Mental health conditions pose a major challenge to healthcare providers and society at large. According to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, one in five people will develop a serious mood disorder, including depression, at some time in their life [2]. Early intervention can have significant positive impact on a person's prognosis, particularly important in affecting outcomes for young people [38]. Co-designed solutions to improve resilience and well-being in young people have specifically been recognised as part of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy and the New Zealand Health Strategy. Innovative interventions that support long-term change for individuals are urgently needed [10]. Self-compassion/self-criticism constitutes a protective/risk factor with regard to developing and maintaining depression [3]; particularly in young people [4]. Self-criticism is one of the major psychological factors, defined as dominant response style of negative evaluation and judgement of self to perceived failure [5]. One effective method to increase self-compassion and reduction in depression may be to address self-criticism through compassion-focused therapy [6]. Virtual Reality (VR) in Health is an emerging field. It is becoming more commonplace with the advent of affordable consumer head mounted devices, and has significant potential for the understanding, assessment and treatment of mental health problems [7]. It can provide a non-threatening, zero risk environment which allows for free exploring of different strategies [16]. We propose to take this new technology and co-design Virtual Reality scenarios with young people, which focuses on real world situations that impact the sample group most and assists them to view these experiences with a self-compassionate lens. The detection of double JPEG compression with the same quantization matrix is a challenging problem in image forensics. In this paper, a CNN framework is proposed to solve this problem. This framework contains a preprocessing layer and a well-designed CNN. In the preprocessing layer, the rounding and truncation error images are extracted from continuous recompressed input samples and then fed into the following CNN. In the design of the CNN architecture, several advanced techniques are carefully considered to prevent overfitting, such as 1×1 convolutional kernel and global average pooling layer. The performance of proposed framework is evaluated on the public available image dataset (BOSSbase) with various quality factors (QF). Experimental results have shown the proposed CNN framework performs better than the state-of-the-art method based on hand-crafted features.

In order to guarantee the safety of the human-robot interaction,an impedance control with adaptive fuzzy approach is proposed in this ***,by introducing a coordinate transformation,the control objective to track a desired impedance model is converted to the convergence of an error *** a filter is used to set up the relationship between the error signal and the control input of the robot *** doing this,a control law is obtained with fuzzy logic systems to approximate unknown nonlinear dynamical functions,and adaptive laws are designed to guarantee the stability of the closed-loop *** control law is concise in structure and clear in design process,by which the impedance error will converge to an arbitrarily small neighborhood of *** studies are conducted to verify the validity of the proposed approach.

Digital health technologies (smartphones, smartwatches, and other body-worn sensors) can act as novel tools to aid in the diagnosis and remote objective monitoring of an individual's disease symptoms, both in clinical care and in research. Nonetheless, such digital health technologies have yet to widely demonstrate value in clinical research due to insufficient data interpretability and lack of regulatory acceptance. Metadata, i.e., data that accompany and describe the primary data, can be utilized to better understand the context of the sensor data and can assist in data management, data sharing, and subsequent data analysis. The need for data and metadata standards for digital health technologies has been raised in academic and industry research communities and has also been noted by regulatory authorities. Therefore, to address this unmet need, we here propose a metadata set that reflects regulatory guidelines and that can serve as a conceptual map to (1) inform researchers on the metadata they should collect in digital health studies, aiming to increase the interpretability and exchangeability of their data, and (2) direct standard development organizations on how to extend their existing standards to incorporate digital health technologies. The proposed metadata set is informed by existing standards pertaining to clinical trials and medical devices, in addition to existing schemas that have supported digital health technology studies. We illustrate this specifically in the context of Parkinson's disease, as a model for a wide range of other chronic conditions for which remote monitoring would be useful in both care and science. We invite the scientific and clinical research communities to apply the proposed metadata set to ongoing and planned research. Where the proposed metadata fall short, we ask users to contribute to its ongoing revision so that an adequate degree of consensus can be maintained in a rapidly evolving technology landscape. © 2019 The Author(s

Blockchain technology is a ledger system that is popularly known as the backbone of the Bitcoin cryptocur-rency. Since its conception, the potential beneficial applications of blockchain in other digital sectors have been lauded in the literature, and related challenges have been disputed. In this study, the literature is reviewed for frameworks and use cases that fully realize the applicability of blockchain beyond financial applications and cryptocurrencies. A network analysis of the literature was performed to identify the most popularly documented digital sectors in this context, which include the Internet of Things (IoT), healthcare, supply chain management, and government sectors. For each sector, this review documents use cases in which an attempt is made to implement blockchain solutions. The main purpose of this paper is to probe each sector for the growing maturity of blockchain technology and to document the unique benefits and challenges arising from the use of this technology. The findings show that despite the growing reputation of blockchain technology, its implementation within these four sectors remains in infancy because the use cases lack concrete evaluations of its effectiveness and plausibility. Nevertheless, the categorization of current blockchain use cases demonstrates current applications and sector-specific concerns that suggest future directions for further research.

