The time needed to apply a hierarchical clustering algorithm is most often dominated by the number of computations of a pairwise dissimilarity measure. Such a constraint, for larger data sets, puts at a disadvantage the use of all the classical linkage criteria but the single linkage one. However, it is known that the single linkage clustering algorithm is very sensitive to outliers, produces highly skewed dendrograms, and therefore usually does not reflect the true underlying data structure - unless the clusters are well-separated. To overcome its limitations, we propose a new hierarchical clustering linkage criterion called Genie. Namely, our algorithm links two clusters in such a way that a chosen economic inequity measure (e.g., the Gini- or Bonferroni-index) of the cluster sizes does not increase drastically above a given threshold. The presented benchmarks indicate a high practical usefulness of the introduced method: it most often outperforms the Ward or average linkage in terms of the clustering quality while retaining the single linkage speed. The Genie algorithm is easily parallelizable and thus may be run on multiple threads to speed up its execution further on. Its memory overhead is small: there is no need to precompute the complete distance matrix to perform the computations in order to obtain a desired clustering. It can be applied on arbitrary spaces equipped with a dissimilarity measure, e.g., on real vectors, DNA or protein sequences, images, rankings, informetric data, etc. A reference implementation of the algorithm has been included in the open source genie package for R. Emerging heart-on-a-chip platforms are promising approaches to establish cardiac cell/tissue models in vitro for research on cardiac physiology,disease modeling and drug cardiotoxicity as well as for therapeutic *** still exist in obtaining the complete capability of in situ sensing to fully evaluate the complex functional properties of cardiac cell/tissue *** to contractile strength(contractility)and beating regularity(rhythm)are particularly important to generate accurate,predictive *** new platforms and technologies to assess the contractile functions of in vitro cardiac models is essential to provide information on cell/tissue physiologies,drug-induced inotropic responses,and the mechanisms of cardiac *** this review,we discuss recent advances in biosensing platforms for the measurement of contractile functions of in vitro cardiac models,including single cardiomyocytes,2D monolayers of cardiomyocytes,and 3D cardiac *** characteristics and performance of current platforms are reviewed in terms of sensing principles,measured parameters,performance,cell sources,cell/tissue model configurations,advantages,and *** addition,we highlight applications of these platforms and relevant discoveries in fundamental investigations,drug testing,and disease ***,challenges and future outlooks of heart-on-a-chip platforms for in vitro measurement of cardiac functional properties are discussed.

Significant progress has been made in the development of an edge computing system for the fusion, representation, and visualization of dual-sensor data for obstacle avoidance control of mobile robots. This involves the use of an error-filtering covariance and averaging algorithm to logically fuse distance measurements from a pair of infrared and ultrasonic sensors, which was instrumented into a robot and used to generate radar visuals to track the proximity of ambient obstacles within 180 degrees spanning ahead of the robot. Hands-on experiments were performed to evaluate the performance and applicability of the system in real-time. The results show that the developed system is viable and robust. In line with the emerging field of edge computing, this work is an efficient, portable, and cost-effective approach to developing mobile robotic systems.

Phased arrays are crucial in various technologies, such as radar and wireless communications, due to their ability to precisely control and steer electromagnetic waves. This precise control improves signal processing and enhances imaging performance. However, extending phased arrays to the terahertz (THz) frequency range has proven challenging, especially for high-frequency operation, broadband performance, two-dimensional (2D) phase control with large antenna arrays, and strong phase modulation. Here, we introduce a photonic platform to realize a THz phased array that bypasses the above challenges. Our method employs 2D phase coding with 2-bit across a broad THz frequency range from 0.8 to 1.4 THz. The core of our design is a pixelated nonlinear Pancharatnam-Berry metasurface driven by a spatially modulated femtosecond laser, allowing precise phase control of THz signals. We showcase the effectiveness of our method through four proof-of-concept applications: single beamforming, dual beamforming, imaging and vortex beam generation. The realized photonic platform provides a promising pathway for developing broadband phased arrays in the THz regime. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This article aims to compare forecasting techniques with machine learning techniques for predicting the number of people injured in road accidents using data from the Injury information Collaboration Center, Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health Outpatient Files (OPD) spanning the years 2018 to 2022. The four machine-learning techniques examined in this study include Decision Tree Regression, Random Forest Regression, Support Vector Regression, and Multiple Linear Regression. The data analysis was performed using the R programming language. The results revealed that the Decision Tree Regression technique yielded the most accurate predictions for the number of road traffic injuries, as evidenced by its lowest values of MAE, MSE, and RMSE.

Fingerprint-based positioning is popular and applicable for Internet of Things (IoT) applications to offer seamless, intelligent and adaptive location-aware services for IoT devices. However, it takes time and cost to build the radio-map. This paper proposed deep convolutional Generative adversarial nets (DCGANs) to minimize the site survey time and cost, and to mitigate signal fluctuations. The radio-map was designed for receiving radio signals from detectable wireless local area network (WLAN) and cellular networks in scalable environments. The proposed fingerprinting-based positioning is a sequential combination of the hybrid support vector machine and long short-term memory algorithms. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method achieves a promising and reasonable positioning performance for IoT devices in scalable wireless environments. © 2020 IEEE.

Dataset Weighting Features Using Gain Ratio To Improve Method Accuracy Naïve Bayesian Classification

The Naïve Bayes method is proven to have a high speed when applied to large datasets, but the Naïve Bayes method has weaknesses when selecting attributes because Naïve Bayes is a statistical classification method that is only based on the Bayes theorem so that it can only be used to predict the probability of the class membership of a class independently. Independent without being able to do the selection of attributes that have a high correlation and correlation between one attribute with other attributes so that it can affect the value of accuracy. Naïve Bayesian Weight has been able to provide better accuracy than conventional Naïve Bayesian. Where an increase in the highest accuracy value obtained from the Water Quality dataset is equal to 88.57% in the Weight Naïve Bayesian classification model, while the lowest accuracy value is obtained from the Haberman dataset which is 78.95% in the conventional Naïve Bayesian classification model. The increase in accuracy of the Weight Naïve Bayesian classification model in the Water Quality dataset is 2.9%. While the increase in accuracy value in the Haberman dataset is 1.8%. If done the average accuracy of each dataset using the Weight Naïve Bayesian classification model is 2.35%. Based on the testing that has been done on all test data, it can be said that the Weight Naïve Bayesian classification model can provide better accuracy values than those produced by the conventional Naïve Bayesian classification model.
