A method to obtain pulse width modulation (PWM) timings for a three level dodecagonal (12-sided polygon) voltage space vector structure using only sampled reference values is proposed in this paper. Typical methods that are used to find PWM timings for dodecagonal SV structures use modulation index and the reference vector angle to get the timings by using trigonometric calculations. This method requires look-up tables, angle estimation making it difficult to implement in closed loop systems. The proposed method requires only two additions to compute these timings. For multilevel case, typical iterative methods need timing calculations (matrix multiplications) to be performed for each triangle within a sector. The proposed method does not require any iterative searching for locating the triangle in which the tip of the reference vector lies. It is also is generic and can be extended to any number of levels with symmetric structures. The algorithm outputs the triangle number and the PWM compare values - that can be used by any carrier based PWM module to obtain space vector PWM like switching sequences. Extensive simulation and experimental results for steady state and transient conditions have been presented to validate the proposed method.

This contribution is focused on the insurance of control system data communication via neural network technologies in connection with classical methods used in expert systems. The solution proposed defines a way of data element identification in transfer networks, solves the transformation of their parameters for neural network input and defines the type and architecture of a suitable neural network. This is supported by experiments with various architecture types and neural network activation functions and followed by subsequent real environment tests. A functional system proposal with possible practical application is the result.

This paper discusses a real-time diagnostics algorithm applied to detect mechanical failure in thin beams subjected to active structural control. A thin aluminum cantilever is equipped with piezoceramic actuators, and its position is measured at the free end by an optical device. The dynamics of the beam is approximated using a second order state-space model, which is augmented by the unknown mass, stiffness, viscous damping and force conversion constants. This model is utilized in the extended Kalman filter (EKF) to observe dynamic states and parameters. The estimated parameters are used to compute the first damped resonant frequency of the active structure, which is assumed to diverge from the nominal condition in case a mechanical failure occurs. This algorithm is implemented on a low-cost computing hardware using automatic code generation and deployment. In the experimental validation procedure, the piezoceramic transducers are supplied with a pseudorandom-binary signal, then the weight of the beam is changed to emulate variations in its mechanical properties. The role of the proposed method is to estimate the physical parameters of the beam and to detect sudden or gradual changes in configuration. The presented results demonstrate the real-time ability to diagnose changes in the mechanical configuration of the active cantilever beam, while also confirming the implementation feasibility of the proposed approach on miniaturized and mass-produced embedded microcontrollers.

Robust human face recognition is one of the most important open tasks in computer vision. This study deals with a challenging subproblem of face recognition: the aim of the paper is to give a precise estimation for the 3D head pose. The main contribution of this study is a novel non-rigid Structure from Motion (SfM) algorithm which utilizes the fact that the human face is quasi-symmetric. The input of the proposed algorithm is a set of tracked feature points of the face. In order to increase the precision of the head pose estimation, we improved one of the best eye corner detectors and fused the results with the input set of feature points. The proposed methods were evaluated on real and synthetic face sequences. The real sequences were captured using regular (low-cost) web-cams.

The economic size of agricultural farms is defined by means of the standard output (SO). However, economic effects of these farms depend on the way of husbandry. The analysed family farms of the area ranging from 8.58 ha UAA to 150 ha UAA had economic sizes ranging from €9,737 to €24,9379. Such a range made it possible to create 4 groups of farms according to classes of the economic size ES6. Calculated developmental possibilities were from -1167 PLN·ha -1 UAA to 3880 PLN·ha -1 UAA. It was stated that with an economic increase of the economic size developmental possibilities increase which is indicated by positive average correlation between these variables. In the best situation, regarding developmental possibilities are large farms having 12 times more possibilities than small farms. Significant differences in developmental possibilities between analysed groups of farms were stated. Significant differences were not stated in the amount of direct subsidies. Significant differences were stated in received direct surplus between small and large farms.
