Synchronization Analysis for a Class of Genetic Oscillator Networks

We consider a synchronization problem for genetic oscillator networks. The genetic oscillators are modeled as nonlinear systems of the Lur’e type. Simple and verifiable synchronization conditions are presented for genetic oscillator networks by using the theory of absolute stability and the matrix theory. A network composed of coupled Goodwin models is used as an example of numerical simulation to verify the efficiency of the theoretical method. © 2019, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

This paper proposes a novel method for cross-modal retrieval. Different from vector (text)-to-vector (image) framework of the traditional cross-modal methods, we adopt a vector (text)-to-matrix (image) framework. We assume that compared with vectors, matrices can directly represent images and characterize the structure of feature space. Furthermore, we propose a Metric based on Multi-order spaces (MMs). Multi-order statistic features are used to represent images for enriching the semantic information, and metrics among the multi-spaces are jointly learned to measure the similarity between two different modalities. Specifically, there are three steps for MMs. First, we jointly use the bags of visual features (zero-order), mean (first-order) and covariance (second-order) to characterize each image. Second, considering that covariance matrices and vectors lie on a Riemannian manifold and an Euclidean space respectively, we embed multi-order spaces into their corresponding Hilbert spaces to reduce the heterogeneity among the original spaces. Finally, the similarity between two different modalities can be measured by learning multiple transformations from the different Hilbert spaces to a common subspace. The performance of the proposed method over the state-of-the-art has been demonstrated through the experiments on two public datasets.

Ultra Wideband has a long list of qualities, whichmake it an emerging transmission technology for the wirelesssensor network. In our previous work, it was used insimulation labs under Pilot Signal Assisted MAC algorithm with prominent results. After the successful implementationunder simulation platform, it was decided to test itseffectiveness on real (hardware based) test bed so its actualperformance could be based line. In this paper, we haveevaluated framework's performance on the real test bed undera project "SMART Incubator". For the better performancejudgment, the results were compared with the simulationresults. The outcomes of practical implementation prove thatimpulse radio based PA-MAC framework is an effective andadaptable solution for wireless sensor network.

During recent years, large-scale data has become more and more present in our daily life, requiring better, faster, and more effective ways to discriminate between unrelated content and what we are truly interested in. In particular, retrieving similar images is a fundamental problem in both image processing and comput.r vision. Since finding similar images high-dimensional image features is not feasible in practice, approximate hashing techniques have been proved very effective due to their great efficiency and reasonably accuracy. Current hashing methods focus on image as a whole. However, sometimes the relevant content might be just bounded to a region of interest while the background part seems to be needless for users. In this paper, we propose to exploit region-level annotations, whenever they are available, for both training supervised hashing methods and also in the query image. Our objective is to evaluate whether region-level features can be helpful in a supervised hashing scenario. Experimental results confirm that region-level annotations in both the query and training images increase the accuracy. Copyright 2014 ACM.

With the advance of comput.r technology and smart device, many technologies and applications have been developed to enhance the efficiency of human-comput.r interaction (HCI). For human, the hand is a natural and direct way in communication. Hand-held Object Recognition (HHOR), which is to predict the label for the object people hold in hand, can help machines in understanding the environment and people's intentions. However, it has not been well studied in the community. So, in this paper, we proposed a novel feature fusion based method for hand-held object recognition with RGB-D data. First, the skeleton information is used to initially locate the object and with depth map we extract object region in a region-growing manner. Then on the corresponding object point cloud, we use Multiple Kernel Learning (MKL) to fuse the shape feature with color feature to obtain the advantages of them. Specially, we collected a dataset, which contains 12800 video frames of 16 categories and each frame captures the visual image, depth map and user skeleton data. The experiment shows promising results in both segmentation and recognition. Copyright 2014 ACM.

Recent achievements in the Intelligent Transport System related research induced the need for further extensions of the newly standardized ITS Station Architecture, integrating an increasing number of emerging new technologies. In this paper preliminary results of the integration of the 6LowPAN protocols related to the use of the IEEE 802.15.4 based access technologies in the generalized ITS Station Architecture are presented. By means of this extension ITS communications open up new possibilities towards the inclusion of emerging technologies, such as the implementationof sensor networks in various safety and non-safety road and vehicle applications and the harmonization of the architecture with the principle of the Internet of Things. The proof of concept implementation of the design has been integrated into a multimodal V2X road-safety scenario, where the sensor network is attached to a roadside ITS Station using industrygrade ITS hardware and software. The results presented in this paper introduce the detailed functional evaluation of the application. By formalizing the results, provided by the functional analysis of the scenario, a feasible input is created for the standardization of the protocols in the ITS Station Architecture.

Feedback control of the engine-out pollutant emissions from diesel engines is a promising approach to relax issues regarding the requirement to fulfill strict limits on the cumulative tail-pipe emissions and regarding the complexity of calibration. This contribution proposes a multivariable controller for the center of main combustion and for the indicated mean effective pressure as inner loop of a cascaded control structure for the engine-out NOx and PM emissions. The combustion controller is synthesized as a discrete H ∞ controller. The controller for the emissions is based on earlier work. The real-time estimation of the combustion characteristics is provided by an embedded device with limited comput.tional capacity. The performance of the controller is demonstrated with engine experiments. © 2012 IFAC.
