Indonesia had been suffered by earthquake and tsunami for many centuries. Since many lives have taken by tsunami strikes, alert and response system are very important as important part of Disaster Risk Reduction, especially in area with high population density. This research conducted in Kangkung fishing village in Bandar Lampung coastal area which is an earthquake and tsunami prone area. The aim of the research is to study alert and response of Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction. The research conducted by qualitative method and purposive-descriptive approach. There were 53 respondents which participated in the survey and interview. It is reported that "Smart Resilient City"model suitable for community needs of alert and response of earthquake and tsunami disaster. This research meets conclusion that "Smart Resilient City"model may become a great solution in Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction to cope with the hazard of earthquake and tsunami comprehensively and sustainably. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper aims to analyze what was accomplished by the Brazilian academy concerning the environmental impact of the built buildings of the housing program Minha Casa Minha Vida (PMCMV), during its 10 years of implementation. Twelve master's dissertations and 8 doctoral theses from the engineering and architecture areas were analyzed, seeking to understand the panorama of the buildings concerning the areas of sustainability, construction performance, and levels of energy efficiency. As a result of the analysis of the 20 selected studies, it was possible to verify the low architectural and constructive quality of the model executed throughout Brazil, as well as the great importance of reevaluating the bases of the program, adjusting its parameters to more sustainable initiatives. © PLEA 2020 - 35th PLEA Conference on Passive and Low Energy Architecture Planning Post Carbon Cities, Proceedings.

Understanding how the granulometric composition affects the mechanic and hydraulic properties of the pervious concrete mixtures is crucial since the response of mix design methods may vary according to the locally available materials. Thus, this paper investigates how different granulometric compositions may influence the performance of pervious concrete mixtures designed by the well-recognized paste-thickness-based method. The effects on mechanical properties, hydraulic conductivity, pore distribution, resistance to degradation, packing density, and the use of superplasticizers were investigated. The granulometric composition significantly influenced the pervious concrete mixtures properties, indicating that the paste-thickness-based method response depends on the coarse aggregate particle size distribution. Larger aggregate sizes resulted in fewer but larger pores. The aggregate size ratio influenced the functionality of the pervious concrete due to the smaller aggregates that probably filled the voids left by the larger ones, reducing the porosity and, consequently, the permeability of the mixtures. Uniform granulometry (single-sized grain) prevents the granular packing and increases air voids' size and quantity, unlike continuous granulometry. The binder drainage test performed in the mixtures with superplasticizer resulted in lower w/c ratios and higher cement consumption with possible non-hydrated cement particles. © 2022, The Authors. This study aims to understand the willingness of urban communities in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi) to move to apartment dwellings, and a study was conducted using a quantitative survey method. The study aimed to analyze the sociodemographic factors influencing the decision to switch to vertical housing. The survey collected data from a sample of individuals representing the entire population in Jabodetabek. The participants in the study were selected from various locations within Jabodetabek, including Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi. These areas were chosen to comprehensively represent the metropolitan region and its urban communities. By including participants from different locations within Jabodetabek, the study aimed to capture individuals' diverse perspectives and experiences in this region. The survey covered a range of sociodemographic factors such as gender, income, education level, marital status, occupancy, and residence ownership. The participants were divided into two groups: those willing to pay for an apartment and those who wereilling to pay for an apartment and those not. By comparing the characteristics of these two groups, the study aimed to identify significant differences and understand the factors influencing the willingness to move to apartment dwellings. The study results showed significant differences in income level, education level, marital status, and occupancy between the two groups. Income level was the most significant factor affecting an individual's willingness to pay for an apartment. Additionally, the perception of better apartment productivity, which includes reduced transportation time and costs associated with work or other business purposes, increased the demand for apartments. The ASTM standard recommends that the 16 most common types of PAHs are found in petroleum processing activities, the chemical industry and marine loading ports. This research aims to identify and determine the distribution of PAHs contaminants at three sampling points of seawater around Paotere Port, Makassar, South Sulawesi, using the GC-MS instrument. Sampling point A is the center of Paotere Port activity, Point B with a radius of 3 km and point C with a radius of 6 km from the center of port activity. Sampling at each point was carry out at a depth of 100 cm above sea level. There are 10 PAHs identified at sampling point A and B, while at point C there are 8 components with relatively the same type of PAHs. The dominant PAHs components at each sampling point are relatively the same, namely at point A: Pyrene, Chrysene, Benz[a]pyrene and Dibenz(a,h)anthracene, point B: Pyrene, Chrysene and Benz(a)anthtracene, while at point C only Pyrene. The total concentration of PAHs at point A: 4,217 .106 ppm, medium polluted category, at point B: 2,124 .087 ppm, medium polluted category and at point C: 1,264 . 112 ppm, light polluted category. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Purple sulfur bacteria (PSB) are capable of anoxygenic photosynthesis via oxidizing reduced sulfur compounds and are considered key drivers of the sulfur cycle in a range of anoxic environments. In this study, we show that Allochromatium vinosum (a PSB species) is capable of autotrophic growth using pyrite as the electron and sulfur source. Comparative growth profile, substrate characterization, and transcriptomic sequencing data provided valuable insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying the bacterial utilization of pyrite and autotrophic growth. Specifically, the pyrite-supported cell cultures (“py”’) demonstrated robust but much slower growth rates and distinct patterns from their sodium sulfide-amended positive controls. Up to ~200-fold upregulation of genes encoding various c- and b-type cytochromes was observed in “py,” pointing to the high relevance of these molecules in scavenging and relaying electrons from pyrite to cytoplasmic metabolisms. Conversely, extensive downregulation of genes related to LH and RC complex components indicates that the electron source may have direct control over the bacterial cells’ photosynthetic activity. In terms of sulfur metabolism, genes encoding periplasmic or membrane-bound proteins (e.g., FccAB and SoxYZ) were largely upregulated, whereas those encoding cytoplasmic proteins (e.g., Dsr and Apr groups) are extensively suppressed. Other notable differentially expressed genes are related to flagella/fimbriae/pilin(+), metal efflux(+), ferrienterochelin(−), and [NiFe] hydrogenases(+). Characterization of the biologically reacted pyrite indicates the presence of polymeric sulfur. These results have, for the first time, put the interplay of PSB and transition metal sulfide chemistry under the spotlight, with the potential to advance multiple fields, including metal and sulfur biogeochemistry, bacterial extracellular electron transfer, and artificial photosynthesis.

