The concept of twisted pair on the cable interconnection can be readily applied to the differential lines on printed circuit board (PCB), which enables enhanced immunity against.crosstalk and radiated emission. In this paper, twisted differential line (TDL) is implemented on PCB and fully characterized. First, the transmission characteristics of TDL including propagation constant and differential impedance are extracted by using 3D full-wave analysis. The potential of TDL for the transmission of over GHz signal and enhanced immunity against.crosstalk and radiated emission is clearly shown. Second, the measurement results reconfirm TDL's capability as a good transmission line structure over several GHz. Also, it is modeled by a simple equivalent circuit, based on measurement results. Third, the enhanced immunity of TDL against.crosstalk and radiated emission is clearly demonstrated by measurement results. TDL is comp.red with other transmission line structures showing its superiority. Finally, several ideas to improve TDL's performance are suggested and verified to be useful.

Segmentation of cursive text has been one of the major problems in Arabic writing. The problem is the shape of the letter which is context sensitive, depending on it's location within a word. Many text recognition systems recognize text imagery at the character level and assemble words from the recognized characters. Unfortunately this approach does not work with Arabic text. We describe a new approach to segment Arabic text imagery at a word level, without analyzing individual characters. This approach avoids the problem of individual characters segmentation, and can overcome local errors in character recognition.

The JMAR laser-plasma x-ray source and its use of a polycapillary collimator to improve the efficiency of photon collection, to eliminate the issue of global divergence is described. It aims to improve the local divergence to 4 mrad FWHM, which is near the optimal value of spatial coherence for proximity x-ray lithography. Thus, the laser-plasma source which in conjunction with the polycapillary collimator, is an effective tool for a wide variety of deep-submicron and sub 100 nm lithography applications.

The conjugate gradient method for unconstrained optimization problems varies with a scalar. In this note, a general condition concerning the scalar is given, which ensures the global convergence of the method in the case of strong Wolfe line searches. It is also discussed how to use the result to obtain the convergence of the famous Flctcher-Reeves, and Polak-Ribiere-Polyak conjugate gradient methods. That the condition cannot be relaxed in some sense is mentioned.

A new DNA sample preparation microfluidic chip for Nucleic Acid (NA) probe assay has been proposed. The proposed microfluidic chip is comp.sed of three parts: microfilter, micromixer and DNA purification chip. We have fabricated a microsieve type filter with an array of 2.2μm diameter holes. We have also demonstrated the mixing can be successfully achieved for low Reynold numbers below 50 by using the fabricated micromixer. The fabricated DNA purification chip has shown a binding capacity of 15mg/cm2 and a minimum extractable input concentration of 100 copies/200μL. The proposed microfluidic chip can be applied for low-cost, disposable sample preparation of NA probe assays.

A sense feature system (SFS) is first automatically constructed from the text corpora to build the textural information. WSD rules are then extracted from SFS according to their certainty factors and are applied to disambiguate the senses of polysemous words. The entropy of a deterministic rough prediction is used to measure the decision quality of a rule set. Finally, The back-off rule smoothing method is further designed to improve the performance of WSD model. In the experiments, a mean rate of correction is achieved during experiments for WSD in the case of rule smoothing is 0.92.

ABC95 array comp.ter is a multi-function network comp.ter based on FPGA technology. A notable feature of ABC95 array comp.ter is the support of comp.ex interconnection, which determines that the comp.ter must have enough I/O band and flexible communications between Pes. The authors designed the interconnecting network chips of ABC95 and realized a form of multi-function interconnection. The multi-function interconnecting network supports conflict-free access from processors to memory matrix and the MESH network of enhanced processors to processor communications. The design scheme has been proved feasible by experiment.

For natural images with comp.ex background and noise, this new approach appears is more effective than other techniques for three key reasons: 1) edge elements treated interdependently to overcome the weakness of standard Hough transform (HT);2) gradient orientation information taken into account in the process of HT;3) an effective method used to merge the HT result, i.e. many clustered short lines into single straight line to represent the edge of object to be recognized. This method consists of three steps, they are: 1) edge detection;2) modified Hough transform to extract clustered short lines;3) merging clustered short lines into a single line after few modifications. The method presented could also be used for extraction of nonvertical straight lines.

Parallel corpus is of great importance to machine translation, and automatic sentence alignment is the first step towards its processing. This paper puts forward a bilingual dictionary based sentence alignment method for Chinese English parallel corpus, which differs from previous length based algorithm in its knowledge-rich approach. Experimental result shows that this method produces over 93% accuracy with usual English-Chinese dictionaries whose translations cover 31.88%-47.90% of the corpus.
