3D human facial model reconstruction is essential to generation of facial animations that is widely used in the field of virtual reality. The main issues of 3D facial model reconstruction based on images are in twofold: one is to track the features of face automatically and the other is to get the realistic-looking human face model. In this paper, we introduce a method on structure from motion. First the accurate corner matches can be acquired by integrating modified image pyramid Lucas-Kanade algorithm and local adjustment algorithm, then a realistic-looking model is generated by camera calibration, motion analysis and texture mapping. Experimental results demonstrate, the high accuracy of the corner matching algorithm and the vividness of the facial model.

Existing fast block motion estimation algorithms, which try to reduce the number of search points, utilize the motion vector (MV) characteristics of high spatial correlation as well as center-biased distribution, in predicting an initial MV. Even though they provide good performance for slow motion sequences, they suffer from poor accuracy for fast or comp.ex motion sequences. In this paper, we propose a new fast and efficient block motion estimation algorithm. The proposed algorithm utilizes a new predictor obtained from one-dimensional feature matching based on selective integral projections. This low comp.exity procedure enables the selection of a better initial search point so that a simple gradient descent search near this point may be enough to find the global minimum point. comp.red with recent fast search algorithms, the proposed algorithm has lower comp.tational comp.exity and provides better prediction performance, especially for fast or comp.ex motion sequences.

Steerable microphone arrays provide a flexible infrastructure for audio source separation. In order for them to be used effectively in intelligent environments, there must be a mechanism in place for steering the focus of the array to the sound source. Audio-only steering techniques often perform poorly in the presence of multiple sound sources or strong reverberation. Video-only techniques can achieve high spatial precision but require that the audio and video subsystems be accurately calibrated to preserve this precision. We present an audio-video localization technique that combines the benefits of the two modalities. We implement our technique in a test environment containing multiple stereo cameras and a room-sized microphone array. Our technique achieves an 8.9 dB improvement over a single far-field microphone, a 6.7 dB improvement over source separation based on video-only localization, and a 0.3 dB improvement over separation based on audio-only localization.

This paper proposes a new frame synchronizer that can achieve frame sync in presence of frequency offset. In particular, a maximum likelihood (ML) algorithm for joint frame synchronization, frequency and channel estimation is developed. Its derivation starts with the assumption of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels, but the results is extended to frequency selective channels. It is shown through comp.ter simulation that the proposed scheme outperformed the existing schemes when frequency offset exists.
