An optically pumped micro disk laser operating at 1.2 μ m under three waveguide coupling schemes, were numerically simulated. The numerical analysis is done to characterize the device for photonic integrated circuit-based applications. The rate equations were solved under steady state and transient analysis to evaluate the output power characteristics. A turn-on delay of 0.184 ns is observed, as the device is switched from 0 to 1.5 times the threshold input pump power (Pth) and it decreases to 0.041 ns when switched to 5Pth, for all the three coupling schemes. However, the rise time settles at a constant value of 0.0235 ns for the coupling schemes. Maximum modulation bandwidth of 9.5GHz is obtained for the coupling scheme employing optimal spiral waveguide and a slot waveguide, with efficiency of 67%, while it increases to 10.5 GHz for the coupling scheme employing optimized spiral waveguide alone, with efficiency of 88%. © 2023 IEEE.

In real time automotive electrical systems, an alternator is usually used for charging the vehicle. The alternator generates AC voltage which is converted into DC voltage through rectifier of an alternator and this DC voltage helps to charging the vehicle's battery. The alternator further coupled with the vacuum pump, provides vacuum to the suction line of the vehicle's braking system. The rotor of the vacuum pump is made of mild steel which weighs high. Hence, it may act as a load to the alternator and reduces its efficiency. In the proposed model, efficiency and performance characteristics of the alternator are improved by reducing the mass of the rotor. Here, the mild steel is replaced by aluminum metal which weighs less. By using this, the mass of the vacuum pump is reduced, due to which the output power of the alternator gets increased. This increase in output power improves the efficiency of an alternator and subsequently the performance of the vehicle's charging system is improved. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Aluminum metal matrix composites (AMMCs) are in potential demand in numerous field such as automotive, defence and sports recreation sectors owe to important properties compared to traditional aluminium alloys. AA7055 is generally embraced and it is the ideal composite between Al7XXX series arrangement mainly used for different vehicle applications. AA7055 metal matrix composites properties can be improved by incorporating suitable reinforcement. The motivation behind this assessment is to give an outline of silicon nitride in the AA7055 MMC as a base material and to clarify changes in mechanical properties due to the inclusion of reinforcements that can be further improved in combination with the addition of appropriate reinforcement materials to the base matrix. © 2022

Convergent/divergent channels represent a critical advancement in thermal management systems, offering enhanced heat transfer capabilities through geometrically optimized flow paths. This study investigates the thermal and hydrodynamic characteristics of UO₂-ZnO-Fe₃O₄/EG-water ternary hybrid nanofluid in rotating convergent/divergent channels with magnetohydrodynamic and radiation effects, a critical area for enhancing heat transfer efficiency in modern thermal management systems. Employing the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method coupled with a Box-Behnken design approach, we analyzed how key parameters affect flow behavior and heat transfer performance. The numerical simulations reveal that increasing the nanoparticle volume fraction from 0.01 to 0.06 enhances the Nusselt number by 27.3 %, while an increase in the magnetic parameter reduces the friction coefficient by 41.2 %. The Reynolds number demonstrates a strong positive correlation with the Nusselt number (R² = 0.978). Maximum heat transfer (Nu = 33.4859) achieved at: α = 1°, Re = 40, φ = 3 %, Ha = 50, Rd = 1, Kn = 0.04, De = 0.5, Ro = 50, ε = 0, λ = 0.5 whereas a minimum flow resistance (Cf = -2.60454) occurred at: α = -3°, Re = 60, φ = 6 %, Ha = 25, Rd = 1, Kn = 0, De = 0.5, Ro = 50, ε = 0.2, λ = 0.5. For the convergent channel configuration (α = -3°), the friction coefficient was 28.3 % higher than in the divergent channel (α = 5°) under identical flow conditions. This work advances the field beyond previous studies by comprehensively analyzing the synergistic effects of rotation, magnetohydrodynamic, radiation, and channel geometry on the performance of ternary hybrid nanofluids, providing crucial insights for designing more efficient thermal systems in electronics cooling, heat exchangers, and industrial processing applications. © 2025 The Authors

