Based on the study of the characteristics of humans' vision system, this paper designed a new algorithm of medical image compression and combined the masking feature of human vision system and the three component model of the image. The experiments were done on the medical images including CT and MRI. The results show that under the same compression ratio, the method used in the paper can achieve better subjective visual quality. The compression ratio can reach 16:1, if the visually lossless effect is required, i.e., almost all the relevant medical information is reserved.

A multi-homed VPN architecture based on extended SOCKSv5 and TLS was proposed. The architecture employs a dynamic connection mechanism for multiple proxies in the end system,in which the security-demanded transmission connections can switch smoothly among the multiple proxies by maintaining a coherent connection context. The mechanism is transparent to application programs and can support the building of VPN. With the cooperation of some other security components,the mechanism guarantees the resource availability and reliability of the end system against some attacks to the specific ports or hosts.

A novel reconfigurable hardware system which uses both multi-DSP and FPGA to attain high performance and real-time imageprocessing are presented. The system structure and working principle of mainly processing multi-DSP board, extended multi-DSP board are analysed. The outstanding advantage is that the communication among different board components of this system is supported by high speed link ports & serial ports for increasing the system performance and computational power. Then the implementation of embedded real-time operating systems (RTOS) by us is discussed in detail. In this system, we adopt two kinds of parallel structures controlled by RTOS for parallel processing of algorithms. The experimental results show that exploitive period of the system is short, and maintenance *** it is suitable for real-time imageprocessing and can get satisfactory effect of imagerecognition.

Walsh-Haar function system that was first intruoduced by us is a new kind of function systems, and has a good global/local property. This function system is called Walsh ordering function system since its generation kernel functions belong to Walsh ordering Walsh function system. We worked out a recursive property of the matrix WHKRm+1 corresponding to the first KR m+1 Walsh-Haar functions in Walsh-Haar function system, and we also proved that Walsh-Haar function system is perfect and orthogonal similar to Walsh function system and Haar function system. Thus, discrete Walsh-Haar transformation (DW-HT) is an orthogonal transformation that can be widely used in signal processing. In this paper, using the recursive property of the matrix WHKRm+1 and the fast algorithm of discrete Walsh transformation (DWT) in Walsh ordering, we have designed a fast algorithm of Walsh ordering DW-HT based on the bisection technique. The idea and method used in this paper can be used for designing fast algorithms of other ordering DW-HTs and other discrete orthogonal transformations.

Target detection techniques play an important role in automatic target recognition (ATR) systems because overall ATR performance depends closely on detection results. In this paper, a novel method for fusion detection of infrared weak targets based on multifeature distance map (MFDM) in image sequences is proposed. As for small weak targets, there are many features, such as local entropy, average gradient strength. These features depict the characteristics of small infrared targets and can be extracted. Multifeature-based fusion techniques are applied to detect such weak targets. The problem of detecting small targets is converted to search peak values in specified feature space where multifeature vectors space (MFVS) is considered. Distance map (DM) can be derived according to feature vectors and target detection is performed in DM. In order to accumulate energy of targets deeply and suppress background and clutters to a great extent, five distance maps obtained by corresponding five consecutive frames are utilized to fuse with average weight, which results in the fact that the contrast between targets and background including clutters are enlarged and that the feature peaks of targets are obvious different from background and clutters. After these steps, a contrast segmentation method is used to extract targets from complicated background on the fused DM. Actual infrared image sequences in background of sea and sky are applied to validate the proposed approach. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed method with high performance.

This paper proposed a novel watermarking scheme for the authentication of business documents by embedding a piece of information in the binary document image. Because it is based on printing text, the most important point is to find out an embedding and abstraction method based on the binary images. This paper gave out an embedding method based on the regions otherwise single pixels, in which the printing character is divided into some regions, and the watermark value is decided by the 0/1 ratio in the region. Based on many experiments, this paper also deduced the rules to change the 0/1 ratio without notice. At the end, the robustness of this method against hardware difference is experimented, and there-suits show that this scheme is useful and potential.

This paper presented a novel algorithm to extract eye features, including pupil center and radius, eye corners and eyelid contours, from frontal face images. Such features are very useful cues for applications like face recognition, facial expression recognition and 3D face modeling from 2D images. The novel method is based on color information, Gabor features and the mutual localization relationship between different features. It works in three steps: (1) Pupil center is detected and estimated in H channel of HSV color space, and then pupil radius is estimated and refined;(2) Eye corners are localized using eye-corner filter based on Gabor feature space;(3) Based on the first and second steps, eyelid curves are fitted by spline function. The experimental results on SJTU dataset show sufficient accuracy and robustness of the novel method.

A novel diversity-sampling based Gaussian kernel density estimation (KDE) model was proposed for the representation of multimodal background. Choosing those samples that have diversiform gray-levels in training sequence, a nonparametric model was built for modeling the scene background. According to the related gray-level, the different weights are given to the different samples in kernel density estimation. This avoids the repetition computation using the total samples, and makes KDE very effective. The experimental results show the good detection performance in the traffic surveillance system.

A simple but effective algorithm which is based on minimizing the maximum discrepancy clustering was presented. Two new metrics of distance between any two triangles is developed. By the new distance metrics, the clustering method is easily extended to divide the input mesh into several connected regions. Furthermore, a post-processing algorithm, constrained boundary straightening, was proposed to regularize the shapes of partitioned regions. The experiments show that this two-step solution for mesh segmentation performs well in both region planarity and region shape.