Gajahmada Street is one of the main streets in the city of Semarang. The location is very strategic, which connects the Golden Triangle Region in Semarang City which is the center of the city. As a city center, transportation activities in the area are very high. Transportation activities produce carbon dioxide emissions. The accumulation of carbon dioxide emissions is dangerous for health and the environment. Semarang City Government provides green open space along the road section to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The purpose of this study was to determine the vegetation resilience to absorbing carbon dioxide at that location. The data collection method uses literature collection and field observations. The results showed the ability of green open space to absorb carbon dioxide emissions is 1.218,7 tons/ha/year. While the emissions produced are 6.832 tons/year, meaning that there is residual carbon dioxide that is not absorbed, that is 5.613,3 tons/year. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2020.

Gumelem village is one of the slums in the Pemalang Regency, Central Java Province. The area has characteristics such as high population density, the narrowness of the neighborhood road, the location of houses that coincide, the narrow house, and the house is inhabited by several families and does not have a private toilet. The formation of slums is an obstacle in regional development;for this, it is necessary to arrange the area. This study uses the Participatory Research Appraisal (PRA) method to ensure the active involvement of the target group community and place the community as a subject in the activation process. The research results show that social strengthening efforts in the community and government agencies in the management of the slum areas of Gumelem are essential to realizing the success of the slum structuring program. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2020.

The waste bank is an alternative waste management in Indonesia. The waste Bank in Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta is one of the waste banks that has been established and is active until now. The method used to determine the generation and composition of waste is SNI 19-3964-1994. In addition, research data are obtained by observing and interviewing directly in the field, then analyzed by quantitative descriptive. The results showed the average rate of waste generation in Gunung Kidul Regency was 0.48 kg / person / day. The highest composition of waste in Gunung Kidul Regency is organic waste, which is 77.61%, while non-organic waste is 22.39%. At present, the Waste Bank in Gunung Kidul Regency is able to reduce waste by 0.86% with a total of 6,423 m3 / year reduced waste. The benefits of the existence of a waste bank, among others, are in the field of waste management, in terms of economic and social aspects. The potential for waste recycling is 17.49% from 22.39% of the total non-organic waste. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2020.
