Support Vector Regression (SVR) is often used in forecasting. Adjustment of parameters in the SVR affects the results of forecasting. This study aims to analyze the SVR method that is optimized using Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO), hereinafter referred to as HHO-SVR. The HHO-SVR was evaluated using five benchmark datasets to determine the performance of this method. The HHO process is also compared based on the type of kernel and other metaheuristic algorithms. The results showed that the HHO-SVR has almost the same performance as other methods but is less efficient in terms of time. In addition, the type of kernel also affects the process and results.

Deployment of scarce resources is a critical issue for especially large-scale outbreaks of infectious diseases. During the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare providers are facing the challenges of significant shortages of limited resources such as testing, personal protective equipment (PPE), hospital beds, ICU s, medications and ventilators because of the dramatic increase in the number of patients. Therefore, in this study, we develop “a general smart resource allocation advisor in the cloud” that determines the smart allocation of the scarce resources with respect to the pandemic severity level, from low to very severe, to mitigate and control the spread of the disease. Portfolio model of cost-benefit analysis is used to identify the low cost-high benefit allocations of the resources to focus on more and high cost-low benefit allocations to avoid as well. Therefore, this model provides healthcare providers useful insights about their resource allocations to be more responsive to their patients and control the transmission of the virus.

In this study, we used a compound vision card consisting of Howell's and Thorington's vision card on both sides, and placed a prism or a Maddox 's lens in the left eye of the subjects to establish the subjective measurement technique of heterophoria. When a prism with 6 prism diopters and the base upward was placed in front of the left eye of the subject to look at the front of the compound vision card at 45 cm, it was observed that the Howell vision card was separated into two vision cards. After confirming the relative position of the point of the upper and lower vision cards, the subject move the paddle on the measuring device to make the paddle overlap the point of the upper vision card, judge the left and right directions of the point and read number of the horizontal base line, and then measure the line of sight deviation of the near horizontal heterophoria. In this study, 5 subjects with normal vision were tested with von Graefe, Howell and This innovative device for near distance horizontal esotropia. The test results showed that 85% of the subjects were exotropia, and the difference of the three measurements was within one prism diopter (±1Δ). It is proved that the reliability of the measuring device is excellent. © 2021 IEEE.

Enhancing urban climate resilience: A holistic evaluation of urban forest disservices in the aftermath of typhoons

Ecosystem services associated with urban forests have gained increasing attention, but there has been a relative lack of focus on the corresponding ecosystem disservices, including financial burdens, air pollution, allergens, pests, diseases, and safety concerns. Situated in the northwest Pacific Ocean, Taiwan faces the highest global number of tropical cyclones. Typhoons significantly damage the urban forest ecosystem, especially impacting peripheral residents. Consequently, comprehensive evaluation of urban forest-related policies should also consider disservices induced by natural disasters. Understanding public perspectives on urban forests is crucial for affirming public support, and outcomes of this study can guide government agencies in crafting urban forest planning policies, minimizing risks and casualties during natural disasters. Survey results from Taichung City residents (the second-largest city in Taiwan), highlight key urban forest benefits: shade, picturesque scenery, and stress relief. Disruptions perceived include increased maintenance costs, hazards from broken branches, trunks, and road damage from tree roots. Three prominent ecosystem disservices from natural disasters are identified: power failures, casualties, and property losses from falling branches, and increased cleaning costs. To mitigate disservices and enhance urban forest resilience, recommendations include augmenting the budget for removing unhealthy urban forests, planting structurally stable ones, reinforcing underground cables, and increasing pruning budgets. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Because of the learning behaviors of learners include multiple characteristics and tendencies and the behaviors with complex and tangled associations, in this study, ISM with Fuzzy MICMAC and Fuzzy DEMATEL methods (approach) were applied. Analyze and discuss the dimensions and criteria of applying information technology to assist music teaching to influence learners' learning behaviors and to clarify the relationship between learning behaviors and to provide educational institutions and schools to introduce or improve the integration of information technology into music teaching of the teaching strategies and curriculum design and planning to trigger learners' learning behavior. Studies show that in terms of dimension, the integration of information technology into music teaching will motivate learners in areas such as online learning attitudes, music learning motivation, and learning engagement, and self-directed learning. The self-directed learning factor is an important key to the dimension of learning behavior;among these criterions, online teaching of musical performance, musical instrument teaching, and music theory will influence about 23 criteria of the learners' learning behavior, and computer/smart-phone preferences, online learning, computer/smart-phone, and computer and network confidence are the three keys to learning behavior criterion, therefore, in addition to establishing a good music teaching environment, strengthening learners' self-directed learning and online learning attitudes are important learning guidelines. © 2020 ACM.

