Strategic Robust Mixed Model Assembly Line Balancing Based on Scenario Planning

Assembly line balancing involves assigning a series of task elements to uniform sequential stations with certain restrictions. Decision makers often discover that a task assignment which is optimal with respect to a deterministic or stochastic/fuzzy model yields quite poor performance in reality. In real environments, assembly line balancing robustness is a more appropriate decision selection guide. A robust model based on the α worst case scenario is developed to compensate for the drawbacks of traditional robust criteria. A robust genetic algorithm is used to solve the problem. Comprehensive computational experiments to study the effect of the solution procedure show that the model generates more flexible robust solutions. Careful tuning the value of α allows the decision maker to balance robustness and conservativeness of as- sembly line task element assignments.

The IEC 61499 enables different approaches for application development, and this can undermine the emerging open knowledge economy. Developers typically try to use an approach that resembles their previous programming experience, and this can result In the new features of IEC 61499 to be overlooked. Even when designers are able to turn out working software, the various components are often Incompatible because they incorporate diverse design principles. In this research, we look at the different levels of the application hierarchy, In order to understand the design decisions that need to be made. We have organized a laboratory experiment with professional designers and researchers, and we use qualitative research methods to understand the design choices that participants with different backgrounds make. © 2006 IEEE.

A Decode-and-Forward Scheme for LDPC Coded Three-Way Relay Fading Channels

In this paper a low-density pairwise check(LDPC) coded three-way relay system is considered, where three user nodes desire to exchange messages with the help of one relay node. Since physical-layer network coding is applied, two time slots are sufficient for one round information exchange. In this paper, we present a decode-and-forward(DF) scheme based on joint LDPC decoding for three-way relay channels, where relay decoder partially decodes the network code rather than fully decodes all the user messages. Simulation results show that the new DF scheme considerably outperforms other common schemes in three-way relay fading channels.

This paper provides an in-depth analysis and performance evaluation of four Solar Radiance (SR) prediction models. The prediction is ensured for a period ranging from a few hours to several days of the year. These models are derived from four machine learning methods, namely the Feed-forward Back Propagation (FFBP) method, Convolutional Feed-forward Back Propagation (CFBP) method, Support Vector Regression (SVR), and the hybrid deep learning (DL) method, which combines Convolutional Neural Networks and Long Short-Term Memory networks. This combination results in the CNN-LSTM model. Additionally, statistical indicators use Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), and Normalized Root Mean Squared Error (nRMSE). Each indicator compares the predicted output by each model above and the actual output, pre-recorded in the experimental trial. The experimental results consistently show the power of the CNN-LSTM model compared to the remaining models in terms of accuracy and reliability. This is due to its lower error rate and higher detection coefficient (R² = 0.99925). © The Author(s) 2025.

Generative AI (GenAI) is driving the intelligence of wireless communications. Due to data limitations, random generation, and dynamic environments, GenAI may generate channel information or optimization strategies that violate physical laws or deviate from actual real-world requirements. We refer to this phenomenon as wireless hallucination, which results in invalid channel information, spectrum wastage, and low communication reliability but remains underexplored. To address this gap, this article provides a comprehensive concept of wireless hallucinations in GenAI-driven communications, focusing on hallucination mitigation. Specifically, we first introduce the fundamental, analyze its causes based on the GenAI workflow, and propose mitigation solutions at the data, model, and post-generation levels. Then, we systematically examines representative hallucination scenarios in GenAI-enabled communications and their corresponding solutions. Finally, we propose a novel integrated mitigation solution for GenAI-based channel estimation. At the data level, we establish a channel estimation hallucination dataset and employ generative adversarial networks (GANs)-based data augmentation. Additionally, we incorporate attention mechanisms and large language models (LLMs) to enhance both training and inference performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid solutions reduce the normalized mean square error (NMSE) by 0.19, effectively reducing wireless hallucinations. Cloud manufacturing system is a service-oriented and knowledge-based one, which can provide solutions for the large-scale customized production. The service resource allocation is the primary factor that restricts the production time and cost in the cloud manufacturing customized production (CMCP). In order to improve the efficiency and reduce the cost in CMCP, we propose a new framework that considers the collaboration among services with the same functionality. A mathematical evaluation formulation for the service composition and service usage scheme is constructed with the following critical indexes: completion time, cost, and number of selected services. Subsequently, a problem decomposition-based genetic algorithm is designed to obtain the optimal service compositions with service usage schemes. A smart clothing customization case is illustrated so as to show the effectiveness and efficiency of the method proposed in this paper. Finally, the results of simulation experiments and comparisons show that these solutions obtained by our method are with the minimum time, a lower cost, and the fewer selected services. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Many physical systems in the real world exhibit complex behavior, making it difficult to identify their dynamics. To overcome this problem, prototypes are created to provide a better insight into the behavior of such systems. However, building these prototypes using traditional methods is often slow due to the computational intensity required to accurately capture the detailed complexities within these systems and the large parameter space that needs to be explored. Data-driven approaches, such as machine learning and deep learning frameworks, have the potential to significantly speed up this process by generalizing the model. In this study, we explore the use of such an approach to understand the complex and non-linear behavior of dynamical systems, using resistive random access memory (ReRAM) devices as a case study. It is important to emphasize that modeling ReRAM is only one specific example in our wider investigation, which aims to design predictive models for a range of non-linear dynamical systems. Our work attempts to overcome the limitations of traditional research and development by using neural networks to reproduce the complex behavior of ReRAM cells accurately. We introduce a hybrid dual-input neural network architecture (HDiNN), equipped with a custom loss function, to capture both spatial and temporal patterns, improving the predictability of cell behavior under different conditions. This involves integrating important factors such as material properties, device geometry, and electrical interactions into our model to explain the complexities of ReRAM technology. However, our ambitions extend far beyond ReRAM to develop methods to help create innovative, durable solutions in various fields. This study highlights the impact of predictive modeling in advancing materials science and demonstrates the transformative potential of neural networks in improving the design and optimization of future technologies. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

While automation systems can track thousands of measurements it is still up to human process operators to determine the operational situation of the controlled process, particularly in abnormal situations. To fully exploit the computing power of embedded processors and to release humans from simple data harvesting activities, the concept of proactive computing tries to exploit the strengths of both man and machine. Proactive features can be implemented using intelligent agent technology, enabling humans to move from simple interaction with computers into supervisory tasks. Autonomous information agents can handle massive amounts of heterogeneous data. They perform tedious tasks of information retrieving, combining and monitoring on the behalf of their users. This paper presents a multi-agent-based architecture for process automation, which aims to support process operators in their monitoring activities. The approach is tested with a scenario inspired by a real-world industrial challenge.

Developing parallel discrete event simulation programs is a difficult and time consuming process often ending with disappointment as the achieved performance is often lower than expected. Developers need performance prediction tools that are capable of providing information on the future performance of the parallel program prior to implementation. This paper describes a performance analyser tool developed to predict the performance of parallel discrete event simulation programs. Its unique feature is that it does not require the existence of the parallel program;it gathers the necessary program information from a trace file generated by a sequential simulation run. This enables one to determine, using a sequential simulation program, whether or not a parallel implementation is suitable, and if so, which approach is the best for the given simulation problem. The parallel version then only has to be developed if proved to be successful. The paper describes the analyser program, its architecture, functionality and use. © 2003, UK Simulation Society.
