Current control processes in the material handling domain are generally not automated but require manual human intervention. However, the ongoing development towards the Industry 4.0 involves new models and concepts and hence more and more automated control functions will become necessary. That is, devices such as cranes in the material handling domain will become smarter and will also be networked to a larger extent. However, it will be required that control messages passed to the cranes through a network, possibly shared with other traffic, are guaranteed to arrive in time. In this paper, we present an OPC UA-based model of an overhead travelling crane as part of a material handling scenario. The crane can be controlled by a crane remote controller, which we model as well. We use time-sensitive networking technology to ensure deterministic communication between the crane remote controller and the crane. To demonstrate the crane movement, we illustrate it in a simulation before we prove the deterministic communication in a real testbed. © 2020 IEEE.

Recent pulsar timing array (PTA) experiments have reported strong evidence of the stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB). If interpreted as primordial gravitational waves (GWs), the signal favors a strongly blue-tilted spectrum. Consequently, the nonsingular cosmology, which is able to predict a strongly blue-tilted GW spectrum with nT 2 on certain scales, offers a potential explanation for the observed SGWB signal. In this paper, we present a Genesis-inflation model capable of explaining the SGWB signal observed by the PTA collaborations while also overcoming the initial singularity problem associated with the inflationary cosmology. Furthermore, our model predicts distinctive features in the SGWB spectrum, which might be examined by forthcoming space-based gravitational wave experiments. © 2023, CC BY.

Smart cities have produced vast amounts of surveillance video data that can be processed to identify anomalies since the introduction of visual sensors. A novel Quantized Wavelet Auxiliary Encoder Self-Attention Dilated Convolutional Neural Network with Gold Rush Optimizer (QWAESDCNN-GRO) designed to enhance security and reduce crime potential. Through the integration of the Quantized Discrete Haar Wavelet Transform (QDHWT), frame-level features have been extracted. Subsequently, the recovered features are fed to the Auxiliary Guided Knowledge Encoder-Decoder (AGED), which uses them to rank the features. These features are then sent to the Self-Attention Causal Dilated Convolutional Neural Network (SACDCNN) with Gold Rush Optimization (GRO) for anomaly detection. Performance indicators including Fl-score, recall, accuracy, precision, and AUC are compared with those of earlier techniques in order to assess the effectiveness of the recommended strategy. Using the UCF-Crime dataset, the model achieved an accuracy of 99.87% and an error rate of 0.021%. On the Hockey Fights dataset, it obtained an accuracy of 99.88% and an error rate of 0.019%.

In recent decades, vision problems have become more common. One significant barrier is that people who are visually impaired generally require assistance performing their daily tasks. As a result, developing a technological solution to this challenge is critical. Implementing an automatic object identification system can enable visually impaired people to roam independently. The study employs two Artificial Intelligence (AI) models, a Region-based Fully Convolutional Network (RFCN) and a Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Mask RCNN), to detect objects and assess their performance. The evaluation demonstrates RFCN's outstanding performance with an impressive Mean Average Precision (mAP) score of 0.825. The Raspberry Pi processor is used as a vital component in the process of hardware development. The RFCN model is integrated into the processor to aid in the identification of objects collected by the system's pi-camera. The detected objects are communicated to users via auditory feedback. The hardware system also includes an ultrasonic sensor, which provides distance information for the detected objects. This full hardware solution is specifically developed to help visually impaired people overcome mobility issues in both indoor and outdoor settings. The suggested system seeks to improve the autonomy and safety of visually impaired individuals in their day-to-day activities by seamlessly mixing advanced technologies such as AI and embedded systems.

In recent years, inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted increasing attention as potential theranostic agents in the field of oncology. Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a minimally invasive technique that uses nanoparticles to produce heat from light to kill cancer cells. PTT requires two essential elements: a photothermal agent (PTA) and near-infrared (NIR) radiation. The role of PTAs is to absorb NIR, which subsequently triggers hyperthermia within cancer cells. By raising the temperature in the tumor microenvironment (TME), PTT causes damage to the cancer cells. Nanoparticles (NPs) are instrumental in PTT given that they facilitate the passive and active targeting of the PTA to the TME, making them crucial for the effectiveness of the treatment. In addition, specific targeting can be achieved through their enhanced permeation and retention effect. Thus, owing to their significant advantages, such as altering the morphology and surface characteristics of nanocarriers comprised of PTA, NPs have been exploited to facilitate tumor regression significantly. This review highlights the properties of PTAs, the mechanism of PTT, and the results obtained from the improved curative efficacy of PTT by utilizing NPs platforms. © 2024 The Royal Society of Chemistry

