This paper considers the usage of artificial intelligence, in particular, neural networks, to correct and compensate thermocouple errors. There are the correction of the thermocouple tolerance, the error due to conversion characteristic drift under the influence of high operating temperatures as well as the compensation of the error due to acquired thermoelectric inhomogeneity of thermocouple legs proposed in this paper. The correction is carried out using individual mathematical models based on neural networks. It is proposed the neural network method for controlling a temperature field to compensate the error due to acquired thermoelectric inhomogeneity. © 2016 IEEE.

An Analysis of Driver's Avoiding Maneuver in a Highly Emergency Situation

This paper discusses driver's emergency avoiding behavior while he or she is driving a car in a rural area. Based on behavioral data obtained from an experiment conducted in France with a high-fidelity driving simulator, the authors analyzed the driver behavior just before the collision. The results showed that the drivers tended to choose a “rational” behavior to avoid the collision by using the available visual cues even though the situation is extremely time critical, i.e., the time to collision was only approximately 1.5 seconds.

This paper proposes an annealed particle swarm optimization based particle filter algorithm for articulated 3D human body tracking. In our algorithm, a sampling covariance and an annealing factor are incorporated into the velocity updating equation of particle swarm optimization (PSO). The sampling covariance and the annealing factor are initiated with appropriate values at the beginning of the PSO iteration, and 'annealing' is carried out at reasonable steps. Experiments with multi-camera walking sequences from the Brown dataset show that: 1) the proposed tracker can effectively alleviate the problem of inconsistency between the image likelihood and the true model;2) the tracker is also robust to noise and body self-occlusion. © 2010 IEEE.

Earlier investigations show that the results of hazard identification (HAZID) and analysis (e.g. HAZOP or FMEA) can effectively be used for knowledge-based diagnosis of complex process systems in their steady-state operation. In order to extend this approach for transient operating conditions controlled by operating procedures, the notion of nominal input-output event sequences of qualitative signals has been introduced, and the deviations used in the procedure HAZID analysis have been defined therefrom. The diagnosis can then be performed algorithmically by matching the deviation sequences of the observed input-output event sequences and the nominal ones generated by qualitative dynamic models. The concepts and methods are illustrated using a simple case study consisting of a simple tank, controlled by an operating procedure. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Most of the online courses nowadays are offered in asynchronous mode, enabling students with the freedom of time and distance. Nonetheless, the drop-out rate for online courses is high. With online synchronous instruction students have both freedom of distance and punctuality of regular progress and the drop-out rate is found to be greatly reduced. However, there is a lack of online synchronous teaching pedagogies in the literature for teachers. This study aims to identify major issues that need to be considered in online synchronous instruction environments using observations of real online synchronous instruction in a physical setup. This paper then recommends some pedagogical guidelines for effective online synchronous teaching. © 2009 IEEE.

A simple dynamic model of an industrial size synchronous generator operating in a nuclear power plant is developed in this paper based on first engineering principles. The constructed state-space model consists of a nonlinear state equation and a bi-linear output equation. It has been shown that the model is locally asymptotically stable with parameters obtained from the literature for a similar generator. The effect of load disturbances on the partially controlled generator has been analyzed by simulation using a traditional PI controller. It has been found that the controlled system is stable and can follow the set-point changes in the effective power well. The disturbance rejection of the controller is also satisfactory.

The algorithm of functioning tables' formation of the basic non-standard node (equivalents generator) by the method of equivalents accumulation was been considered in the code converters. Formulas for lines amount in the functioning table of the equivalent's generator were been obtained. In comparison with the serial strategy, the proposed author's method allows to reduce the amount of the conversion cycles of the two-steps parallel code converters from 7 to 5 steps (increase the performance at 28,57%), and for the three-step parallel code converters-from 4 to 3 steps (increase the performance at 25%). The conducted researches allow accelerating a stage of a system design of the code converters with the parallel strategy of the step usage, increasing code converters performance and reducing hardware expenses of the construction of the main non-standard node of the equivalents generator and code converters in generally. An advantage by the method of equivalents accumulation of code converters in comparison with other methods is a high calculation performance and the possibility of changing in the wide boundaries of the ratio between speed and hardware expenses. © 2021 IEEE.

The choice of systems for level measurements determined by the properties of the fluid, the design features of the tank, the type of level reading and other factors. This article discusses the results of the experimental study of two automated measuring systems and analyzes the errors in measuring the level of light fuels in the laboratory and real conditions.
