SpectroML is a markup language for molecular spectrometry data that can be used as a "web-aware" mechanism for inst.ument-to-inst.ument, inst.ument-to-application, and application-to-application data interchange and archiving. SpectroML was developed using XML (extensible mark up language), and its vocabulary was gleaned from the terminology, data dictionaries, and concepts embodied in existing standards, inst.ument software, and data interchange formats. Currently, we have created a SpectroML vocabulary, document type definition, schema, stylesheets, and some demonstration applications for UV-visible spectroscopy data;however, the structure and flexible data model embodied in SpectroML should make it easily adaptable to other spectroscopy techniques.

The TRMM standard PR-2A25 products generated and provided by NASA and NASDA were used to analyze the characteristics of typhoon's rainfalll on ground surface of Taiwan. The rain gauge data were used to validate the rainfall rate rerieved by PR. Also the relationship between rain gauge and PR_RR was established. The PR-PR is underestimated approximately by 31% compared with RG_RR for typhoon NARI case, and 62% for Typhoon RAMMASUN case.

A queueing system with heterogeneous servers and general input is analyzed. In particular, it is shown how to obtain the steady state probabilities for such a system, both at random-times and at the times preceding an arrival. If more than one server is idle, an arrival has the choice how to select one of the idle servers. The rules used to do the selection are part of the model description. The probabilities at arrival points are found as follows. First, one determines the probabilities for all states in which there is no queue, and then one calculates the probabilities in which customers are waiting. The probabilities at arrival epochs allow one to find the probability of no wait, the waiting time distribution, and the distribution of the number in the system at random epochs. Heuristic arguments, supported by numerical calculations, show that the importance of selecting a server increases with decreasing traffic intensity, increasing number of servers, and decreasing variation between interarrival times.
