In object-oriented programming the concept of encapsulation imposes a disci.lined way of accessing the data of an object and therefore provides strong protection of the hidden data within objects. However, this causes a limitation in accessing the comp.nent objects within a comp.sed object, or alternatively, causes one to write extra code in application programs. In this paper we look into this issue and propose a solution called automatic method lifting that significantly diminishes the limitation while preserving the philosophy of encapsulation. The solution promotes the ease of using comp.site objects and object sharing. Moreover, it provides an alternative to inheritance in building large comp.ex objects.

Similarity search is a very important problem in data mining. It retrieves similar objects in database and finds proximity between objects. It can be applied to image/picture databases, spatial databases, and time-series database. For Euclid space (a special metric space), similarity search algorithms based on R-tree are efficient in low-dimensional space, but degenerate into linear scan for high-dimensional space. This phenomenon is called dimensionality curse. This paper presents a new partition and index method of metric space, rgh-tree which distributes and partitions objects by using distance information of objects with few fixed reference. It produces a balance tree with no data overlay. In addition, an algorithm based on rgh-tree, which is suitable for similarity search in metric space, is presented. The algorithm overcomes the shortcomings of the exiting algorithms, which has less I/O cost and times of comp.ting distance, with average comp.exity o(n0.58).

Furthermore. An overview of incoherent solitons related to the nonlinear sci.nce was discussed. The self-trapping of a dark stripe borne upon a partially incoherent beam was shown. The coherence properties, modulation inst.bility and pattern formation of these solitons were presented. It was found that the initial phase distribution at the center of the dark notch is important for the evolution of a dark incoherent soliton.

Interaction and integration of multi-modality media types such as video and audio are the essence of multimedia. Although any uni-modality type partially expresses limited semantics less or more, multimedia scene is fully manifested only by interaction and integration of any uni-modal. An algorithm is presented to recognize multimedia scene with supper hidden Markovia model (superHMM) which is constructed by fusion of video and audio features. Experimental data show superHMM gets better correct rate of recognition than the method of multimedia scene recognition only by uni-modal method.

The highly efficient binary representation scheme has dominate the world of comp.tation for a long time. However, the deterministic binary representation seems to be challenged in stochastic neural comp.tation which makes use of the random noise to escape from local minima. This paper presents novel stochastic binary neural network which uses stochastic weights and the stochastic binary sequence data representation. It is very attractive with its great potential to be implemented efficiently. Both the feedforward and the recurrent stochastic binary networks have been discussed in depth. The gradient descent learning techniques are described for the feedforward network. A novel simulated annealing method and an incremental Boltzmann learning algorithm have been proposed. Simulation results on the PARITY problem and a face recognition task show the excellent performance of the model.

In wireless communication networks, there is the relation between end-to-end delay of multimedia stream transmission and error-correction. The minimum average end-to-end delay is discussed based on acknowledgment-repeat-request (ARQ) protocol and forward error correction (FEC) and the relation between the best size of packet-sent, bit-error-rate (BER) and the number of header bits per packet are formalized when the end-to-end delay is minimal. algorithms of the best packet size and minimal bandwidth for minimum average delay of multimedia stream are presented. It is also found out that BER=10-3 is very important factor for delay from some examples.

The development of a wavefront sensor for the soft-x-ray wavelength range for comp.ete characterization of the electromagnetic field distribution in a soft x-ray laser beam was discussed. The sensor was based on the Shack-Hartmann concept and was comp.sed of 20 × 20 diffraction Fresnel lenses etched on and overcoated with a refractive multilayer (Bragg-Fresnel lenses). The results showed an improvement of the soft x-ray laser beam wavefront with increased capillary plasma coloumn length.

The present state of development of Russian best estimate thermohydraulic codes (comp.tation programs) is described, in particular the code KORSAR. The capabilities of modern, two-fluid, single-dimensional codes from the standpoint of a real estimate of the thermohydraulics of the large-scale elements of a reactor inst.llation and situations with sharply changing parameters or counter-current flows of the coolant are shown. The main requirements for comp.ter codes of the new generation are formulated, as well as the requirements for experiments for code verification.