This study presents a comprehensive benchmarking analysis of cryptographic protocols for Internet of Things (IoT) malware defense. The framework was specifically tailored to evaluate cryptographic protocols such as AES-128, AES-256, ChaCha20, RSA (1024-bit, 2048-bit, and 4096-bit), SHA256, SHA512, and HMAC-SHA256 were tested in both standalone and emulated environments. The primary objective was to evaluate the performance and resource consumption of these protocols, focusing on their encryption and hashing efficiency. Key innovations include the comparative analysis of resource consumption and performance efficiency across diverse cryptographic operations, under both real-world and emulated conditions. By identifying protocols like ChaCha20 for high efficiency and minimal resource usage, and RSA 4096-bit for enhanced security at higher computational costs, this study provides actionable insights into the trade-offs between security and performance. These findings offer a foundational reference for selecting optimized cryptographic protocols, advancing IoT malware defense strategies through informed decision-making.

Escape routing is a critical problem in PCB routing, and its quality dramatically affects the cost of the PCB design. Unlike the traditional escape routing that works mainly for the BGA with unique line width and space, this paper presents a high-performance escape routing algorithm to handle problems with variable design rules and multiple constraints. We first propose a novel obstacle-avoiding method to project pins to the boundary and construct a channel projection graph combined with a channel merging technique to handle complex irregular packages. We then construct a bi-projection graph and propose a matching-based hierarchical sequencing algorithm to consider manual constraints. We perform global routing for each pin/differential pair by congestion-avoiding path initializing and rip-up and reroute path optimizing. Finally, a length-aware detail routing algorithm is developed to optimize the line length while ensuring the differential pair constraints. The experimental results on industrial PCB instances show that our algorithm can achieve 100% routability without violating the design rules and constraints, while two state-of-the-art PCB routers, FreeRouting and Allegro, cannot complete escape routing. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Recently, evidence of stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) signals observed by pulsar timing array (PTA) collaborations, has prompted investigations into their origins. We explore the compatibility of a proposed inflationary scenario, incorporating an intermediate null energy condition (NEC)-violating phase, with the PTA observations. The NEC violation potentially amplifies the primordial tensor power spectrum, offering a promising explanation for PTA observations. Numerical analyses, primarily focused on NANOGrav's 15-year results, reveal the model's compatibility with PTA data. Notably, the model predicts a nearly scale-invariant GW spectrum in the mHz frequency range, which sets our scenario apart from other interpretations predicting a red primordial GW spectrum on smaller scales. Recent advances of foundation models (FMs) have made navigating mobile applications (apps) based on high-level goal instructions within reach, with significant industrial applications such as UI testing. While existing benchmarks evaluate FM-based UI navigation using the binary pass/fail metric, they have two major limitations: they cannot reflect the complex nature of mobile UI navigation where FMs may fail for various reasons (e.g., misunderstanding instructions and failed planning), and they lack industrial relevance due to oversimplified tasks that poorly represent real-world scenarios. To address the preceding limitations, we propose Sphinx, a comprehensive benchmark for multi-dimensional evaluation of FMs in industrial settings of UI navigation. Sphinx introduces a specialized toolkit that evaluates five essential FM capabilities, providing detailed insights into failure modes such as insufficient app knowledge or planning issues. Using both popular Google Play applications and WeChat’s internal UI test cases, we evaluate 8 FMs with 20 different configurations. Our results show that existing FMs universally struggle with goal-based testing tasks, primarily due to insufficient UI-specific capabilities. We summarize seven lessons learned from benchmarking FMs with Sphinx, providing clear directions for improving FM-based mobile UI navigation. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We present highly stable bilayer HfO2/TiO2 memristive synapse for neuromorphic computing applications. The memristive synapse shows repetitive 220 Long-term potentiation and depression cycles without any breakdown with total number of 220k pulses. The nonlinear values of potentiation and depression are 2.52 and -2.63, respectively with 1000 conductance pulses (500 pulses of potentiation and 500 pulses of depression). The experimental data of potentiation and depression was used to train HNN for pattern recognition of 28×28 pixels comprising 784 synapses. In 16 iterations, the HNN can be successfully trained to identify the input image with a training accuracy of about 97%. Moreover, the device has good retention (104 s) at 120 °C. These excellent synaptic characteristics of annealed device allows it for artificial intelligence systems in near future. © 2022 IEEE.
