Through human-centered automation, the fusion of artificial intelligence (AI) and human expertise has enabled notable progress in decision optimization. This work examines the relationship between data science and human-AI cooperation, with a focus on improving decision-making across a range of fields. AI systems are capable of processing and interpreting enormous volumes of data, finding patterns and insights that may escape human analysts, by utilizing sophisticated machine learning algorithms and data analytics. But to refine these automated procedures and guarantee morally sound, transparent, and contextually appropriate results, human judgment must be incorporated. This paper explores methods for maximizing decision-making through the integration of human-centered and AI-driven automation. It presents case studies of how cooperation between humans and AI has enhanced productivity, accuracy, and adaptability in challenging decision-making situations. It also tackles issues like user trust, bias prevention, and the dynamic interaction between machine precision and human intuition. The outcomes address how critical it is to promote a mutually beneficial partnership between humans and AI, supporting systems that enhance human skills while upholding diversity and responsibility. This study adds to the continuing conversation about the nature of employment in the future by putting forth a well-balanced paradigm in which AI efficiencies and human insights work together to produce the best possible decisions. © 2024 IEEE.

The identification capacity region of the compound broadcast channel is determined under an average error criterion, where the sender has no channel state information. We give single-letter identification capacity formulas for discrete channels and multiple-input multiple-output Gaussian channels under an average input constraint. The capacity theorems apply to general discrete memoryless broadcast channels. This is in contrast to the transmission setting, where the capacity is only known for special cases, notably the degraded broadcast channel and the multipleinput multiple-output broadcast channel with private messages. Furthermore, the identification capacity region of the compound multiple-input multiple-output broadcast channel can be larger than the transmission capacity region. This is a departure from the single-user behavior of identification, since the identification capacity of a single-user channel equals the transmission capacity. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

We performed machine learning using spectrum analysis and power spectra of electroencephalograms (EEGs) of patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Spectrum analysis was performed on the EEGs of MCI patients and healthy individuals, and the power spectrum values of the two groups were calculated and compared. Based on the power spectrum values of the theta and alpha bands, models for discriminating MCI patients were created using a support vector machine (SVM), and their accuracies were compared. In the spectrum analysis, the theta band showed significantly higher power spectrum values in the MCI group. In the comparison of the accuracies of SVM models, the model using the theta band showed higher values in parameters, such as accuracy rate. These results suggested that the power spectrum values of the theta band are useful for discriminating MCI patients. © 2024 IEEE.

Group communication plays a vital role in our interconnected society, facilitating efficient and secure data exchange among multiple endpoints. The issue pertains to the intricate nature that emerges within the limited settings of the Internet of Things and sensor networks. GKM plays a crucial role in maintaining security in group communication schemes. Existing GKM schemes commonly rely on public-key cryptography, which may be susceptible to potential threats posed by quantum computers. This study investigated the usage of post-quantum GKM schemes in the realm of IoTs. To enhance communication security and efficiency in the era of quantum computing, we made significant progress in implementing a post-quantum GKM scheme. Specifically, we have chosen the SABER Key Encapsulation Mechanism, which is one of the four finalists in the National Institute for Standards and technology (NIST) process. We also present preliminary simulation results for our scheme. © 2023 IEEE.

Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection recently has drawn attention due to its critical role in the safe deployment of modern neural network architectures in real-world applications. The OOD detectors aim to distinguish samples that lie outside the training distribution in order to avoid the overconfident predictions of machine learning models on OOD data. Existing detectors, which mainly rely on the logit, intermediate feature space, softmax score, or reconstruction loss, manage to produce promising results. However, most of these methods are developed for the image domain. In this study, we propose a novel reconstruction-based OOD detector to operate on the radar domain. Our method exploits an autoencoder (AE) and its latent representation to detect the OOD samples. We propose two scores incorporating the patch-based reconstruction loss and the energy value calculated from the latent representations of each patch. We achieve an AUROC of 90.72% on our dataset collected by using 60 GHz short-range FMCW Radar. The experiments demonstrate that, in terms of AUROC and AUPR, our method outperforms the baseline (AE) and the other state-of-the-art methods. Also, thanks to its model size of 641 kB, our detector is suitable for embedded usage.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly developing in diverse and critical applications such as environmental sensing and industrial control systems. IoT devices can be very heterogeneous in terms of hardware and software architectures, communication protocols, and/or manufacturers. Therefore, when those devices are connected together to build a complex system, detecting and fixing any anomalies can be very challenging. In this paper, we explore a relatively novel technique known as Process Mining, which—in combination with log-file analytics and machine learning—can support early diagnosis, prognosis, and subsequent automated repair to improve the resilience of IoT devices within possibly complex cyber-physical systems. Issues addressed in this paper include generation of consistent Event Logs and definition of a roadmap toward effective Process Discovery and Conformance Checking to support Self-Healing in IoT. © 2022, The Author(s).

Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection has recently received special attention due to its critical role in safely deploying modern deep learning (DL) architectures. This work proposes a reconstruction-based multi-class OOD detector that operates on radar range doppler images (RDIs). The detector aims to classify any moving object other than a person sitting, standing, or walking as OOD. We also provide a simple yet effective pre-processing technique to detect minor human body movements like breathing. The simple idea is called respiration detector (RESPD) and eases the OOD detection, especially for human sitting and standing classes. On our dataset collected by 60GHz short-range FMCW Radar, we achieve AUROCs of 97.45%, 92.13%, and 96.58% for sitting, standing, and walking classes, respectively. We perform extensive experiments and show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) OOD detection methods. Also, our pipeline performs 24 times faster than the second-best method and is very suitable for real-time processing.
