Performance Analysis of OMA/NOMA-aided Satellite Communication Networks: A Stochastic Geometry Approach

The increasing quality of service requirements and demand for satellite services necessitate higher data rates, spectral efficiency, and stability in satellite communication networks. Therefore, this paper investigates the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) assisted satellite communication networks, where multiple users are uniformly distributed over a spherical hat according to the homogeneous Poisson point process (HPPP). Based on the characteristics of HPPP, we analyze the distance distributions of users. To evaluate the performance of the proposed networks, we first derive the closed-form expressions and approximated expressions of the outage probability (OP) for paired NOMA users. To obtain more insights into the proposed networks, the ergodic rate and diversity orders for paired NOMA users are also derived. Spectral efficiency is derived for NOMA and orthogonal multiple access (OMA) assisted satellite communication networks. Our analytical results demonstrate that the diversity order of the proposed networks is all one. Numerical results confirm that: 1) compared to OMA, the proposed NOMA-assisted satellite network demonstrates superior outage performance and spectral efficiency, especially in the higher power regimes;2) fading factors have negligible effects on OP and spectral efficiency;and 3) under certain target rates for both near and far users, the outage performance of far users in NOMA-assisted satellite communication networks is superior to that of near users. © 2024 Institute of electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. Furthermore, this study proposes an innovative open-set fruit detection system leveraging advanced Vision Foundation Models (VFMs) for fruit detection that can adeptly identify a wide array of fruit types under varying orchard conditions. This system not only demonstrates remarkable adaptability in learning from minimal data through few-shot learning but also shows the ability to interpret human instructions for subtle detection tasks. The performance of the developed foundation model is comprehensively evaluated using several metrics, which outperforms the existing state-of-the-art algorithms in both our MetaFruit dataset and other open-sourced fruit datasets, thereby setting a new benchmark in the field of agricultural technology and robotic harvesting. This paper considers the distributed bandit convex optimization problem with time-varying inequality constraints over a network of agents, where the goal is to minimize network regret and cumulative constraint violation. Existing distributed online algorithms require that each agent broadcasts its decision to its neighbors at each iteration. To better utilize the limited communication resources, we propose a distributed event-triggered online primal-dual algorithm with two-point bandit feedback. Under several classes of appropriately chosen decreasing parameter sequences and non-increasing event-triggered threshold sequences, we establish dynamic network regret and network cumulative constraint violation bounds. These bounds are comparable to the results achieved by distributed event-triggered online algorithms with full-information feedback. Deep Neural Network Architecture Search for Accurate Visual Pose Estimation aboard Nano-UAVs

Miniaturized autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are an emerging and trending topic. With their form factor as big as the palm of one hand, they can reach spots otherwise inaccessible to bigger robots and safely operate in human surroundings. The simple electronics aboard such robots (sub-100 mW) make them particularly cheap and attractive but pose significant challenges in enabling onboard sophisticated intelligence. In this work, we leverage a novel neural architecture search (NAS) technique to automatically identify several Pareto-optimal convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for a visual pose estimation task. Our work demonstrates how real-life and field-tested robotics applications can concretely leverage NAS technologies to automatically and efficiently optimize CNNs for the specific hardware constraints of small UAVs. We deploy several NAS-optimized CNNs and run them in closed-loop aboard a 27-g Crazyflie nano-UAV equipped with a parallel ultra-low power System-on-Chip. Our results improve the State-of-the-Art by reducing the in-field control error of 32% while achieving a real-time onboard inference-rate of ∼10 Hz@10 mW and ∼50 Hz@90 mW. Submodularity-based False Data Injection Attack Scheme in Multi-agent Dynamical systems

