace can now be established in a matter of hours, greatly reducing the time needed to identify candidate solutions for further exploration in subsequent concurrent engineering studies.© 2011 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.

The first robotic copies of real humans have become available. They enable their users to be physically present in multiple locations at the same time. This study investigates what influence the embodiment of an agent has on its persuasiveness and its perceived personality. Is a robotic copy as persuasive as its human counterpart? Does it have the same personality? We performed an experiment in which the embodiment of the agent was the independent variable and the persuasiveness and perceived personality were the dependent measurement. The persuasive agent advertised a Bluetooth headset. The results show that an android is found to be as persuasive as a real human or a video recording of a real human. The personality of the participant had a considerable influence on the measurements. Participants that were more open to new experiences rated the persuasive agent lower on agreeableness and extroversion. They were also more willing to spend money on the advertised product.

Workplaces are changing as new technologies are introduced in an effort to improve efficiency and increase business turnover. Although there has been an explosion of mobile technologies and devices in recent time, very few in situ studies of the adoption of these technologies have been undertaken. This paper reports on the results of a longitudinal case study of a business over a six year period as a knowledge worker shifted from Australia to the USA and then to England. It outlines how the company moved from paper based systems to an online system and finally to a mobile commerce system. The authors have used Mobile Informatics to analyze the use of mobile devices in particular settings and low end disruption theory to assist in the interpretation of the data. © 2007 IEEE.