Wireless communication is highly susceptible to security outbreaks with shear advancement in signal processing technology followed by immense deployment of high-speed mobile communication networks. Pitfalls in current architecture of IEEE 802.16 or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) have been put forth in recent literature, based on analytical reasoning and design methodologies. With identification of these vulnerabilities, some solutions have also been proposed for their rectification;however, the experimental assessment of these solutions has not been carried out in appropriate manners to justify the satisfaction of constraints. In this paper, we present a generic methodology to simulate and analyze the authentication protocols in WiMAX based on obtained results. We focus on the 1st and 2nd version of Privacy & Key Management (PKM) Protocols, which are implemented in the WiMAX architecture at present and compare their performance characteristics with another proposed solution ISNAP;which claims to eradicate most of the existing threats with introducing minimum overheads. The performance evaluation of these protocols has been carried out by simulating the behavior of BS and SS nodes in real-time wireless network using Linux based hosts. This work intends to establish the formal basis to justify the claims put forth in the specification of ISNAP against PKM v1 & v2. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, a wideband monopole antenna with high gain characteristics has been proposed. Number of slits was introduced at the far radiating edge to transform it to multiple monopole radiators. Partial ground plane has been used to widen the bandwidth while by inserting suitable slits at the radiating edges return loss and bandwidth has been improved. The proposed antenna provides high gain up to 13.2dB and the achieved impedance bandwidth is wider than an earlier reported design. FR4 Epoxy with dielectric constant 4.4 and loss tangent 0.02 has been used as substrate material. Antenna has been simulated using HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) as a 3D electromagnetic field simulator, based on finite element method. A good settlement has been found between simulated and measured results. The proposed design is suitable for GSM (890-960MHz), GPS (L1:1575.42MHz, L2:1227.60MHz, L3:1381.05MHz, L4:1379.913MHz, L5:1176.45MHz), DCS (1710-1880MHz), PCS (1850-1990MHz), UMTS(1920-2170MHz), Wi-Fi/WLAN/Hiper LAN/IEEE 802.11 2.4GHz (2412-2484MHz), 3.6GHz (3657.5-3690.0MHz) and 4.9/5.0GHz (4915-5825MHz), Bluetooth (2400-2484MHz), WiMAX 2.3GHz (2.3-2.5GHz), 2.5GHz (2500-2690 MHz), 3.3GHz, 3.5GHz (3400-3600MHz) and 5.8GHz (5.6-5.9GHz) & LTE applications. © 2012 IEEE.

Fish-inspired robots offer numerous advantages, including improved maneuverability, reduced power consumption, and quieter actuation than traditional propeller-based underwater robots. However, designing effective controllers for optimal performance is challenging due to the complex mechanisms and hydrodynamic forces involved. Traditional experimental methods for testing and tuning controllers can be costly and may even inflict physical damage to the robot during the development phase. In this paper, we propose a solution in the form of a ROS-based hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation framework, which enables safe and efficient testing of control algorithms for fish-inspired robots. Our approach involves implementing the control algorithm on actual hardware while controlling a simulated robot equipped with virtual sensors to provide feedback. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework, we implement and tune a PID controller for path tracking on an anguilliform-inspired robot. Furthermore, we experimentally validate its feasibility and performance on a physical anguilliform-inspired fish robot. By leveraging our ROS-based HIL-simulation framework, this research contributes to advancing the development and control of fish-inspired robots, offering a cost-effective and reliable approach to controller tuning and testing. © 2023 IEEE.

The test series reported is part of a research program aimed at defining tools for static design of structural elements made of High Strength Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (HSFRC). One of the parameters that had to be decided upon for the design of static structural tests was the fibre type. On the one hand, longer, 60-mm fibres can bridge wider cracks and provide increased toughness, and on the other hand, mixes with shorter, 30-mm fibres can be consolidated more readily. In order to clarify this issue and to evaluate whether structural test results with one type of fibre (short) are indicative of static behaviour of HSFRC elements with another type of fibres (long), we performed toughness tests of specimens with both fibre types. The four-point bending tests were carried out on 115-N/mm2 150×150×600-mm beam specimens with "short" (30-mm) and "long" (60-mm) hooked-end steel fibres that had similar aspect ratios of 60-65. The test results showed a pronounced difference between the responses of the two specimen types at relatively large displacements. However, a closer examination of the results showed that within a certain deflection range the responses of the two mixes were similar. It was evaluated that the (calculated) crack opening that corresponds to this deflection is beyond the criterion usually specified in design codes for serviceability limit state and within the range of RC members ultimate limit state.

Polymerized small molecule acceptors (PSMAs) have greatly promoted the performance of all-polymer solar cells (all-PSCs), but they are generally synthesized via Stille polycondensation, and thus suffer from the drawbacks of high cost, toxicity, and harsh reaction conditions, etc. Here, two new PSMAs named PITBIC-F and PITBIC-Cl are synthesized by the metal-free Knoevenagel polycondensation process catalyzed by Lewis base, both of which exhibit a high degree of polymerization of over 25. Due to the introduction of the ring-locked structure, both PSMAs exhibit improved photostability. Mixed with the polymer donor PBDB-T, all-PSCs devices have been successfully fabricated, but have shown limited device performance due to inferior charge transport and undesired film phase separation. © 2025 Wiley-VCH GmbH.