Project-based learning has been in widespread use in education. However, project managers are unaware of the students’ lack of experience and treat them as if they were professional staff. This paper proposes the application of a fuzzy failure mode and effects analysis model for project-based software engineering education. This method integrates the fuzzy rule-based system with learning agents. The agents construct the membership function from historical data. Data are processed by a clustering process that facilitates the construction of the membership function. It helps students who lack experience in risk assessment to develop their expertise in that skill. The paper also suggests a classification technique for a fuzzy rule-based system that can be used to judge risk based on a fuzzy inference system. The student project will thus be further enhanced with respect to risk assessment. We then discuss the design of experiments to verify the proposed model.

computer Aided Detection (CAD) systems provide a second opinion to radiologists in detecting lung cancer by providing automated analysis of the scans. The proposed CAD system consists of five processing steps: image acquisition, preprocessing, lung segmentation, nodule detection and false positive reduction. First, 400 CT scans are downloaded from the Lung Image Database Consortium (LIDC). Preprocessing is implemented using contrast stretching and enhancing. Lung segmentation and nodule detection stages are performed using a combination of region growing, thresholding and morphological operations. Each 3D structure is then subjected to tabular structure elimination to provide nodule candidates. In the false positive reduction stage, some of the basic nodule features are extracted from the training data to set thresholds for a simple rule-based classifier. The CAD achieved sensitivity of 77.77%, specificity of 69.5% and accuracy 70.53 % with an average 4.1 FPs/scan. © 2017 IEEE.

Team-based learning helps students understand methods of usability enhancement by discussing problems and improvements during product development. In this paper, we examine the types of discussions and communication among the teams and their members that were most important for progressively better results in terms of learning reflection. In this study, three teams from two different countries are compared: 1. Arabic team (consisted of 3 Arab students);2. Japanese team (consisted of 4 Japanese students);and, 3. International team (consisted of 3 Japanese students and 2 Arab students). All the students were between 18 and 24 years old. Each team started with the same level of a basic HTML and javascript browser game, and this was provided by the experimenter. Teams were required to develop the game with user testing between versions. The game was developed using an online game editor provided by the experimenters. Code changes and updates were based on user testing by the other teams. The study lasted 3 weeks, with 3 development cycles. At the end of the study, the participants provided their social media communications, including Skype messenger, Facebook messenger, and other instant messaging applications. Based on their communications, we examined the relationships between team activities and their learning experiences with the project overall. The discussions and communications via social media of each group were categorized as: Proposal, Permission, Encouragement, and Acknowledgment using protocol analysis. The analysed results indicate that the learning satisfaction is influenced by what was communicated. In addition, we concluded that Proposal was the most effective type of communication among teams in terms of the learning reflection, especially for satisfaction and achievement. This paper reports on our findings and implications for team-based learning using online media.

Research software has become a central asset in academic research. It optimizes existing and enables new research methods, implements and embeds research knowledge, and constitutes an essential research product in itself. Research software must be sustainable in order to understand, replicate, reproduce, and build upon existing research or conduct new research effectively. In other words, software must be available, discoverable, usable, and adaptable to new needs, both now and in the future. Research software therefore requires an environment that supports sustainability. Hence, a change is needed in the way research software development and maintenance are currently motivated, incentivized, funded, structurally and infrastructurally supported, and legally treated. Failing to do so will threaten the quality and validity of research. In this paper, we identify challenges for research software sustainability in Germany and beyond, in terms of motivation, selection, research software engineering personnel, funding, infrastructure, and legal aspects. Besides researchers, we specifically address political and academic decision-makers to increase awareness of the importance and needs of sustainable research software practices. In particular, we recommend strategies and measures to create an environment for sustainable research software, with the ultimate goal to ensure that software-driven research is valid, reproducible and sustainable, and that software is recognized as a first class citizen in research. This paper is the outcome of two workshops run in Germany in 2019, at deRSE19 - the first International Conference of Research Software Engineers in Germany - and a dedicated DFG-supported follow-up workshop in Berlin.
