We propose an input/output conformance testing theory utilizing Modal Interface Automata with Input Refusals (IR-MIA) as novel behavioral formalism for both the specification and the implementation under test. A modal refinement relation on IR-MIA allows distinguishing between obligatory and allowed output behaviors, as well as between implicitly underspecified and explicitly forbidden input behaviors. The theory therefore supports positive and negative conformance testing with optimistic and pessimistic environmental assumptions. We further show that the resulting conformance relation on IR-MIA, called modal-irioco, enjoys many desirable properties concerning component-based behaviors. First, modal-irioco is preserved under modal refinement and constitutes a preorder under certain restrictions which can be ensured by a canonical input completion for IR-MIA. Second, under the same restrictions, modal-irioco is compositional with respect to parallel composition of IR-MIA with multi-cast and hiding. Finally, the quotient operator on IR-MIA, as the inverse to parallel composition, facilitates decompositionality in conformance testing to solve the unknown-component problem.

This paper describes the development of a query compiler for the PostgreSQL DBMS based on automatic code specialization methods;these methods allow one to avoid the development and support difficulties typical for classical query compilers by dividing the compiler development problem into two independent subproblems: reduction of overhead costs and implementation of algorithmic improvements. We assert that this decomposition facilitates the solution of both the subproblems: the cost reduction can be automated, while the algorithmic improvements can be implemented in the interpreter in the DBMS implementation language. This paper presents methods for online and offline specialization, considers specifics of specialization and binding-time analysis of the PostgreSQL source code, and describes the transition to a push model of execution.

The paper, basing on analysis of the Monte-Carlo Tree Search (MCTS) method and specific features of its behavior for various cases of usage, proposes a new variant of the method, which was called as Monte-Carlo Tree Search with Tree Shape Control (MCTS-TSC) and which uses original Depth-Width Criteria (DWCs) for both tree shape estimation and control during search and for estimation and selection of potentially better options for search continuation. Proposed Tree Shape Control (TSC) technique can be used with some other tuning, pruning, and learning techniques. Besides, it can provide better scheduling of MCTS parallelization.

The human transcriptome contains many types of noncoding RNAs, which rival the number of protein-coding species. From long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) that are over 200 nucleotides long to piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) of only 20 nucleotides, noncoding RNAs play important roles in regulating transcription, epigenetic modifications, translation, and cell signaling. Roles for noncoding RNAs in disease mechanisms are also being uncovered, and several species have been identified as potential drug targets. On May 11-14, 2021, the Keystone eSymposium "Noncoding RNAs: Biology and Applications" brought together researchers working in RNA biology, structure, and technologies to accelerate both the understanding of RNA basic biology and the translation of those findings into clinical applications.

Software Defined Networks (SDNs) and corresponding platforms are expected to be widely used in future generation networks and especially deployed and activated on-demand as agile networking control service components. The correct functioning of SDN platforms must be assured, i.e., such platforms should be thoroughly tested before deployment. After thorough verification of SDN controllers and switches, the composition of them still requires additional testing in order to guarantee the absence of critical faults. We propose a model based testing technique for checking SDN platforms that relies on appropriate graph enumeration. In particular, we define a fault model where the fault domain contains the wrongly and correctly implemented paths allowed with respect to the underlying resource connectivity graph. We also establish the conditions for deriving a complete test suite with respect to such fault model under black box and white box testing assumptions.

Cloud data storages are functioning in the presence of the risks of confidentiality, integrity, and availability related with the loss of information, denial of access for a long time, information leakage, conspiracy and technical failures. In this paper, we provide analysis of reliable, scalable, and confidential distributed data storage based on Multilevel Residue Number system (RNS) and Mignotte secret sharing scheme. We use real cloud providers and estimate characteristics such as the data redundancy, speed of data encoding, and decoding to cope with different user preferences. The analysis shows that the proposed storage scheme increases safety and reliability of traditional approaches and reduces data storage overheads by appropriate selection of RNS parameters.

Using static symbolic execution to detect buffer overflows

Buffer overrun remains one of the main sources of errors and vulnerabilities in the C/C++ source code. To detect such kind of defects, static analysis is widely used. In this paper, we propose a path-sensitive static analysis based on symbolic execution with state merging. For buffers with compile-time-known sizes, we present an interprocedural path- and context-sensitive overrun detection algorithm that finds program points satisfying a proposed error definition. The described approach was implemented in the Svace static analyzer without significant loss of performance. On Android 5.0.2, these detectors generated 351 warnings, 64% of which were true positives. In addition, we describe a prototype of an intraprocedural heap buffer overflow detector and present an example of a defect found by this detector.

Embedded devices may be significantly constrained in main memory, storage and CPU loads they can accommodate. The smaller the program, the faster it is loaded into memory. The smaller the system image, the cheaper can be production of the device. There are two ways to approach system image minification. The first way is to carefully write software adding no unnecessary parts from the start. The second way is to use existing software with unnecessary parts removed. In this work we implement the latter approach. Our work is concerned with eliminating unused code and data from dynamically linked programs;for statically linked programs, simple linker analysis is sufficient and has already been implemented.

Software Defined Networking (SDN) platforms are used in many applications and thus, should be thoroughly verified and tested before deployment;there are a number of research papers proposing various approaches for their verification. The next step is to test whether all the items are proceeding properly, i.e., to test the platform. As the requests can be considered as sets of paths which have to be properly implemented, the inputs of the system Under Test (SUT) are appropriate graphs (and packets traversing those graphs) while the output that can also be considered as a set of paths with appropriate parameters, is obtained via the appropriate platform monitoring. Correspondingly, for testing, we use a so-called proactive approach: check a submitted set of paths after forwarding a packet with appropriate parameters. We define several fault models (under different testing assumptions) with respect to the underlying resource connectivity graph (RNCT). Some conditions for deriving a complete test suite as well as the complexity upper bounds with respect to defined fault models are also established.
