Correct design, and system-level dependability prediction of highly-integrated systems demand the collocation of requirements and architectural artifacts within an integrated development environment. Hybrid systems, having dependencies and extensive interactions between their control portion and their environment, further intensify this need. AADL is a model-based engineering language for the architectural design and analysis of embedded control systems. Core AADL has been extended with a mechanism for discrete behavioral modeling and analysis of control systems, but not for the continuous behavior of the physical environment. In this paper, we introduce a lightweight language extension to AADL called the Hybrid Annex for continuoustime modeling, fulfilling the need for integrated modeling of the computing system along with its physical environment in their respective domains. The Isolette system described in the FAA Requirement Engineering Management Handbook is used to illustrate continuous behavior modeling with the proposed Hybrid Annex. Copyright 2014 ACM.

With the widespread proliferation of social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter, the CSCW community has seen a growing interest among researchers to turn to records of social behavior from blogs, social media, and social networking sites, to study human social behavior. This nascent area, that has begun to be referred to in various research circles as "computational social science", provides an exciting and promising development in the CSCW community. This panel brings together a host of researchers with varied disciplinary perspectives to investigate the potential and current state-of-the-art, as well as forthcoming challenges, practical and methodological issues that engender this emerging topic.

e-ASTROGAM ('enhanced ASTROGAM') is a breakthrough Observatory space mission, with a detector composed by a Silicon tracker, a calorimeter, and an anticoincidence system, dedicated to the study of the non-thermal Universe in the photon energy range from 0.3 MeV to 3 GeV - the lower energy limit can be pushed to energies as low as 150 keV for the tracker, and to 30 keV for calorimetric detection. The mission is based on an advanced space-proven detector technology, with unprecedented sensitivity, angular and energy resolution, combined with polarimetric capability. Thanks to its performance in the MeV-GeV domain, substantially improving its predecessors, e-ASTROGAM will open a new window on the non-thermal Universe, making pioneering observations of the most powerful Galactic and extragalactic sources, elucidating the nature of their relativistic outflows and their effects on the surroundings. With a line sensitivity in the MeV energy range one to two orders of magnitude better than previous generation inst.uments, e-ASTROGAM will determine the origin of key isotopes fundamental for the understanding of supernova explosion and the chemical evolution of our Galaxy. The mission will provide unique data of significant interest to a broad astronomical community, complementary to powerful observatories such as LIGO-Virgo-GEO600-KAGRA, SKA, ALMA, E-ELT, TMT, LSST, JWST, Athena, CTA, IceCube, KM3NeT, and LISA. We initiate the study of a new parameterization of graph problems. In a multiple interval representation of a graph, each vertex is associated to at least one interval of the real line, with an edge between two vertices if and only if an interval associated to one vertex has a nonempty intersection with an interval associated to the other vertex. A graph on n vertices is a κ-gap interval graph if it has a multiple interval representation with at most n + κ intervals in total. In order to scale up the nice algorithmic properties of interval graphs (where κ = 0), we parameterize graph problems by κ, and find FPT algorithms for several problems, including Feedback Vertex Set, Dominating Set, Independent Set, Clique, Clique Cover, and Multiple Interval Transversal. The Coloring problem turns out to be [1]-hard and we design an XP algorithm for the recognition problem. © 2012 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

To achieve higher scalability of parallel programs on large scale parallel computers, reducing the time spent for collective communications is one of the most important issue. In this paper, a dynamic optimization method to adjust the implementation of Broadcast operation, one of the most popular collective communications, is *** there have been many attempts to speed up this operation, they assume that each rank starts this operation at the same time. However, in real execution, the time can be different because of load-imbalance among ranks. This paper first claims that this difference can cause increase of the cost for this operation. Then, as a method to avoid this problem, an optimization method that adjusts the order of point-to-point messages in Broadcast operations is introduced. This method uses the wait time of each rank at the operation to determine the status of *** the results of experiments, it is shown that this optimization method can reduced the time for the *** addition to that, it is also shown that the effect of the optimization depends on the size of data to be broadcasted and the amount of load-imbalance.

Fingerprints are useful for biometric purposes because of their well known properties of distinctiveness and persistence over time. However, owing to skin conditions or incorrect finger pressure, original fingerprint images always contain noise. Especially, some of them contain useless components, which are often mistaken for the terminations that are an essential minutia of a fingerprint. Mathematical Morphology (MM) is a powerful tool in image processing. In this paper, we propose a linear time algorithm to eliminate impulsive noise and useless components, which employs generalized and ordinary morphological operators based on Euclidean distance transform. There are two contributions. The first is the simple and efficient MM method to eliminate impulsive noise, which can be restricted to a minimum number of pixels. We know the performance of MM is heavily dependent on structuring elements (SEs), but finding an optimal SE is a difficult and nontrivial task. So the second contribution is providing an automatic approach without any experiential parameter for choosing appropriate SEs to eliminate useless components. We have developed a novel algorithm for the binarization of fingerprint images [1]. The information of distance transform values can be obtained directly from the binarization phase. The results show that using this method on fingerprint images with impulsive noise and useless components is faster than existing denoising methods and achieves better quality than earlier methods.
