In this communication, authors ambition is to investigate the sensitivity of heat flux at solid liquid interface of Falkner-Skan (FS) flow of Casson fluid on a moving wedge. Alongside, authors intended to develop an empirical model in terms of involving parameters. Sensitivity analysis is an essential toll in engineering and manufacturer process to examine the effect of different input factors and reduces the experimental cost and save valuable time. The FS flow in this case is observed under the influence of induced magnetic field. The mathematical model of the flow experiments are adopted from El-Dabe et al. [1] which was solved numerically by using computational software MATLAB and achieved reliable solutions- validated by comparing the numerical results with published results. Researchers and scientists have used a variety of empirical methods to investigate the sensitivity of the output variables. The most effective method for determining the relationship between input parameters and output responses is the correlation development method. A data set is extracted for wall heat flux and Sherwood number at random points, and finally by using RSM the correlation of input parameter and output responses are developed. The statistical results of ANOVA are presented in tabular form by using RSM. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The accurate segmentation and tracking of cells in microscopy image sequences is an important task in biomedical research, e.g., for studying the development of tissues, organs or entire organisms. However, the segmentation of touching cells in images with a low signal-to-noise-ratio is still a challenging problem. In this paper, we present a method for the segmentation of touching cells in microscopy images. By using a novel representation of cell borders, inspired by distance maps, our method is capable to utilize not only touching cells but also close cells in the training process. Furthermore, this representation is notably robust to annotation errors and shows promising results for the segmentation of microscopy images containing in the training data underrepresented or not included cell types. For the prediction of the proposed neighbor distances, an adapted U-Net convolutional neural network (CNN) with two decoder paths is used. In addition, we adapt a graph-based cell tracking algorithm to evaluate our proposed method on the task of cell tracking. The adapted tracking algorithm includes a movement estimation in the cost function to re-link tracks with missing segmentation masks over short time spans. Our combined tracking by detection method has proven its potential in the IEEE ISBI 2020 Cell Tracking Challenge (http://***/) where we achieved as team KIT-Sch-GE multiple top three rankings including two top performances using a single segmentation model for the diverse data sets. When Russia invaded Ukraine on the 24th of February 2022, this led to many acts of solidarity with Ukraine, including support for its electricity system. Just 20 days after the invasion started, the Ukrainian and Moldovan power grids were synchronized to the Continental European power grid to provide stability to these grids. Here, we present an initial analysis of how this synchronization affected the statistics of the power grid frequency and cross-border flows of electric power within Continental Europe. We observe faster inter-area oscillations, an increase in fluctuations and changes in the cross-border flows in and out of Ukraine and surrounding countries as an effect of the synchronization with Continental Europe. Overall these changes are small such that the now connected system can be considered as stable as before the synchronization. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Electricity prices in liberalized markets are determined by the supply and demand for electric power, which are in turn driven by various external influences that vary strongly in time. In perfect competition, the merit order principle describes that dispatchable power plants enter the market in the order of their marginal costs to meet the residual load, i.e. the difference of load and renewable generation. Many market models implement this principle to predict electricity prices but typically require certain assumptions and simplifications. In this article, we present an explainable machine learning model for the prices on the German day-ahead market, which substantially outperforms a benchmark model based on the merit order principle. Our model is designed for the ex-post analysis of prices and thus builds on various external features. Using Shapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) values, we can disentangle the role of the different features and quantify their importance from empiric data. Load, wind and solar generation are most important, as expected, but wind power appears to affect prices stronger than solar power does. Fuel prices also rank highly and show nontrivial dependencies, including strong interactions with other features revealed by a SHAP interaction analysis. Large generation ramps are correlated with high prices, again with strong feature interactions, due to the limited flexibility of nuclear and lignite plants. Machine learning algorithms are applied for measuring the performance of robot-assisted cerebral palsy rehabilitation training system. Such approach allows an analysis and predictions about the system reaction to be done with high accuracy. The rehabilitation training actions of children with cerebral palsy are focused on imagination and conscious control of the face, such as left or right exercises. The aim of the designed interface interaction module is to motivate and to improve the training enthusiasm of the children with cerebral palsy to continue with the rehabilitation therapy avoiding the thoughts about the pain, tiredness and discomfort. The robot is simulated in the platform CopeliaSim.

The ongoing energy transition requires power grid extensions to connect renewable generators to consumers and to transfer power among distant areas. The process of grid extension requires a large investment of resources and is supposed to make grid operation more robust. Yet, counter-intuitively, increasing the capacity of existing lines or adding new lines may also reduce the overall system performance and even promote blackouts due to Braess’ paradox. Braess’ paradox was theoretically modeled but not yet proven in realistically scaled power grids. Here, we present an experimental setup demonstrating Braess’ paradox in an AC power grid and show how it constrains ongoing large-scale grid extension projects. We present a topological theory that reveals the key mechanism and predicts Braessian grid extensions from the network structure. These results offer a theoretical method to understand and practical guidelines in support of preventing unsuitable infrastructures and the systemic planning of grid extensions. © 2022, CC BY.

The paper presents need of using Kalman filtering to optimize location of mobile robotic systems and more accurate navigation. Theoretical knowledge was verified on real system represented by mobile robotic system (MRS) with mecanum wheel. Construction deficiencies causes large deviations in movement from desired trajectory, which makes using Kalman filter more efficient. Localization was performed in indoor hall using odometry from motion sensors and tracking landmarks placed on the hall ceiling with infrared camera Stargazer. On obtained data was used discrete KF, subsequently modified data were used to regulate motion. By combining several existing simulators, co-simulation approaches are designed for efficient simulator development. Especially for energy systems integration simulations involving different physical domains, co-simulation is the required approach. However, co-simulation setup is complex, time-consuming, and additionally, error-prone for large simulations, especially if visualizations are included. Therefore, for an intensive information exchange between simulators, the present paper introduces a new network-based communication concept including the co-simulation setup procedure. The proposed setup concept enables an efficient configuration for the coupling of distributed simulation modules. The evaluation of the implemented concept on an exemplary power grid simulation with integration of power-to-gas and gas-to-power components and power grid visualization shows the ability for efficient handling of a high amount of exchanged simulation data.
