In this paper we introduce a reconciliation protocol with a two-step error correction scheme using a short blocklength low rate code and a long blocklength high rate code. We show that by using this two-step decoding method it is possible to achieve secret key rates beyond the Devetak-Winter bound. We simulate the protocol using short blocklength low-density parity check code, and show that we can obtain reconciliation efficiencies up to 1.5. Using these high reconciliation efficiencies, it is possible double the achievable distances of CV-QKD systems. © 2024, CC BY.

In the high sea state environment, the echo of small and slow ship targets is often submerged by sea clutter, and the conventional adaptive detection often has serious missed detection phenomenon. The adaptive detector is mainly based on the different statistical distribution of the sea clutter texture. However, the spatial correlation of sea clutter has not been attracted enough attention. Considering that the texture components of sea clutter are highly correlated in adjacent range cells, this paper proposes an adaptive detector based on the spatial correlation characteristics of sea clutter. The detector performs joint generalized likelihood ratio detection on the echo vector in the cell under test (CUT) and the echo vectors in the reference cells around the CUT. By adjusting the control parameters a, the detector matches the statistical characteristics of sea clutter amplitude in the CUT. The effectiveness of the proposed detector is verified by using the real sea clutter data. The experiments show that the proposed detector has a significant improvement in detection performance, which compares with the original $a$ matched filter (a-MF) and matched filter (MF).

In this report, we summarize the first NTIRE challenge on light field (LF) image super-resolution (SR), which aims at super-resolving LF images under the standard bicubic degradation with a magnification factor of 4. This challenge develops a new LF dataset called NTIRE-2023 for validation and test, and provides a toolbox called BasicLFSR to facilitate model development. Compared with single image SR, the major challenge of LF image SR lies in how to exploit complementary angular information from plenty of views with varying disparities. In total, 148 participants have registered the challenge, and 11 teams have successfully submitted results with PSNR scores higher than the baseline method LF-InterNet [1]. These newly developed methods have set new state-of-the-art in LF image SR, e.g., the winning method achieves around 1 dB PSNR improvement over the existing state-of-the-art method DistgSSR [2]. We report the solutions proposed by the participants, and summarize their common trends and useful tricks. We hope this challenge can stimulate future research and inspire new ideas in LF image SR. © 2023 IEEE.

With the continuous emergence of high-mobility communication scenarios, such as the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) and Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communications, more unique challenges have appeared in mobile communications, due to the severe Doppler frequency shift and fast time-varying channel caused by high mobility. Meanwhile, the moving speed, data volume, and quality of service are becoming more and more important in V2V communications. Providing efficient and reliable wireless communication services to high-mobility users has become a critical issue. Spatial modulation (SM) based orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) (SM-OTFS) system can improve the reliability and effectiveness of V2V communications because of the excellent Doppler shift resistance of OTFS modulation and the low complexity of SM transmission. In this paper, considering the case that achieving perfect channel estimation is really challenging in actual situation, we derive and analyze the capacity and outage performance of the SM-OTFS system under the circumstance of ideal pulse and imperfect channel state information (CSI) based on the statistical probability and the delay-Doppler domain (DD) input-output relationship. Our theoretical analysis and derivation are approved by the numerical results. Moreover, we also demonstrate the effect of the number of resolvable multipaths, the error of channel estimation, and the different moving speeds on the performance of the SM-OTFS system in V2V communications. © 2024, The Authors. Dissipative Kerr soliton microcombs in microresonators has enabled fundamental advances in chip-scale precision metrology, communication, spectroscopy, and parallel signal processing. Here we demonstrate polarization-diverse soliton transitions and deterministic switching dynamics of a self-stabilized microcomb in a strongly-coupled dispersion-managed microresonator driven with a single pump laser. The switching dynamics are induced by the differential thermorefractivity between coupled transverse-magnetic and transverse-electric supermodes during the forward-backward pump detunings. The achieved large soliton existence range and deterministic transitions benefit from the switching dynamics, leading to the cross-polarized soliton microcomb formation when driven in the transverse-magnetic supermode of the single resonator. Resultantly the pump laser always exists at the effective blue detuning of the transverse-magnetic resonance, fundamentally mitigating the thermal destabilization barrier and improving accessibility of the soliton formation regime. Subsequently and secondly, we demonstrate two distinct polarization-diverse soliton formation routes – arising from chaotic or periodically-modulated waveforms via pump power selection. The generated self-stabilized supermode microcomb features an extraordinarily large soliton existence range, a variety of soliton state transitions with well-defined pump laser tuning, high pump-microcomb conversion efficiency, and low repetition rate phase noise. Thirdly, to observe the cross-polarized supermode transition dynamics, we develop a parametric temporal magnifier with picosecond resolution, MHz frame rate and sub-ns temporal windows. We construct picosecond temporal transition portraits in 100-ns recording length of the strongly-coupled solitons, mapping the transitions from multiple soliton molecular states to singlet solitons. Federated learning (FL) and split learning (SL) are prevailing distributed paradigms in recent years. They both enable shared global model training while keeping data localized on users' devices. The former excels in parallel execution capabilities, while the latter enjoys low dependence on edge computing resources and strong privacy protection. Split federated learning (SFL) combines the strengths of both FL and SL, making it one of the most popular distributed architectures. Furthermore, a recent study has claimed that SFL exhibits robustness against poisoning attacks, with a fivefold improvement compared to FL in terms of robustness. In this paper, we present a novel poisoning attack known as MISA. It poisons both the top and bottom models, causing a misalignment in the global model, ultimately leading to a drastic accuracy collapse. This attack unveils the vulnerabilities in SFL, challenging the conventional belief that SFL is robust against poisoning attacks. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed MISA poses a significant threat to the availability of SFL, underscoring the imperative for academia and industry to accord this matter due attention. 3D object detection is an essential perception task in autonomous driving to understand the environments. The Bird’s-Eye-View (BEV) representations have significantly improved the performance of 3D detectors with camera inputs on popular benchmarks. However, there still lacks a systematic understanding of the robustness of these vision-dependent BEV models, which is closely related to the safety of autonomous driving systems. In this paper, we evaluate the natural and adversarial robustness of various representative models under extensive settings, to fully understand their behaviors influenced by explicit BEV features compared with those without BEV. In addition to the classic settings, we propose a 3D consistent patch attack by applying adversarial patches in the 3D space to guarantee the spatiotemporal consistency, which is more realistic for the scenario of autonomous driving. With substantial experiments, we draw several findings: 1) BEV models tend to be more stable than previous methods under different natural conditions and common corruptions due to the expressive spatial representations;2) BEV models are more vulnerable to adversarial noises, mainly caused by the redundant BEV features;3) Camera-LiDAR fusion models have superior performance under different settings with multi-modal inputs, but BEV fusion model is still vulnerable to adversarial noises of both point cloud and image.
