Accurate modeling and identification to the dynamics of the feed drive system is significant in designing a high performance milling machine. In this paper, mathematical model of the feed drive system, including electromagnetic and mechanical aspects, is concluded. To be consistent with the controller design techniques, two different grey-box identification methods are discussed to estimate the model of a practical milling machine. It turns out that the sampled-data control system with a slower sample rate fits the system better than the faster one. Moreover, compared with the model estimated by partial continuous approach, the total discrete-time model achieves better results in the model validation.
A universal solution for management of dynamic sensor networks will be presented, covering both networking and application layers. A network of intelligent modules, overlaying the sensor network, collectively interpre...

It is widely recognized that developing efficient and fully automated algorithms for clustering large transactional datasets is a challenging problem. In this paper, we propose a fast, memory-efficient, and scalable clustering algorithm for analyzing transactional data. Our approach has three unique features. First, we use the concept of Weighted Coverage Density as a categorical similarity measure for efficient clustering of transactional datasets. The concept of weighted coverage density is intuitive and allows the weight of each item in a cluster to be changed dynamically according to the occurrences of items. Second, we develop two transactional data clustering specific evaluation metrics based on the concept of large transactional items and the coverage density respectively. Third, we implement the weighted coverage density clustering algorithm and the two clustering validation metrics using a fully automated transactional clustering framework, called SCALE (Sampling, Clustering structure Assessment, cLustering and domain-specific Evaluation). The SCALE framework is designed to combine the weighted coverage density measure for clustering over a sample dataset with self-configuring methods that can automatically tune the two important parameters of the clustering algorithms: (1) the candidates of the best number K of clusters;and (2) the application of two domain-specific cluster validity measures to find the best result from the set of clustering results. We have conducted experimental evaluation using both synthetic and real datasets and our results show that the weighted coverage density approach powered by the SCALE framework can efficiently generate high quality clustering results in a fully automated manner. Narrow-band position error at mid-frequencies around the open-loop crossover frequency can not be effectively reduced using a conventional peak filter, because the attenuation of sensitivity gains has to compromise with the associated decrease of phase margin. This paper presents a general second-order filter that is applicable to reject narrow-band disturbances at any frequency range. The filter zero is designed to minimally degrade the closed-loop system stability and obtain a smooth sensitivity curve around the disturbance frequency. A nonlinear optimization procedure is developed to select the filter parameters such that the statistical position error is minimized. Experimental results of a PZT-actuated head positioning control system on spinstand demonstrate that the add-on filter can further reduce the mid-frequency PES NRRO by 8% and preserve the stability margin of the original control system

This paper introduces a new algorithm for implementing cellular active contour technique based on pixel-level snakes (PLS). The main motivation is the optimization of the computational performance, especially when PLS are implemented on pixel-parallel single instruction multiple data (SIMD) processor arrays. The algorithm is based on the evolution of an active region. This allows the implementation of the entire algorithm using every simple local rules. Additionally, nested contours and propagation into narrow cavities are supported. The algorithm and experimental results from real-time implementation on vision chips are presented

The process of halftoning is usually computationally expensive and algorithms that speed up this process are often desired. This proposes a novel technique in an attempt to improve the speed of the algorithm initially proposed by Murat's and Vaidaynatan. In addition our propose technique is extended to operate on grey-level images halftoning using look up table technique. The results obtained have been assessed and have clearly shown that our proposed algorithm performs favourably in terms of speed
