This paper presents the first steps toward a graph comparison method based on matching matchings, or in other words, comparison of independent edge sets in graphs. The novelty of our approach is to use matchings for calculating distance of graphs in case of edge-colored graphs. This idea can be used as a preprocessing step of graph querying applications, to speed up exact and inexact graph matching methods. We introduce the notion of colored matchings and prove some properties of them in edge colored complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs in case of two colors. © 2013 IEEE.

Ecosystem functioning, climate change, and multiple interactions among biogeochemical cycles, climate system, site conditions and land use options are leading-edge topics in recent environmental modelling. Terrestrial ecosystem models are widely used to support carbon sequestration and ecosystem studies under various ecological circumstances. Our team uses the Biome-BGC model (Numerical Terradynamic Simulation Group, University of Montana), and develops an improved model version of it, called Biome-BGC MuSo. Both the original and the improved model estimate the ecosystem scale storage and fluxes of energy, carbon, nitrogen and water, controlled by various physical and biological processes on a daily time-scale. Web services were also developed and integrated with parallel processing desktop grid technology. Taverna workflow management system was used to build up and carry out elaborated workflows like seamless data flow to model simulation, Monte Carlo experiment, model sensitivity analysis, model-data fusion, estimation of ecosystem service indicators or extensive spatial modelling. Straightforward management of complex data analysis tasks, organized into appropriately documented, shared and reusable scientific workflows enables researchers to carry out detailed and scientifically challenging 'in silico' experiments and applications that could open new directions in ecosystem research and in a broader sense it supports progress in environmental modelling. The workflow approach built upon these web services allows even the most complicated computations to be initiated without the need of programming skills and deep understanding of model structure and initialization. The developments enable a wider array of scientists to perform ecosystem scale simulations, and to perform analyses not previously possible due to high complexity and computational demand.

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to present the solution of a highly nonlinear fluid dynamics in a low Prandtl number regime, typical for metal-like materials, as defined in the call for contributions to a numerical benchmark problem for 2D columnar solidification of binary alloys. The solution of such a numerical situation represents the first step towards understanding the instabilities in a more complex case of macrosegregation. Design/methodology/ approach - The involved temperature, velocity and pressure fields are represented through the local approximation functions which are used to evaluate the partial differential operators. The temporal discretization is performed through explicit time stepping. Findings - The performance of the method is assessed on the natural convection in a closed rectangular cavity filled with a low Prandtl fluid. Two cases are considered, one with steady state and another with oscillatory solution. It is shown that the proposed solution procedure, despite its simplicity, provides stable and convergent results with excellent computational performance. The results show good agreement with the results of the classical finite volume method and spectral finite element method. Originality/value - The solution procedure is formulated completely through local computational operations. Besides local numerical method, the pressure velocity is performed locally also, retaining the correct temporal transient. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

SUMMARY In this paper, we propose three Deflection-Routing-based Multicast (DRM) schemes for a bufferless NoC. The DRM scheme without packets replication (DRM-noPR) sends multicast packet through a non deterministic path. The DRM schemes with adaptive packets replication (DRM-PR-src and DRMYR-all) replicate multicast packets at the source or intermediate node according to the destination position and the state of output ports to reduce the average multicast latency. We also provide fault tolerant supporting in these schemes through a reinforcement learning based method to reconfigure the routing table to tolerate permanent faulty links in the network. Simulation results illustrate that the DRM-PR-all scheme achieves 4l6o, 43cc and 37% less latency on average than that of the DRM-noPR scheme and 27cc, 29cc and 2S6o less latency on average than that of the DRM-PR-src scheme under three synthetic traffic patterns respectively. In addition, all three fault tolerant DRM schemes achieve acceptable performance degradation at various link fault rates without any packet lost. This paper identifies the high value to researchers in many disciplines of having web-based graphical editors for scientific workflows and draws attention to two technological transitions: good quality editors can now run in a browser and workflow enactment systems are emerging that manage multiple workflow languages and support multi-lingual workflows. We contend that this provides a unique opportunity to introduce multi-lingual graphical workflow editors which in turn would yield substantial benefits: workflow users would find it easier to share and combine methods encoded in multiple workflow languages, the common framework would stimulate conceptual convergence and increased workflow component sharing, and the many workflow communities could share a substantial part of the effort of delivering good quality graphical workflow editors in browsers. The paper examines whether such a common framework is feasible and presents an initial design for a web-based editor, tested with a preliminary prototype. It is not a fait accompli but rather an urgent rallying cry to explore collaboratively a generic web-based framework before investing in many divergent individual implementations.

Network virtualization is recognized as an effective way to overcome the ossification of the Internet. However, the virtual network mapping problem (VNMP) is a critical challenge, focusing on how to map the virtual networks to the substrate network with efficient utilization of infrastructure resources. The problem can be divided into two phases: node mapping phase and link mapping phase. In the node mapping phase, the existing algorithms usually map those virtual nodes with a complete greedy strategy, without considering the topology among these virtual nodes, resulting in too long substrate paths (with multiple hops). Addressing this problem, we propose a topology awareness mapping algorithm, which considers the topology among these virtual nodes. In the link mapping phase, the new algorithm adopts the k-shortest path algorithm. Simulation results show that the new algorithm greatly increases the long-term average revenue, the acceptance ratio, and the long-term revenue-to-cost ratio (R/C).

The performance of two pressure-velocity coupling strategies, associated with the primitive variable solution of incompressible Newtonian fluid with the meshless Local Radial Basis Function Collocation Method (LRBFCM), is compared with respect to computational efficiency, stability, accuracy and spatial convergence. The LRBFCM is structured with multiquadrics on five noded support domains. The explicit time stepping is used. The Backward- Facing Step problem (BFS) has been selected as a benchmark problem, previously tackled by several numerical methods. The semi-local fractional step method (FSM) and completely local pressure-velocity couplings (LPVC) are compared. The numerical results are validated against previously published data. The results are represented and compared in terms of a convergence plot of the reattachment position. We show that both approaches provide reasonable results;however, LVPC is less computationally complex and less stable in comparison to FSM. © 2012 WIT Press.

The project MoSGrid (Molecular Simulation Grid) has been developing a web-based science gateway supporting the community with various services for quantum chemistry, molecular modeling, and docking. Users gain access to distributed computing infrastructures (DCIs) via intuitive user interfaces for sophisticated tools, specialized workflows, and distributed repositories. Currently, the MoSGrid community consists of about 120 users from a number of fields related to chemistry and bioinformatics located in Germany. However, the underlying security infrastructure is generally applicable and can be deployed in arbitrary projects. MoSGrid intends to address the international community by participating in the EU-projects SCI-BUS (Scientific gateway Based User Support) and ER-flow (Building an European Research Community through Interoperable Workflows and Data), and collaborating with the EU-project EDGI (European Desktop Grid Initiative). © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence.
