The effectiveness of digital content in promoting sustainable recycling, reusing, and reducing behaviors is largely unknown. This research used a sequential mixed-method approach to unearth the efficacy of environmental framing in digital content to foster recycling, reusing, and reducing practices that remain minimal. Study 1 analyzed YouTube content over four years, revealing that environmental issues were framed around legislation and climate change to encourage sustainable behavior. Study 2, a series of quasi-experiments with 320 African participants, tested the efficacy of these frames. The results of Study 1 revealed that climate change was the dominant frame used for digital journalistic practice, with 133 vodcasts, followed by environmental legislation with 89 vodcasts. The results of Study 2 suggested that climate change, global warming, and environmental legislation framing can result in enhancing emotional response and environmental knowledge that influence sustainable behavior. Theoretically, these results recognized that the message-consistent effects of digital content frames manifesting climate awareness and scientific evidence made viewers embrace sustainable behaviors.

With the rapid growth of electronic and mobile commerce today, how to design a secure and efficient remote user authentication scheme with resource-limited devices over insecure networks has become an important issue. In this paper, we present a robust authentication scheme for the mobile device (a non-tamper-resistant device in which the secret authentication information stored in it could be retrieved) to solve the challenging lost device problem. It tries to satisfy the following advanced essential security features: (1) protecting user privacy in terms of anonymity and non-traceability, (2) supporting session keys with perfect forward secrecy, and (3) secure even for the case of lost devices, in addition to the conventional security requirements. The security of our scheme is based on the quadratic residue assumption, which has the same complexity as in solving the discrete logarithm problem. However, the computation of the quadratic congruence is very efficient. It only needs one squaring and one modular operations in the mobile device end, which is much cheaper than the expensive modular exponentiation used in those schemes based on the discrete logarithm problem. Thus, using the quadratic congruence, our scheme can achieve robustness and efficiency, even for the non-tamper-resistant mobile device. © 2019, ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

This article is devoted to the selection and evaluation of language features used in the tasks of automatic text-independent speaker verification. The task of automatic speaker identification is one of the most difficult tasks in the field of language processing. The methods used in current speaker identification systems are not ideal, that imposes some restrictions on such systems. Some systems work well in good acoustic conditions, with minimal noise, but noticeably lose recognition accuracy in low signal-to-noise conditions. The requirements for the accuracy of speaker identification for such systems set a certain bar, which increases every year. Improving authentication accuracy extends the scope of such systems, including biometric multi-factor authentication systems, remote banking, access control systems, and more. Thus, to meet the needs of these systems consumers, the high requirements for the speaker recognition accuracy are required.

Fog computing is an architecture that is used to distribute resources such as computing, storage, and memory closer to end-user to improve applications and service deployment. The idea behind fog computing is to improve cloud computing and IoT infrastructures by reducing compute power, network bandwidth, and latency as well as storage requirements. This paper presents an overview of what fog computing is, related concepts, algorithms that are present to improve fog computing infrastructure as well as challenges that exist. With the rapid progress of deepfake techniques in recent years, facial video forgery can generate highly deceptive video contents and bring severe security threats. And detection of such forgery videos is much more urgent and challenging. Most existing detection methods treat the problem as a vanilla binary classification problem. In this paper, the problem is treated as a special fine-grained classification problem since the differences between fake and real faces are very subtle. It is observed that most existing face forgery methods left some common artifacts in the spatial domain and time domain, including generative defects in the spatial domain and inter-frame inconsistencies in the time domain. And a spatial-temporal model is proposed which has two components for capturing spatial and temporal forgery traces in global perspective respectively. The two components are designed using a novel long distance attention mechanism. The one component of the spatial domain is used to capture artifacts in a single frame, and the other component of the time domain is used to capture artifacts in consecutive frames. They generate attention maps in the form of patches. The attention method has a broader vision which contributes to better assembling global information and extracting local statistic information. Finally, the attention maps are used to guide the network to focus on pivotal parts of the face, just like other fine-grained classification methods. The experimental results on different public datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art performance, and the proposed long distance attention method can effectively capture pivotal parts for face forgery. This article synthesizes the insights gained through presentations and discussions at the 2023 IEEE Workshop on Norbert Wiener in the 21st Century (21CW2023), which focused on "The Future of Work in the Age of Automation."Hosted at Purdue University, this interdisciplinary convening of technologists, social scientists, and humanists explored the impacts of automation on labor, drawing on Wiener's legacy of insights as a backdrop to examine the technologically mediated future we face in coming decades. The workshop presented a rare opportunity to reflect critically on these issues at a pivotal moment in human and technological history, and to elicit underappreciated dimensions. Areas of focus include: the qualitative and quantitative losses associated with automation and AI, the impacts automation has for questions about the meaningfulness of work, the challenges we face related to uncertainty and lack of predictability in technological advancement, and the opportunities that exist for centering human values and agency in these conversations. While acknowledging many items for concern in the context of automation in the future of work, such as the domination of economic narratives, a potential loss of qualitative texture, and the neglect of certain issues key to human identity, the authors conclude by offering optimistic visions - or calls - for redefining value and labor, preserving human agency, and embracing creative problem-solving. © 2024 IEEE.

This study presents analytical results of the relationship between student grade in a database class and frequency of SQL execution using our SQL learning support system. In the class of “database system”, students are required to learn SQL, which is a standard query language for the relational database system, as the fundamental knowledge of this subject. Through the SQL learning, students can learn the practical database skills for design and operation of database system. Therefore, in the database class, it is clearly important to lead students to correct understanding of SQL for nurturing skilled engineer of the database system. For this purpose, we have developed a web-based learning system for supporting SQL practice. In this study, using this SQL learning support system, we recorded and analyzed learning histories of students in the class conducted in 2015. The analytical results showed that there was a strong correlation between the frequency of SQL execution and the grade of final examination.

The inevitable rise and development of artificial intelligence (AI) was not a sudden occurrence. The greater the effect that AI has on humans, the more pressing the need is for us to understand it. This paper addresses research on the use of AI to evaluate new design methods and tools that can be leveraged to advance AI research, education, policy, and practice to improve the human condition. AI has the potential to educate, train, and improve the performance of humans, making them better at their tasks and activities. The use of AI can enhance human welfare in numerous respects, such as through improving the productivity of food, health, water, education, and energy services. However, the misuse of AI due to algorithm bias and a lack of governance could inhibit human rights and result in employment, gender, and racial inequality. We envision that AI can evolve into human-centered AI (HAI), which refers to approaching AI from a human perspective by considering human conditions and contexts. Most current discussions on AI technology focus on how AI can enable human performance. However, we explore AI can also inhibit the human condition and advocate for an in-depth dialog between technology- and humanity-based researchers to improve understanding of HAI from various perspectives. © 2021 The Author(s)

We propose an electronic voting scheme for multiple questions voting based on masked ballots, homomorph counting, publicly verifiable secret sharing based tallying and public communication channels. In our scheme all on-line authority functions (authentication, candidate slate check, counting and tallying) are distributed among the active voters. Off-line authorities only prepare and distribute election secrets. We analyze our scheme for different adversary attacks and show that the maximum that the strongest adversary can achieve is a random attack. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
