The next generation of learners expects more informality in learning. Formal learning systems such as traditional LMS systems no longer meet the needs of a generation of learners used to Twitter and Facebook, social networking and usergenerated content. Regardless of this, however, formal content and learning models are still important and play a major role in educating learners, particularly in enterprise. So a new challenge for e-learning is to create collaborative learning spaces in which informal learning can thrive. To overcome such problem, innovative technology is added to e-learning environment to incorporate informal learning capabilities to formal learning architectures.

We investigate the complexity of computing entropy of various Markovian models including Markov Chains (MCs), Interval Markov Chains (IMCs) and Markov Decision Processes (MDPs). We consider both entropy and entropy rate for general MCs, and study two algorithmic questions, i.e., entropy approximation problem and entropy threshold problem. The former asks for an approximation of the entropy/entropy rate within a given precision, whereas the latter aims to decide whether they exceed a given threshold. We give polynomial-time algorithms for the approximation problem, and show the threshold problem is in PCH3 (hence in PSPACE) and in P assuming some number-theoretic conjectures. Furthermore, we study both questions for IMCs and MDPs where we aim to maximise the entropy/entropy rate among an infinite family of MCs associated with the given model. We give various conditional decidability results for the threshold problem, and show the approximation problem is solvable in polynomial-time via convex programming.

Over the last decade, the concept of e-learning has become an important topic. E-learning today gives the student a central role in his/her own learning process. It allows students to try things out, participate in courses, tests and simulations like never before, and get more out of learning than before. In this paper, an adaptive e-learning environment for logic gates, simplification of Boolean functions and related fields is presented. The presented model generates suitable courses for each student in a dynamic form. The proposed environment is designed by integrating visual basic, flash and other effective tools. The contributions of this paper are supporting adaptive e-learning environment to improve learning and an evaluation of its use in context.

The demand for education in the area of simulation is in the increase. This paper describes how education in the field of simulation can take advantage of the virtues of intelligent tutoring with respect to enhancing the educational process. For this purpose, this paper gives an overview of what constitutes the objectives and the content of a comprehensive course in discrete event simulation. The architecture of an intelligent tutoring system is presented and it is discussed how these sophisticated learning aids offer individualised student guidance and support within a learning environment. The paper then introduces a prototype intelligent tutoring system, the simulation tutor, and suggests how the system might be developed to enhance education in simulation.

We settle an open question on the complexity of the following problem: given two OWL2QL TBoxes and a signature, decide whether these TBoxes return the same answers to any conjunctive query over any data formulated in the given signature. It has been known that the complexity of this problem is between PSpace and ExpTime. Here we show that the problem is ExpTime-complete and, in fact, deciding whether two OWL2QL knowledge bases (each with its own data) give the same answers to any conjunctive query is ExpTime-hard.
