The article details the creation of the TomatoEventOntology, encompassing events associated with tomato cultivation. These events are categorized into two groups: domain events, which signify the various stages tomatoes undergo during their growth, and emergency events, which denote critical issues that could potentially reduce yields if left unattended. The TomatoEventOntology is designed to seamlessly integrate with ZEMELA, an intelligent agricultural ecosystem. It incorporates intelligent components that utilize the ontology to warn farmers about pertinent events in tomato cultivation, thereby enhancing agricultural efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

Telecom carriers have announced new content services by making a partnership with content providers and offered popular video streaming to customers. Via the integration with edge networks, telecom carriers can procure various contents from content providers and place them on edge servers proximate to end users to serve real-time requests with high bandwidth and ultra-low latency. Nevertheless, it is challenging to consider the content procurement, placement, and services jointly due to the user preference, user distribution, storage capacity of edge server, economic costs, etc. Telecom carriers would like to balance the procuring, placing, and transfer costs. To address this problem, the paper formulates an optimization problem and then proposes an approximation algorithm. Finally, the simulation results manifest that our algorithm outperforms other baselines. © 2024 IEEE.

Today's agricultural sector is characterized by an important role of accurate mapping and monitoring of agriculture with the help of satellite imagery, which allows to optimize the use of resources, to plan crop areas and to forecast productivity. Classification of satellite images with unbalanced sample distribution is a critical problem in this regard. Traditional machine learning algorithms in particular have limitations in dealing with sample imbalance. In this paper, we proposed convolution neural networks for semantic segmentation, where sample imbalance is considered based on a particular loss function coupled with data augmentation. To illustrate our method, we use Sentinel-2 remote sensing (RS) images covering a number of regions in Ukraine, and then we create an image dataset of the region and for training and testing make data augmentation. The models with different architectural features were investigated. The results demonstrate that the proposed CNN has a higher classification accuracy than the ones discussed in the paper: the classification accuracy on the test dataset reached 96.7% with intersection-over-union values of up to 89.7%. This opens the way for further research in the direction of refining algorithms for classify satellite data with an imbalanced class structure. © Author(s) 2024.

An appealing alternative towards dealing with mobility and coverage challenges in future wireless networks, are hybrid satellite-terrestrial networks (HSTNs). The combination of network coding (NC) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) techniques, have recently gained popularity due to their performance gains in improving the quality of a wireless transmission and exploiting the accessible spectrum. This paper introduces a joint NOMA-NC approach, integrated to an HSTN comprising a satellite, a terrestrial base station (BS), and multiple ground-based mobile terminals (MTs). The suggested method facilitates a cluster of end-users to be concurrently served through NOMA from a satellite using optimal power allocation, whereas the BS utilizes random linear NC to augment the MTs' reception in the event of errors. The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methodology in improving system sum throughput, demonstrating substantial enhancements compared with both OMA with NC, and standalone NOMA and OMA approaches. The resilience of the suggested method is proved, improving the sum throughput even at low power transmissions and in the worst case channel conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

The automation of processes in greenhouses provides a significant advantage to the agricultural sector. Due to the rapid growth of the population, increasing demand for food and labor shortage make the autonomous monitoring and management of agricultural work more important. Capsicum is a largely consumed vegetable in South Asia, which can be efficiently grown in greenhouses. Although there are many capsicum farms, they lack quality and efficient production to match the increasing demand. This paper proposes a robotic system for use in capsicum greenhouses that can navigate and monitor the plants to identify diseases, track the yield, and take remediation actions. The robot navigates to each plant in the greenhouse autonomously by using the SLAM approach with the use of laser range sensor data. The 4 DoF robotic arm of the robot has a camera and a sprayer attached to its end to investigate plants and spray remedies to diseased plants. The robotic arm moves around the plant to capture the images to detect deceases and count the pods to estimate the yield. The sprayer of the robot sprays remedies precisely to targeted plants to control pests and diseases. The system was successfully implemented and tested with the proposed functions. © 2023 IEEE.

