In recent years, solar energy has become more and more popular because it is one of the renewable energy resources that are constantly replenished and will never run out. Nowadays, there are many solar panels that have been installed on the roof of residence in Taiwan. However, it does not have many convenient, secure and affordable methods to detect the effectiveness of those roof-top photovoltaic systems. Therefore, this study not only proposes the algorithms for determining the effectiveness of solar panel by using the thermal sensor, but also constructs a system to analysis the pictures that taken from thermal sensor and report the condition of solar panel automatically. Finally, we will live in a better environment by using the solar energy and the detection system with algorithms this study proposed at same time.

Graphene/silicon (G/Si) heterojunction based devices have been demonstrated as high responsivity photodetectors that are potentially compatible with semiconductor technology. Such G/Si Schottky junction diodes are typically in parallel with gated G/silicon dioxide (SiO2)/Si areas, where the graphene is contacted. Here, we utilize scanning photocurrent measurements to investigate the spatial distribution and explain the physical origin of photocurrent generation in these devices. We observe distinctly higher photocurrents underneath the isolating region of graphene on SiO2 adjacent to the Schottky junction of G/Si. A certain threshold voltage (VT) is required before this can be observed, and its origins are similar to that of the threshold voltage in metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors. A physical model serves to explain the large photocurrents underneath SiO2 by the formation of an inversion layer in Si. Our findings contribute to a basic understanding of graphene / semiconductor hybrid devices which, in turn, can help in designing efficient optoelectronic devices and systems based on such 2D/3D heterojunctions. In this paper, we analyze the important features for the difficult dataset to classify, comparing the process between human experts and computational method in order to built useful application on specific domain utilizing only computational techniques at practical level. To achieve this, “Doll” images dataset were constructed and the features were described in detail. After that, two types of experiments were carried out between human beginner participants and computational method. As a results, we obtained typical features of this dataset and discussed for applying the method to similar domains. In addition, the results suggest that it is efficient for classifying such a dataset to combine human experts knowledge and computational way.

To improve the quality of a machine translation system, it is useful to extract and store words and phrases which are salient in a domain and should be translated in a specific way. We tried several existing technologies for salient word extraction and compared their mechanisms and quality. Based on the comparison, we propose a new method which includes pre-processing of sentences in corpora and utilization of syntactic information. We evaluated the usefulness of our new method.

The purposes of this paper are to calculate exactly the mean thickness, plot the thickness maps, and depict the early treatment diabetic retinopathy study (ETDRS) charts for ten intra-retinal layers by spectral domain optical coherence tomography(OCT). Using our previously the reported segmented method with a simple linear iterative clustering (SLIC) super-pixels and manifold ranking (SLIC_MR), the ten intra-retinal layers were fast and exactly segmented in 3-D OCT dataset, includes 55 B-scan images from 11 different healthy adult subjects. By our definitions of the sensitivity and specificity, we compared the segmented results with the recent graph-based method for the main layers in dataset. The experimental results demonstrated that the SLIC_MR method outperformed the graph-based method. The thickness maps were plotted in the ten intra-retinal layers and the overall layer, the ETDRS charts were depicted in the 9 sectors of each intra-retinal layer and the overall layer, and the bar graph displayed the mean and standard deviation of macular thickness in 9 sectors for ten retinal layers and the overall layer. The mean thickness of the central foveal area displayed the minimum thickness in layers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the overall, and the maximum thickness in the central foveal area of the 6th layer. Both layers 4 and 5 have the similar mean thickness in each sector.

Modularity is widely-used objective function to detect communities and there are lots of algorithms based on modularity maximization. The leading eigenvector method is one of them where modularity is maximized by choosing the first eigenvector as partition result. To analyze in depth the information provided by other eigenvectors, modularity maximization could be transformed to vector partitioning problem. This paper proposes a method to find non-overlapping vertex vector sets so as to maximize the quadratic sum of norms of community vectors. We observe spatial distribution of the vertex vectors of networks and then discover two phenomenons. First, the vertex vectors belong to different communities are separated by an angle. Second, the node with a larger degree would correspond to a vertex vector with a larger norm. Based on these two phenomena, we design a heuristic community detection algorithm. When a network with weaker community structure, the over-partition problem is considered. The experiment results show that the proposed solution provides higher accuracy than other solutions.

In this paper, we build a sponsored search auction platform to simulate and analysis the auction result for auctioneers. We propose to use geometrically decreasing sequence to capture the click behavior of internet users. In our simulations, the results show that theoretical properties of the charging mechanisms are captured, and the proposed platform reflects the charging mechanism's property. Therefore, the auctioneer can use the proposed platform to simulate the auction and estimate the result in expectations.

While modern medicine is moving towards genetically based personalized treatment, we still marvel daily at the healing power of the therapeutic relationships with patients. We are now closer to understanding where in the brain lies our capacity to view the world from the perspective of other people. Empathy is the ability to identify another person’s feelings and experiences and to view the world from their perspective. In healthcare provider–patient interaction, empathy improves interpersonal communication, fosters therapeutic alliance, correlates with patient and provider satisfaction, and improves patient care outcomes. Although the importance of empathy in healthcare is widely accepted, further work is due in clarifying the dimensions of empathy that are amenable to teaching and defining the role of healthcare providers’ and patients’ perception of empathy in treatment outcomes. Herein we will (1) provide a brief overview of neurobiology of empathy, (2) discuss the dimensions and conceptualizations of empathy as they apply to healthcare professions, and (3) discuss the body of literature on empathy teaching interventions, including technology options, with focus on virtual patient technology for medical, nursing, and allied health professions education. © 2017, Springer International Publishing AG.