Over the past 2 to 3 decades,Chinese forests are estimated to act as a large carbon sink,yet the magnitude and spatial patterns of this sink differ considerably among *** 3 microwave(L-and X-band vegetation optical depth[VOD])and 3 optical(normalized difference vegetation index,leaf area index,and tree cover)remote-sensing vegetation products,this study compared the estimated live woody aboveground biomass carbon(AGC)dynamics over China between 2013 and *** results showed that tree cover has the highest spatial consistency with 3 published AGC maps(mean correlation value R=0.84),followed by L-VOD(R=0.83),which outperform the other *** AGC estimation model was proposed to combine all indices to estimate the annual AGC dynamics in China during 2013 to *** performance of the AGC estimation model was good(root mean square error=0.05 Pg C and R^(2)=0.90 with a mean relative uncertainty of 9.8% at pixel scale[0.25°]).Results of the AGC estimation model showed that carbon uptake by the forests in China was about+0.17 Pg C year^(-1) from 2013 to *** the regional level,provinces in southwest China including Guizhou(+22.35 Tg C year^(-1)),Sichuan(+14.49 Tg C year^(-1)),and Hunan(+11.42 Tg C year^(-1))provinces had the highest carbon sink rates during 2013 to *** of the carbon-sink regions have been afforested recently,implying that afforestation and ecological engineering projects have been effective means for carbon sequestration in these regions.

This study delves into the perception of homeowners in the Philippines regarding the utilization of Residential Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Systems (RSPVS), focusing on their intention to adopt this renewable energy technology. The research is driven by the advantageous conditions in the Philippines, including high irradiance levels, supportive solar PV policies, and decreasing system costs. Understanding prosumers' (producers and consumers) perspectives is crucial to accelerating the adoption of RSPVS, which can significantly contribute to decentralizing and greening the electrical production landscape in the country. Building on previous studies, which highlight a keen interest in solar technology among homeowners but cite high installation costs and a lack of understanding as major barriers, this research aims to shed light on the factors influencing prosumers' intentions to use RSPVS. Employing a theoretical framework combining the technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of technology (UTAUT), and integrating Technophilia and Perceived Risk as supplementary constructs, this study seeks to uncover the drivers and inhibitors of RSPVS adoption. The study employs an online questionnaire distributed in key cities where Residential RSPVS is available, with a sample size of 239 respondents. The data collected are analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine the relationships between variables and to test the hypothesized model. The results indicate that factors such as Technophilia, Price Value, and Social Influence are significant determinants of prosumers' intent to adopt RSPVS. Notably, Technophilia, reflecting enthusiasm for new technology, emerged as a key factor, suggesting that prosumers are motivated by the allure of solar energy. Transformative artificially intelligent tools, such as ChatGPT, designed to generate sophisticated text indistinguishable from that produced by a human, are applicable across a wide range of contexts. The technology presents opportunities as well as, often ethical and legal, challenges, and has the potential for both positive and negative impacts for organisations, society, and individuals. Offering multi-disciplinary insight into some of these, this article brings together 43 contributions from experts in fields such as computer science, marketing, information systems, education, policy, hospitality and tourism, management, publishing, and nursing. The contributors acknowledge ChatGPT's capabilities to enhance productivity and suggest that it is likely to offer significant gains in the banking, hospitality and tourism, and information technology industries, and enhance business activities, such as management and marketing. Nevertheless, they also consider its limitations, disruptions to practices, threats to privacy and security, and consequences of biases, misuse, and misinformation. However, opinion is split on whether ChatGPT's use should be restricted or legislated. Drawing on these contributions, the article identifies questions requiring further research across three thematic areas: knowledge, transparency, and ethics;digital transformation of organisations and societies;and teaching, learning, and scholarly research. The avenues for further research include: identifying skills, resources, and capabilities needed to handle generative AI;examining biases of generative AI attributable to training datasets and processes;exploring business and societal contexts best suited for generative AI implementation;determining optimal combinations of human and generative AI for various tasks;identifying ways to assess accuracy of text produced by generative AI;and uncovering the ethical and legal issues in using generative AI across different contexts. © 2023 The Authors

In this quantitative study, we examined the awareness of mobile health (mHealth) applications among Taiwan’s university students, particularly the government-operated My Health Bank application. The My Health Bank application allows users to access their personal health information simply through their smartphone’s sensor-assisted facial recognition camera and fingerprint sensor. Whether these university students might help older adults to use this application if they perceive it to be helpful was also explored. Two instruments were used in this study, namely, the Perceptions toward My Health Bank (PMHB) and Geriatric Attitudes Scale (GAS). Two hundred twenty-five (225) university students from the Departments of Senior Citizen Service management (n = 136) and Nursing (n = 89) at two universities participated in this study. The findings indicated low adoption of My Health Bank and related mHealth applications among students even though they had high adoption rates of smartphones. However, they perceived that the functions of this application are useful and should be promoted to older adults. Thus, building a basic foundation of mHealth and related technology courses is recommended to assist healthcare students in being well-prepared for working with older adults in the digital society. © MYU K.K.
