Teachers in a traditional video/audio design course usually divide students into small groups and ask every group doing a short film as semester project. The semester grades are given by teachers according to the project quality and how well that students apply the knowledge they had learned from the classes. This paper describes that how the internet technology can be applied to such traditional video/audio design course to make students learning better. The experiment involves two classes. Students in different classes do not know each others, since these two classes belong to the day-school and night-school respectively. Therefore, these two classes are seen as the Experiment Group (EG) and Traditional Group (TG) for proving the differences of the learning effects between those students (EG students) whose course is internet technology-enhanced and those students (TG students) whose course is classical one.

Our highly digitized world brings us into contact with networked information systems with the potential to help us locate information quickly and easily at the touch of a button. But it is far from easy to quickly find the exact information we need. Every new resource added increases the time needed to locate the right information. The increasing scale of resource collections continues to drive the need for innovative methods of organizing and providing access to the information within these collections (Bates, 1999 ). This panel will discuss the prospect of designing for uncertainty - that is creating information systems based on the premise that (in certain situations) uncertainty can be a powerful mediating strategy for people.

Fundamental experiments were carried out in a wave flume on internal solitary wave (ISW) of depression-type propagating over a submerged ridge. The seabed ridge included either triangular or semicircular shape - regarded as topographic obstacles. Influenced by the submarine ridge, the transmitted waves were found to always consist of a leading pulse (a solitary wave) followed by a dispersive wave train. The wave profile propagating over a triangular ridge was similar to that caused by a semicircular obstacle. Apparently, the smooth face of a semicircular ridge produced time lag of wave propagation. From experimental results available, the reduction in wave energy induced by a semicircular ridge was larger than that by a triangular one. The events of wave distortion, strong breaking, internal bolus, and stratification mixing happened in case that the crest of an ISW was great enough to interact with the topographic obstacle. The reduction in wave energy was induced by strong breaking, and it depended on the ridge height rather than the geometric shape of the ridge.
Remote experimentation is the process of conducting real lab experiments without being physically in contact with lab devices. Recently, the development of Internet technologies fostered the spread of online laborator...

This special issue includes seven articles that make significant contribution to the literature pertaining to knowledge and public policy around Free, Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS). Focusing on questions in two themes (i) motivation and organization and (ii) public policy, the articles in this volume develop new analytic models and report on new empirical findings, as an important step in bridging the wide gap that exists in public policy literature around FLOSS. Warning against rhetorical pitfalls that have been prevalent in FLOSS research, this introduction starts with a short history of FLOSS development, continues with a brief thematic literature review and review of the misconceptions surrounding FLOSS, and concludes with a first introduction of the articles that follow.

In this paper, we presented an improved approach to design a broadband beamforming in time domain and its architecture on FPGA. The FIR digital filter with rigid linear phase was obtained by linearly constrained LMS algorithm. An iterative algorithm was used to enhance the performance of the FIR digital filter through adaptively optimizing cost function according to amplitude error function. Simulational and experimental results based on FPGA for a 10-element uniform linear array showed that the adaptive algorithm proposed in this paper was effective, can satisfied the real time requirement of underwater high speed signal processing. Moreover, this beamforming method was valuable in practical engineering in sonar systems, and can be applied to arbitrary array

A scenario is envisaged in which agents have tasks to perform and are in a position to exchange tasks to improve their performance, and thus perhaps affect the overall performance of the system. Our model uses two computing machines with their usual resources, and with random initial jobs to be processed. Their performance is dependent not only on absolute total load but also on how much of each machine's resources are in demand, thus giving scope for the beneficial exchange of jobs. This paper describes the development of a negotiation mechanism for job exchange between machines and measurement of system performance. The concept may be extended to multiple machines that act as agents exchanging resources and tasks.

We envisage a scenario where a system of network computer initially with random loads, exchange jobs to balance load among themselves to enhance their individual performance and to provide augmented quality of service (QoS) to the user community. We model the individual machines as agents interacting with one another. The agents have beliefs and aspirations. The aspiration of an agent is seek load from other, when it did not have enough to begin with, and sheds the same of it finds itself excessively loaded. This paper develops the concept with a design of a utility function to reflect the agent aspiration. We also propose a measure of load imbalance between networked machines. Negotiation mechanism is developed for exchange of jobs between agents. We report our result of the simulation with two machines and extend the same for three machines. The extension of the idea to a large number of machines entail coming to term with complexity in form of administrative overloads. We discuss the "small word" concept in the content of a simulation massively large number of machines interconnected.
