In large-scale object tracking wireless sensor networks, multiple mobile nodes will bring large amount of communication overheads in maintaining the accuracy of localization tracking, which would possibly affect the collection and dissemination of the tracking data, seriously. Existing seminar works purely focus on achieving optimal tracking accuracy and suffer from large amount of protocol overhead, due to lacking of adaptations on various accuracy requirements for different tracking applications. In this paper, we propose a prediction based object tracking protocol for tiered accuracy requirements. The tired accuracy requirements are perceived by each entity so as to establish a unified predicted model for the moving objects and the sink nodes. Moreover, the network entities could share the corresponding model parameters to others related, thus, all the interested entities use the same model to predict the moving objects and the corresponded sink location, so as to achieve a precise location. In this approach, the system achieves efficient data distribution and information sharing to reduce communication overheads, such that tiered application requirements are satisfied. An optimal model on vehicular mobility in analytical form is made, employing the trace generated by kinematic model and the data collected in real experiments. In that, we set up a simulation environment in evaluating our protocol using Qualnet, a validated commercial simulation platform. Simulation results show that, the proposed algorithm can effectively improve network efficiency and successfully satisfy different level of application requirements.

Until recently, most oil pumping units (OPUs) have been using manual control in the oilfield. In this paper, network based automatic control is proposed for OPU management. This proposed network can sequentially realize automatic data sensing, automatic malfunction detection, remote data transmission, intelligent data organization and management, automatic malfunction warning, automatic stroke adjustment and state report via GSM short message service (SMS). Specifically, the proposed network based automatic control system contains four parts: 1) the first level sensors (FLS) for data sensing;2) the developed intelligent sensors (ISs), which are the second level sensors, for data storage and elementary processing;3) a communication protocol for data transmission;and 4) a software-based network center for data processing, data management, malfunction detection, remote stroke adjustment, GSM SMS and so on. In this paper, we focus on describing the IS design and reporting the elementary experiment results of the proposed system at the oil well HUACHI-38-122. © 2010 IEEE.

We present a factor analysis method that accounts for possible temporal misalignment of the factor loadings across the population of samples. Our main hypothesis is that the data contains a subset of variables with similar but delayed profiles obeying a consistent precedence ordering relationship. Our model is motivated by the difficulty of gene expression analysis across subjects who have common patterns of immune response but show different onset times after a uniform innoculation time of a viral pathogen. The proposed method is based on a linear model with additional degrees of freedom that account for each subject's inherent delays. We present an algorithm to fit this model in a totally unsupervised manner and demonstrate its effectiveness on extracting gene expression factors affecting host response using a flu-virus human challenge study dataset. © 2010 IEEE.

Rapid advances in multi-channel microelectrode neural recording technologies in recent years have spawned broad applications in implantable neuroprosthetic and rehabilitation systems. The dramatic increases in data bandwidth and data volume associated with multichannel recording also come with a large computational load which presents major design challenges for implantable systems in terms of power dissipation and hardware area. In this paper, we present a new design methodology that utilizes Hebbian learning for real-time neural signal processing. A stream-based technique is proposed that can effectively approximate the hardware learning kernel while significantly reducing hardware area and power. The proposed method is validated using benchmark problems including spike sorting and population decoding. Experimental results show that the stream-based approach can achieve up to 98% and 43.4% reduction in equivalent slice look-up table and power of Xilinx Spartan6 Low Power FPGA.

In this paper, the forward gated-diode method is used to extract the gate oxide thickness and doping concentration of MOS device simultaneously. The gate oxide thickness and body doping concentration are first extracted from the recombination-generation (RG) current, and then from the simulation result of ISE-Dessis. The results obtained from R-G method shows a good agreement with the simulation data.

The basic assumption of classical Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence is that the frame of discernment is complete. However, the frame of discernment is often incomplete in real data fusion application systems. A generalized evidence theory (GET) is proposed to solve this problem in this paper. The generalized basic probability assignment (GBPA) is defined. The value assigned to the empty set shows the support degree to incomplete frame of discernment. A new combination rule, called generalized combination rule (GCR), is proposed to handle evidence combination. It is shown that the proposed combination rule satisfies both commutative law and associative law. Another desirable property of the proposed GET is that it will be reduced as the classical evidence theory when the GBPA to empty set is zero. Some numerical examples are used to show the efficiency of the proposed GET.

Magnetic field inhomogeneity is a long-standing problem in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopic imaging (MRSI). Specifically, in MRSI, field inhomogeneity, if not corrected, can cause frequency shifts, line broadening, and lineshape distortions in the spectral peaks. This paper addresses the problem of correcting the field inhomogeneity effects on limited k-space MRSI data. A penalized maximum-likelihood method is proposed, which enables the use of anatomical constraints for improving the correction performance with only limited k-space data. Simulation results are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The development of mobile network technology provides a great potential for social networking services. This paper studied data mining for social network analysis purpose, which aims at find people's social network patterns by analyzing the information about their mobile phone usage. In this research, the real database of MIT's Reality Mining project is employed. The classification model presented in this project provides a new approach to find the proximity between users - based on their registration frequencies to specific cellular towers associated their working places. K-means Algorithm is applied for clustering, and we find the result could achieve the highest accuracy 0.823 at the number groups k = 6. The clustering result successfully reflects the higher proximity (at work) for the intra-class subjects.

Sharp features of 3D point clouds play an important role in many geometric computations and modeling application. In this paper, a novel modified Partition of Unity (PoU) Based Sharp feature extraction algorithm is proposed, which is directly operated on discrete point clouds. For every point in target point cloud, spherical neighborhood with radius δ is acquired with the help of KD-Tree and weighted average position of points within the δ-neighborhood is computed using modified PoU method. Distance which is the projection of the displace between original point and its Weighted average position along normal direction is defined as the criteria for a point belong to sharp feature or crease line. Experiments on both synthetic data and practical scanner point clouds indicate that our algorithm are both efficient and effective to the task of sharp feature extraction from point clouds. Our method is easy to be implemented and more sensitive to sharp features as well as its low computational complexity.

Relevant pages finding is to find a set of relevant pages that address the same topic as the given page. Hyperlink relationship is an important useful clue for this task. Some hyperlinks are useful, also some are irrelevant or noisy. Therefore, it is important to design efficient relevant pages finding methods that can work well in the real-world Web data. In this paper, we propose a relevant pages finding algorithm, KernelRank. This algorithm takes advantage of linkage kernels to reveal latent semantic relationships among pages and to identify relevant pages precisely and effectively. Experiments are conducted on WT10G and the results show that the KernelRank algorithm is feasible and effective.
