In this paper, we propose a data prefetching scheme, History-Awoken Stride (HAS) prefetching, optimized with a warp scheduler, Prefetched-Then-Executed (PTE), and evaluate the performance on the platform that we developed. Our platform is a single inst.uction, multiple thread (SIMT) GPGPU environment, supporting OpenCL 1.2 runtime and TensorFlow framework with CUDA-on-CL technology. Enormous amount of executing threads in GPU demands critical memory performance. HAS exploits history table of related memory accesses in intra-warp and inter-warp of the same workgroup as well as among workgroups, and uses address strides and warp status to monitor the prefetching progress of the executed warp. PTE precisely issues warps according to prefetching status from HAS. The experimental results of LeNet-5 inference and 11 PolyBench test programs on CAS-GPU show that our mechanism can achieve an average IPC performance improvement of 10.4%, and 7.8% reduction in data cache miss rate. The prefetch accuracy can reach 67.7%, and the proportion of prefetch request arrived at the appropriate time reaches 48.2%.

In this paper a writer-independent on-line handwriting recognition system is described comparing the influence of handwriting normalization and adaptation techniques on the recognition performance. Our Hidden Markov Model (HMM) -based recognition system for unconstrained German script can be adapted to the writing style of a new writer using different adaptation techniques whereas the impact of preprocessing to normalize the pen-trajectory is examined. The performance of the resulting writer-dependent system increases significantly, even if only a few words are available for adaptation. So this approach is also applicable for on-line systems in hand-held computers such as PDAs. In addition, the developed normalization techniques are helpful to improve completely writer independent systems. This paper presents the performance comparison of three different adaptation techniques either in a supervised or an unsupervised mode, in combination with appropriate normalization methods, with the availability of different amounts of adaptation data ranging from only 6 words up to 100 words per writer. © 2002 IEEE.

The two dimensional systolic array for multiplication in binary field GF(2m) with LSB (Least Significant Bit) first algorithm proposed by Yeh et al. has the unfavorable property of bidirectional data flows compared with that of Wang and Lin which use MSB (Most Significant Bit) first algorithm. In this paper, by using a polynomial basis with LSB first algorithm, we present an improved bit parallel systolic array over GF(2m). Our two dimensional systolic array has unidirectional data flows with 7 latches in each basic cell. Therefore our systolic array has a shorter critical path delay and has the same unidirectional data flows to the multipliers with MSB first scheme. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.

In this paper, we present a mismatch-aware stochastic matching (MASM) algorithm to alleviate the performance degradation under mismatched training and testing conditions. MASM first computes a reliability measure of applying a set of pre-trained speech models to a mismatch test utterance along the time axis or among different feature vector components. It then estimates and compensates the mismatch using the reliability measure to guide the speech segmentation. Experiments on a serious mismatched condition with training on PSTN-speech database and testing on mobile GSM-speech database showed that MASM outperformed the stochastic match (SM) method, especially, for short utterances.

A microwave patch antenna is studied with reduced patch size operating at 900MHz. The new antenna is featured with a metamaterial substrate that is made from periodic metal strips. One antenna is numerically demonstrated with a patch size of 54mm×60mm. It resonates at 898MHz with a relative bandwidth of 3.8%. The electrical patch size is only 0.16×0.18, much beyond the 0.5 limitation for a conventional patch antenna. The metamaterial antenna is shown with a very high efficiency 95.8%, even for such a small prototype. © 2021 IEEE.

As operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) are getting closer in industrial control systems (ICS) nowadays, the security of critical infrastructure (CI) has become an important issue, which may have a great influence on people's livelihood, economy, and even safety. Therefore, governments around the world have conducted a series of cyber security exercises, which is one of the most effective ways to maintain and optimize the security, so as to cultivate the information security capabilities of government agencies and enterprises in the face of cyber attacks. In this paper, we present the framework and situations of the cyber security exercise with two scenarios on our reservoir testbed, and then analyze the threats based on the attack tree model and give the security recommendations to protect the critical infrastructure according to the results of the practical exercise and analysis.

This paper presents a cell planning scheme using genetic algorithm with the help of propagation model and digitized building information to achieve the acceptable solutions based on suffering from less impact of background noise for the WCDMA systems. Among these solutions, the best one is selected by a performance simulation platform with a RAKE receiver, which evaluates the BER performance with delay profiles obtained from ray-tracing simulator. The required coverage and maximum throughput can be achieved with the optimum solution for base station number, locations, antennas heights, and transmitting power. Thus, an easy and efficient cell planning for WCDMA systems in the initial stage of system development could be delivered.

We present a many-core full system simulation platform and its OpenCL runtime system. The OpenCL runtime system includes an on-the-fly compiler and resource manager for the ARM-based many-core platform. Using this platform, we evaluate approaches of work-item scheduling and memory management in OpenCL memory hierarchy. Our experimental results show that scheduling work-items on a many-core system using general purpose RISC CPU should avoid per work-item context switching. Data deployment and work-item coalescing are the two keys for significant speedup.

This paper presents the NTP experimental platform for heterogeneous wireless sensor networks (WSN), which is built on the campus of National Tsing Hua University under the support of the National Science and Technology Program for Telecommunications (NTP) in Taiwan. The unique purpose of this testbed is to provide an open platform for research communities to test and to showcase their WSN systems and applications. The heterogeneous testbed is composed of three different sensor platforms: the III Zigbee Advanced Platform, the ITRI Sensor Platform and the Moteiv Tmote Platform. A middleware architecture is developed to support context-aware services (CASs) and location-based services (LBSs) across different sensor platforms. Specifically, a SENSORINFO gateway is implemented to hide the discrepancy of different sensor platforms from application developers, which allows application developers to deploy their CASs and/or LBSs while being oblivious to the underlying sensor hardware or system architecture. Moreover, to facilitate the experiments, an over-the-air (OTA) remote update function is available on the platform to enable reprogramming of sensors from a remote location. To demonstrate the unique features of this platform, we present two sample applications: the People Tracking System and the Green Building Monitoring System, which are examples of the LBS and the CAS, respectively.

This paper analyzes the 2d-unitary ESPRIT algorithm and investigates its feasibility in 5G networks. The content of this paper can be divided into three parts. In the first two parts of the paper, the mathematical model of the direction of arrival (DoA) algorithm is given. The third part of the paper describes the simulation results of beamforming scenarios considering DoA location in 5G mmWave ultra-dense networks (UDNs). The contribution of this study is the investigation of the dependence of the resolution threshold and accuracy of the 2d unitary ESPRIT algorithm on the number of elements in the antenna array and the value of SINR. © 2024 IEEE.
