The research on isoparametric elements makes significant sense in the development of finite element method. A concise formulation of multivariable isoparametric elements was presented based on the rational principle of residual approach and the systematic method of constructing multivariable finite elements suggested by Shi Baojun. Then two concise and efficient plane four-node multivariable isoparametric elements MQ4 and MQ5 were constructed by this formulation. The former, i.e. element MQ4, does not contain the internal degree of freedom. The later, i.e. element MQ5, contains one internal degree of freedom. The performances of the elements were examined by some typical numerical examples. Their numerical results were comp.red with those of other typical conforming and nonconforming isoparametric elements. The numerical results show that the multivariable isoparametric elements can pass the patch test requirements and also possess high performance either in regular mesh or in irregular mesh.

Rough set theory is a new mathematical tool to deal with vagueness and uncertainty. It has received considerable attention and has been applied in a variety of areas in recent years. In this paper, rough set theory is applied to clustering analysis in knowledge discovery. A lot of definitions such as the local indiscernibility relation, the local and total indiscernibility degree between two objects, the indiscernibility degree between two clusters and the integrated approximation rate of the clustering result are given. Based on these definitions, a rough set based hierarchical clustering algorithm is proposed. It can automatically adjust the parameter in order to get the more optimum result. Some experiments are made on the data sets in UCI (University of California, Irvine) machine learning repository. The experimental results show that the algorithm is feasible and has good clustering performance especially for symbolic attributes.

The weld seam checking and tracking and the relationship between GMR sensor and geomagnetic field are studied. The altitude problem of welding-gun tracking is analyzed for the GMR sensors by the theories of the geomagnetic field. The experimental results show that the altitude change of welding-gun tracking amounts to 5%, nearly 0.3 mm, under conditions of magnetic shield and non-shield for the GMR, and vertical distance of 5.0 mm between welding torch and work-piece, and Z comp.nent of the geomagnetic field is 26971 nT. The difference between Guilin and Mangui is above 5.5%, that to say, more than 0.3 mm, because of the differences of the geomagnetic field in the two situations. Therefore it proved that the sensors of height tracing of the welding torch is influenced evidently. To decrease the difference, the principle of the magnetic field comp.nsation of the magnetic exploration is applied, and the anticipated results are gained. So a new method is added to the non-contact welding.

This paper presents a research on the theoretical issue of optimal set of statistically uncorrelated discriminant vectors. First, the criterion of the generalized optimal set of statistically uncorrelated discriminant vectors is proposed, then a theoretical result on the generalized optimal set of statistically uncorrelated discriminant vectors is obtained. The research result indicates that the formula of the generalized optimal set of statistically uncorrelated discriminant vectors is the same as that of the conventional optimal set of statistically uncorrelated discriminant vectors, however, which was not realized. The research enriches the theory of feature extraction based on the statistically uncorrelated discriminant analysis.

Multi-objective genetic algorithm based on Pareto optimum is much suitable for solving multi-objective optimization problems. The relations between individuals and some features about these relations are discussed. It is proved that the individuals of an evolutionary population can be classified by the idea of quick sort. At the same time, the approach to maintain diversity of solutions by clustering algorithms is discussed, and the clustering algorithm based on hierarchical aggregation is also discussed. Then by using the quick sort algorithm and the clustering procedure, an algorithm of constructing a new evolutionary population is proposed. It is shown by theoretic analysis and experimental results that the convergent speed of the algorithm discussed is more efficient than the other existing algorithms.

Based on the directionality of images and combining the direction information with multiple resolution analysis, a fusion idea based on directional filter banks is presented. Combining with Laplacian Pyramid analysis further, an image fusion method based on laplacian pyramid directional filter banks (LPDFB) is given. Experimental results prove its feasibility and validity.
