The current study investigates the impact of different narration types (academic, robotic, and daily) used in instructional videos on the facial emotional states (happy, neutral, and sad) of students with varying academic achievement levels (low, medium, and high). The research employs a true experimental design, randomly assigning participants to experimental and control groups. The study utilises a machine learning-based facial emotion recognition system, 'Moodle Face Proctoring,' to capture and analyse students' facial expressions while watching videos. The collected data is then processed using a deep learning technique called Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to classify emotional states. The data was analysed using the process-mining technique to examine the impact of narration types on the participants' emotional state. The study's findings reveal that students exposed to robotic narration predominantly exhibit 'Sad' emotional states, regardless of their achievement levels. In contrast, students exposed to academic and daily narration primarily display 'Happy' emotional states, irrespective of their achievement levels. We conclude there may not be a direct relationship between the narration type and academic achievement based on machine learning-based facial emotion measures. The study underscores the significant potential of machine learning-based facial emotion recognition systems in understanding the emotional impact of multimedia learning materials on learners. It also highlights the need for further research to explore the complex interplay between emotions, narration type, and academic achievement in online learning environments. © 2025, The Authors. The objective of the study is to establish the technologies of automatic similarity analysis and comparison of two method patents in order to reduce the cost and human efforts. We propose a method to compare the similarity between the components and prepositions. The proposed methods automatically extract components, relations between components, steps, and relations between steps, and establish a machine readable tree structures for similarity comparison. Our experiments use the USPTO database [1] as data resource. The study conducts two experiments to evaluate the performance: 1) applying genetic algorithms to learn the weightings in calculation of step similarity and 2) comparing the performance with a statistical similarity calculation method, BLEU. The experimental results show that the system performs better in terms of recall and precision than BLEU methods that are usually adopted in machine translation.

Language Guided Concept Bottleneck Models for Interpretable Continual Learning

Continual learning (CL) aims to enable learning systems to acquire new knowledge constantly without forgetting previously learned information. CL faces the challenge of mitigating catastrophic forgetting while maintaining interpretability across tasks. Most existing CL methods focus primarily on preserving learned knowledge to improve model performance. However, as new information is introduced, the interpretability of the learning process becomes crucial for understanding the evolving decision-making process, yet it is rarely explored. In this paper, we introduce a novel framework that integrates language-guided Concept Bottleneck Models (CBMs) to address both challenges. Our approach leverages the Concept Bottleneck Layer, aligning semantic consistency with CLIP models to learn human-understandable concepts that can generalize across tasks. By focusing on interpretable concepts, our method not only enhances the model’s ability to retain knowledge over time but also provides transparent decision-making insights. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach by achieving superior performance on several datasets, outperforming state-of-the-art methods with an improvement of up to 3.06% in final average accuracy on ImageNet-subset. Additionally, we offer concept visualizations for model predictions, further advancing the understanding of interpretable continual learning. Immunization and vaccination do not exactly mean the same thing. The term "vaccination" refers to receiving a vaccine, which includes receiving the injection or oral dose. Immunization is the process of receiving the vaccine and developing an immunity to the disease after receiving it. By compiling immunization information into a single trustworthy source, Immunization information systems (IIS) assist healthcare professionals, families, and public health officials. The data can then be utilized to enhance vaccination rates, direct patient treatment, and ultimately lower the incidence of diseases that are preventable by vaccination. This paper seeks to identify the immunization information systems (IIS) concept its functions, clarify why it is important, propose a framework of cloud Immunization information systems, discuss the levels of this framework and its goals, challenges, and opportunities. © 2023, ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Opinion mining or sentiment analysis is a type of natural language processing that extracts the knowledge of people by means of opinion about a particular topic. The identification of opinion sentiment orientation (positive, negative and neutral) is an essential part of the opinion mining process. This article presents tools and techniques of opinion mining. Related work has been presented. Also, an experiment done on NEWS ARAB newspaper is also conducted. The newspaper text was preprocessed and then term frequency was calculated. The main goal of the experiment was to identify the overall polarity of the newspaper. The results show that the newspaper is more oriented to political news. Furthermore, more opinion techniques could be applied to the newspaper corpus. © 2017 IEEE.

The affine-motion model is able to capture rotation, zooming, and the deformation of moving objects, thereby providing a better motion-compensated prediction. However, it is not widely used due to difficulty in both estimation and efficient coding of its motion parameters. To alleviate this problem, a new control-point representation that favors differential coding is proposed for efficient compression of affine parameters. By exploiting the spatial correlation between adjacent coding blocks, motion vectors at control points can be predicted and thus efficiently coded, leading to overall improved performance. To evaluate the proposed method, four new affine prediction modes are designed and embedded into the high-efficiency video coding test model HM1.0. The encoder adaptively chooses whether to use the new affine mode in an operational rate-distortion optimization. Bitrate savings up to 33.82% in low-delay and 23.90% in random-access test conditions are obtained for low-complexity encoder settings. For high-efficiency settings, bitrate savings up to 14.26% and 4.89% for these two modes are observed. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Reliability and survivability analysis for UMTS networks: An analytical approach

Reliability and survivability are the two important attributes of cellular networks. In the existing literature, these measures were studied through the simulation. In this paper, we construct an analytical model to determine reliability and survivability attributes of third generation and beyond Universal Mobile Telecommunication systems (UMTS) networks. Hierarchical architecture of UMTS networks is modeled using stochastic models such as Markov chains, semi-Markov process, reliability block diagrams and Markov reward models to obtain these attributes. The model can be tailored to evaluate the reliability and survivability attributes of other beyond third generation cellular networks such as All-IP UMTS networks and CDMA2000. Numerical results illustrate the applicability of the proposed analytical model. It is observed that incorporating fault tolerance increases the network reliability and survivability. The results are useful for reliable topological design of UMTS networks. In addition, it can help the guarantee of network connectivity after any failure, without over dimensioning the networks. Moreover, it might have some impact from the point of view of the design and evaluation of UMTS infrastructures. © 2009 IEEE.

Workflow-based web service composition (WB-WSC) is one of the four main categories of web service composition approaches. This category lacks supporting quality of services (QoS). Polymorphic Process Model (PPM) is a WB-WSC that supports both reference process and service-based multi-enterprises processes. Through this paper an initial work was proposed in which PPM was transformed to Petri Net. Also the final Petri Net model was evaluated structurally. It was also shown that how Petri Net can help to calculate the quality of service in a WB-WSC approach. © 2011 IEEE.
