Through-Silicon-Vias (TSVs) are the key enabling technology for high performance of three-dimension Multi-processor System-on-Chip (3D-MPSoC). Physical weaknesses of TSVs can be exploited by malicious software to attack the system. By means of the manipulation of the TSV communication an attacker is able to modify, spy and even denial the TSV communication. Extending just 2D security mechanisms to 3D-MPSoC without taking into account the 3D aspects will not protect the system. In this paper we propose 3D-SECTSV, a flexible and efficient security architecture based on a 3D-NoC communication structure able to protect the TSV data exchange of 3D-MPSoCs. We compare our approach with several 3D-protection proposals, including the simple extension of 2D security countermeasures. We show that our solution outperforms other approaches with respect to attack detection while decreasing cost and performance impact on the system. © 2015 IEEE.

A Bell test is a randomized trial that compares experimental observations against the philosophical worldview of local realism1, in which the properties of the physical world are independent of our observation of them and no signal travels faster than light. A Bell test requires spatially distributed entanglement, fast and high-efficiency detection and unpredictable measurement settings2,3. Although technology can satisfy the first two of these requirements4–7, the use of physical devices to choose settings in a Bell test involves making assumptions about the physics that one aims to test. Bell himself noted this weakness in using physical setting choices and argued that human ‘free will’ could be used rigorously to ensure unpredictability in Bell tests8. Here we report a set of local-realism tests using human choices, which avoids assumptions about predictability in physics. We recruited about 100,000 human participants to play an online video game that incentivizes fast, sustained input of unpredictable selections and illustrates Bell-test methodology9. The participants generated 97,347,490 binary choices, which were directed via a scalable web platform to 12 laboratories on five continents, where 13 experiments tested local realism using photons5,6, single atoms7, atomic ensembles10, and superconducting devices11. Over a 12-hour period on 30 November 2016, participants worldwide provided a sustained data flow of over 1,000 bits per second to the experiments, which used different human-generated data to choose each measurement setting. The observed correlations strongly contradict local realism and other realistic positions in bipartite and tripartite12 scenarios. We present a scheme for realizing passive quantum key distribution with heralded single-photon sources. In this scheme, the idler light from the parametric down-conversion process is split into two parts and sent into two local detectors individually. Then all the clicking and nonclicking events are used to herald the arrival and nonarrival of the signal light. As a result, a precise estimation of the behavior of the single-photon pulses can be achieved without changing the light intensity. Furthermore, we compare our scheme with other existing methods with the Bennett-Brassard 1984 (BB84) protocol through numerical simulations. Our simulations demonstrate that the performance of our scheme can greatly overcome other existing practical methods and approach very close to the asymptotic case of using infinite-decoy-state methods.

The quaternion approach to solve the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations (CNSEs) in fibers is proposed, converting the CNSEs to a single variable equation by using a conception of eigen-quaternion of coupled quaternion. The crosstalk of quarter-phase-shift-key signals caused by fiber nonlinearity in polarization multiplexing systems with 100 Gbps bit-rate is investigated and simulated. The results demonstrate that the crosstalk is like a rotated ghosting of input constellation. For the 50 km conventional fiber link, when the total power is less than 4 mW, the crosstalk effect can be neglected; when the power is larger than 20 mW, the crosstalk is very obvious. In addition, the crosstalk can not be detected according to the output eye diagram and state of polarization in Poincaré sphere in the trunk fiber, making it difficult for the monitoring of optical trunk link. Chronic care manages long-term, progressive conditions, while acute care addresses short-term conditions. Chronic conditions increasingly strain health systems, which are often unprepared for these demands. This study examines the burden of conditions requiring acute versus chronic care, including sequelae. Conditions and sequelae from the Global Burden of Diseases Study 2019 were classified into acute or chronic care categories. Data were analysed by age, sex, and socio-demographic index, presenting total numbers and contributions to burden metrics such as Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), Years Lived with Disability (YLD), and Years of Life Lost (YLL). Approximately 68% of DALYs were attributed to chronic care, while 27% were due to acute care. Chronic care needs increased with age, representing 86% of YLDs and 71% of YLLs, and accounting for 93% of YLDs from sequelae. These findings highlight that chronic care needs far exceed acute care needs globally, necessitating health systems to adapt accordingly. © 2025. The Author(s).

In this work, we report the set-up and results of the Liver Tumor Segmentation Benchmark (LiTS), which was organized in conjunction with the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2017 and the International Conferences on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) 2017 and 2018. The image dataset is diverse and contains primary and secondary tumors with varied sizes and appearances with various lesion-to-background levels (hyper-/hypo-dense), created in collaboration with seven hospitals and research institutions. Seventy-five submitted liver and liver tumor segmentation algorithms were trained on a set of 131 computed tomography (CT) volumes and were tested on 70 unseen test images acquired from different patients. We found that not a single algorithm performed best for both liver and liver tumors in the three events. The best liver segmentation algorithm achieved a Dice score of 0.963, whereas, for tumor segmentation, the best algorithms achieved Dices scores of 0.674 (ISBI 2017), 0.702 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.739 (MICCAI 2018). Retrospectively, we performed additional analysis on liver tumor detection and revealed that not all top-performing segmentation algorithms worked well for tumor detection. The best liver tumor detection method achieved a lesion-wise recall of 0.458 (ISBI 2017), 0.515 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.554 (MICCAI 2018), indicating the need for further research. Ensuring security in Multi-processors Systems-on-Chip (MPSoCs) leads to several design challenges due to their intrinsic complexity. Distributed and collaborative MPSoC computing forces the application spreading on the computing resources. As a result sensitive information is exchanged among the different computation components through the Networks-on-Chip (NoCs). Security zones can be built for wrapping the sensitive IPs. However, these zones may not always be physically close. In this work we propose for the first time a NoC architecture for creating NoC-based disrupted security zones. A group-wise key agreement technique at NoC level is employed to create secure and dynamic communication channels among the hardware components. We evaluate our approach under synthetic traffic patterns and the execution of SPLASH2 benchmarks. We show that our architecture is able to efficiently manage dynamic security domains while presenting low impact on the performance and cost of MPSoCs.
