Social media has not only reshaped the way people make decisions, but also changed the norms of how people interact with others. Due to the popularity of social media, social commerce is becoming a new form of e-commerce approaches. This study attempts to investigate what motivates individuals use of social commerce in the context of grocery retailing service based on the theoretical framework of the Uses and Gratifications theory. The empirical data was collected from a Finnish social commerce website offering a social media environment for social commerce in grocery services. Based on both survey data and clickstream data, we found that i) individuals are motivated to use social commerce in grocery retailing service mainly due to their utilitarian gratification in using it as social commerce platform can meet their functional needs;ii) social gratification plays weak role in determining social commerce in grocery retailing service as individuals has less social needs compared to their functional needs in social commerce;and iii) hedonic gratification might be a potential reason as the hedonic needs seems to be very weak. The functions (searching for products and recipes, compiling shopping lists and online shopping, etc.) offered by the social commerce services meet individuals functional needs, and motivate them to use social commerce. Finally the limitations of the current research are discussed, and the directions for further research are also suggested.

Mobile grid is a branch of grid computing that incorporates mobile devices into the grid infrastructure. It poses new challenges because mobile devices are typically resource-constrained and exhibit unique characteristics such as instability in network connections. New scheduling strate- gies are imperative in mobile grid to efficiently utilize the devices. This paper presents a scheduling algorithm that con- siders dynamic properties of mobile devices such as avail- ability, reliability, maintainability, and usage pattern in mo- bile grid environments. In particular, usage patterns caused by voluntarily or involuntarily losing a connection, such as switching off the device or a network interruption could be important criteria for choosing the best resource to execute a job. The experimental results show that our scheduling al- gorithm provides superior performance in terms of execution time, as compared to the other methods that do not consider usage pattern. Throughout the experiments, we found it es- sential to consider usage pattern for improving performance in the mobile grid.

Openness is the development trend of browser. This paper innovatively combined webpage with instant messaging in allusion to internet users' urgent desire of communicating webpage content with other users, and demand of more open webpage. It inserted instant messaging function in browser, which allowed ordinary users to be able to realize functions of adding, looking up, and entering chat rooms for any webpage, made users who were browsing the same URL and websites can communicate by entering the same chat room, so as to provide communicating site for users visiting the same website. This system conformed to the open development trend of internet, meanwhile, expanded the market of internet industry. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Large scale sketch-based 3D shape retrieval has received more and more attentions in the community of content-based 3D object retrieval. The objective of this track is to evaluate the performance of different sketch-based 3D model retrieval algorithms using a large scale hand-drawn sketch query dataset on a comprehensive 3D model dataset. The benchmark contains 12,680 sketches and 8,987 3D models, divided into 171 distinct classes. In this track, 12 runs were submitted by 4 groups and their retrieval performance was evaluated using 7 commonly used retrieval performance metrics. We hope that this benchmark, the comparative evaluation results and the corresponding evaluation code will further promote the progress of this research direction for the 3D model retrieval community. © The Eurographics Association 2014.

Web-based application delivery has many advantages in ubiquitous computing. Customizations of Web applications are required to support anytime/ anywhere/anymedia paradigm of ubiquitous computing. In this paper, we present a hierarchical customization method for ubiquitous Web applications. Contexts and namespaces for those contexts are hierarchically modeled in the method. Inheritance and polymorphism are applied to namespaces. Customizations for complex context hierarchies are supported by multilevel inheritance. Our implementation of the hierarchical customization method supports runtime customizations of ubiquitous Web applications for contexts. © 2014 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Slime mould Physarum polycephalum is a single cell that is visible by the unaided eye. When spanning sources of nutrients the slime mould builds a network of protoplasmic tubes which is sometimes considered to be optimal in terms of the minimization of metabolite transportation time and distance away from repellents. Previously we have shown that the slime mould is efficient in imitating the formation of man-made road networks in major countries, where major urban areas are sources of nutrients. We used a similar approach to grow slime mould on a three-dimensional template of the Moon to speculate on potential colonisation scenarios. The slime mould imitated the propagation of colonisation in an exploratory mode, i.e. without any definite targets. Additional transportation hubs/targets were added after the initial network was formed, to imitate the development of colonies in parallel with slime mould growth. We provide analyses of proximity graphs representing colonisation networks and support the findings with Physarum-inspired algorithms to inform supply chain design. We speculate on how living Physarum, or its incorporation into a polymer hybrid material, can be used as a wearable smart wetware based on laboratory experiments interacting with chemical components.

Sentiment Analysis is one of the significant issues in the area of natural language processing, computational linguistics and text mining. It has also become a potential research area in bibliographic search and opinion mining, which is our main focus in this paper. Sentiment analysis of citations on schema-based research contents, such as scientific articles and reports, may not only makes an appropriate understanding of the issue, but also enhances the level of reliability of citations in those contents. Taking the above points into account, in this paper, a framework for sentiment analysis based on lexica analysis is proposed to determine the polarity of author's opinion about citations in content. This framework consists of three major steps: subjectivity detection, polarity classification and strength determination of opinion. In each step, some considerations are considered to improve the capability of proposed framework. We have applied SentiWordNet, AFINN and Bingliu lexica sets for this purpose. The schema-based research contents that have been considered for this experiment is PubMed, which consists of open source medical articles of US digital library of medicine. Experimental results reveal the superiority of SentiWordNet lexica set compared to the other existing sets in sentiment analysis of PubMed articles.

Libraries at universities support their faculty, students and staff in their academic and research endeavors by providing easy access to a vast collection of printed and multimedia materials. The university library uses, in general, a library management system (LMS) that provides easy access to a countless array of resources both onsite as well as online users. At our university the library staff, in addition to standard library resources, also maintains a large collection of multimedia equipment and provides related services to library users. The multimedia services include recording of lectures, interviews, events, etc. under different settings as well as use of equipment and human resources. In current setup a request can be submitted, processed and managed manually by the library staff, whereas users demand a faster and a more efficient way of submitting multimedia requests as it would produce faster turnaround times for scheduled projects. Therefore, a group of students was assigned the task, as their capstone project, to evaluate, develop and deploy an automated system to handle the flood of multimedia requests being received by library staff. In this paper we report a capstone experience gained by undergraduate students. The students were required to design and implement a web based system for not only handling the requisitions for multimedia equipment and/or services but also the entire approval process until the multimedia project is complete. This paper reports the experience students had and shows utilization of the knowledge that they gained from programming, Human computer Interaction, System Analysis and Design and other similar courses during their program. © American Society for engineering Education, 2013.