Consensus in multi-agent dynamical systems is prone to be sabotaged by the adversary, which has attracted much attention due to its key role in broad applications. In this paper, we study a new false data injection (FDI) attack design problem, where the adversary with limited capability aims to select a subset of agents and manipulate their local multi-dimensional states to maximize the consensus convergence error. We first formulate the FDI attack design problem as a combinatorial optimization problem and prove it is NP-hard. Then, based on the submodularity optimization theory, we show the convergence error is a submodular function of the set of the compromised agents, which satisfies the property of diminishing marginal returns. In other words, the benefit of adding an extra agent to the compromised set decreases as that set becomes larger. With this property, we exploit the greedy scheme to find the optimal compromised agent set that can produce the maximum convergence error when adding one extra agent to that set each time. Thus, the FDI attack set selection algorithms are developed to obtain the near-optimal subset of the compromised agents. Furthermore, we derive the analytical suboptimality bounds and the worst-case running time under the proposed algorithms. Generative AI (GAI) can enhance the cognitive, reasoning, and planning capabilities of intelligent modules in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) by synthesizing augmented datasets, completing sensor data, and making sequential decisions. In addition, the mixture of experts (MoE) can enable the distributed and collaborative execution of AI models without performance degradation between connected vehicles. In this survey, we explore the integration of MoE and GAI to enable Artificial General Intelligence in IoV, which can enable the realization of full autonomy for IoV with minimal human supervision and applicability in a wide range of mobility scenarios, including environment monitoring, traffic management, and autonomous driving. In particular, we present the fundamentals of GAI, MoE, and their interplay applications in IoV. Furthermore, we discuss the potential integration of MoE and GAI in IoV, including distributed perception and monitoring, collaborative decision-making and planning, and generative modeling and simulation. This manuscript introduces an innovative Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) strategy to improve the efficiency of Wind Energy Conversion systems (WECS) equipped with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSG) under variable wind conditions. The proposed approach integrates Active Disturbance Rejection control (ADRC) with the Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm, effectively addressing challenges such as external disturbances and fluctuating wind environments. By combining ADRC with P&O control, the system achieves enhanced tracking performance and *** validate the added value of this approach, we compare it with a traditional P&O strategy combined with Proportional Integral (PI) control. For the PI-based method, controller parameters Kp and Ki are optimized using Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) to enhance control precision. The Integrated Time Absolute Error (ITAE) objective function is employed to fine-tune these parameters, further optimizing system performance. Our analysis underscores the superiority of ADRC in disturbance rejection and quick adaptability over the PI *** proposed strategy is tested under two distinct wind speed profiles—constant and fluctuating—through time-domain simulations in MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results confirm the superior performance of the ADRC-P&O method, highlighting its effectiveness in maximizing power extraction from wind energy and proving its potential for real-world applications. This study offers a significant advancement in wind energy technology by providing a robust and efficient solution for MPPT in WECS. © 2024

Recognizing fault types of machinery system is a fundamental but challenging task in industrial application. Although data-driven fault diagnosis method attains remarkable progress by learning fault features automatically, the existing data-driven fault diagnosis pipelines learn non-discriminative feature. To deal with these problems, a new data-driven fault diagnosis method with recurrent attentional module is proposed to find a sequence of informative features by localizing distinguishing time fragments about each individual faults iteratively. The contextual sequence dependency between the localized time fragments is enhanced. Then, the fault types are further predicted on localized time fragments. The proposed framework also explicitly models long-term dependencies among these attentional time fragments to capture historical fault information. Experiments on hydraulic system show that the proposed framework achieves superior diagnosis performance and computation efficiency.

Current differential protection is a widely adopted and effective high-voltage AC transmission line protection scheme. The long distance of the transmission line determines that the distributed parameters and corresponding capacitive currents are not negligible. In fact, the physical laws of a distributed parameter transmission line can be expressed as a set of partial differential equations (PDEs). In this paper, a time-domain current differential protection method based on two-terminal electrical quantities and the PDE line model is proposed. The method does not depend on the power frequency phasors, can accurately compensate line capacitive current, and can effectively improve the protection speed and sensitivity. Numerical experiments validate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method. Additionally, the proposed method demonstrates satisfactory real-time performance under relatively low sampling rates (4k Hz).