Most of the recent works on Human Gesture Recognition (HGR) using motion data rely on gathering a dataset, that faces two major challenges: a) the datasets are originally stored on the smart devices at the end-users, and gathering them in one place is not feasible due to communication limitations, and b) clients are reluctant to share their private data with a central server due to privacy concerns. In this paper, we address these issues and propose a privacy-preserving framework based on Federated Learning (FL) for HGR using motion data. Furthermore, we consider data heterogeneity which have destructive effects on the performance of the global model. Accordingly, we propose a communication and computation-efficient client selection method, mitigating the impact of data heterogeneity in the FL process. In the proposed framework, clients are not requested to share sensitive information about their local datasets with the edge server. Simulation results show that the proposed MoFLeuR algorithm improves the performance of the global model in the presence of different degrees of data heterogeneity, and it outperforms the baseline algorithms in terms of different metrics, namely accuracy, convergence speed, and communication and computation efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of autonomous vehicle technologies and urban planning, the development of precise motion planning algorithms for autonomous parking has emerged as a critical research endeavor. This paper undertakes a comprehensive exploration of this vital area, with a specific focus on low-speed parking maneuvers. It meticulously analyzes and implements three prominent motion planning algorithms - Hybrid A-star, Reeds and Shepp, and Rapidly-exploring random tree star (RRT) - in known environments. Through a systematic evaluation conducted via simulations, this research assesses the distinct strengths and limitations of each algorithm across a spectrum of parking scenarios. Hybrid A-star's capacity to navigate intricate situations replete with obstacles, the proficiency of Reeds and Shepp in obstacle-free environments, and the efficient parking possibility exploration by RRT are intricately examined. These insights not only highlight the unique merits of each algorithm but also shed light on their potential applications in self-parking systems. The integration of these advanced algorithms into autonomous parking systems promises to significantly enhance parking efficiency and alleviate urban congestion, thereby making substantial contributions to the field of urban parking management. This study, thus, offers valuable academic insights into the practical implementation of motion planning algorithms for autonomous parking, addressing pertinent challenges and opportunities in this context. © 2023 IEEE.

Given the increasing significance of promoting cybersecurity awareness within K-12 educational settings, it becomes imperative to provide teachers with appropriate professional development. This paper reports on a current workshop that aimed to assess the viability of cybersecurity online modules developed by researchers and to deliver cybersecurity training to high school STEM educators. The workshop sought to evaluate the level of cybersecurity awareness among teachers and enhance their comprehension of its importance. This evaluation was conducted through scales devised by researchers, aligned with standards set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the computer Science Teachers Association. The training also aimed to fortify teachers' grasp of cybersecurity content, encompassing relevant standards, analysis of cyber threats, establishment of secure online environments, and other pivotal cybersecurity concepts. Acknowledging the comprehensive nature and adaptability of cybersecurity education, the workshop endeavored to distill essential ideas and recommended practices tailored for K-12 teachers. In this document, we outline the workshop's structure, in addition to presenting the initial survey and assessment outcomes. The findings demonstrate an enhancement in teachers' awareness of cybersecurity and affirm the social significance of their learning experiences, thereby equipping them for the forthcoming academic year. © 2024 IEEE.

Attribute-Based Encryption (ABE) with non-monotonic access policies provides fine-grained access control for widespread applications like Cloud-assisted HealthIoT systems. In this context, multi-authority ABE with untrusted authorities eliminates the need for a trusted authority, but ensuring user's identity and attributes-set privacy against these authorities remains a significant challenge. This paper proposes a new, efficient multi-authority ABE approach that preserves user's identity privacy and attributes-set privacy, and is secure against collusion attack. Also, the proposed approach provides non-monotonic access policies, which supports positive and negative constraints using NOT operation as well as AND and OR operations. © 2023 IEEE.

The effectiveness of utilizing theoretical- numerical transformations in Galois code systems has been substantiated based on an analysis of known methods of data transformation and digital processing. The drawbacks of dynamic execution of arithmetic operations in binary codes are identified, along with methods for eliminating them during Galois encoding, resulting in increased digital processing speed. The research utilized recursion theory, cyclic coding methods, discrete transformations, and digital automata. A novel method for parallel execution of arithmetic operations in Galois fields, which eliminates inter-digit transitions, has been proposed. Mathematical models for executing arithmetic operations have been developed, accompanied by a structural diagram and an explanation of the principles behind arithmetic operations in Galois codes. A comparison was made between known and proposed methods, revealing that the proposed method reduces conversion time by 6 to 25%. The use of recursive data coding methods with Galois codes has enhanced information exchange security while improving data processing speed and efficiency. The development of data processing methods in Galois field, along with the implementation of Galois arithmetic processors, hinges on ensuring high computational environment homogeneity. This, in turn, simplifies their implementation in microelectronic performance, increases operational reliability, and reduces the cost of implementing and operating information processing systems. © 2023 IEEE.
