In this paper, a nineteen level dodecagonal voltage space vector structure is proposed for the first time, by cascading two asymmetric three level inverters with isolated H-Bridges. The dodecagonal structure is made possible by proper selection of DC link voltages and switching states of the inverters. The proposed scheme retains all the advantages of multilevel topologies as well the advantages of dodecagonal voltage space vector structure. A generic and simple method for calculation of PWM timings is proposed. Also, a new method of switching technique is proposed, which ensures minimum switching while maintaining the linearity between modulating signals and the output phase voltages. Extensive simulation and experimental results have been presented for validation of the proposed concept.

Object grasping by robot hands is challenging due to the hand and object modeling uncertainties, unknown contact type and object stiffness properties. To overcome these challenges, the essential purpose is to achieve the mathematical model of the robot hand, model the object and the contact between the object and the hand. In this paper, an intelligent hand-object contact model is developed for a coupled system assuming that the object properties are known. The control is simulated in the Matlab Simulink/SimMechanics, Neural Network Toolbox and Computer Vision System Toolbox.

The efficient functioning of grid data centers is one of the most important factor that preoccupies the academic world (professors, researchers, PhD students and so on). The trends, in this continuous growth, of the use of grid technologies in vast and different fields lead to the necessity of the development of methods of optimizing the efficiency of the grid data centers infrastructure. The main objective of the paper consists in developing a computer aided management system for keeping track and assessment of wear off of computing machines from a network of grid data centers (more accurately said, it is a “software system for decision support”). The system will be able to perform real time alarming of the personnel of data centers for possible incidents of for the rising possibility of abnormal functioning of this data centers. This objective will be accomplished through the development of a database that will store data about the hardware equipment components of the grid cluster behavior, data collected form the starting point of the implementation, in real time. The data is acquired through many sensors attached to the components of the cluster servers, like the hard disks, memories and processing units. All this data will be available through a secure web portal, the access to this data being available only to authorized personnel. The database will provide the needed information and data to the decision support software system. The implementation of this software will lead to a growth in functionality of the grid clusters through forecasting the possible malfunctions that will allow the optimized scheduling of hardware maintenance, software reinstall and configuration. More than that, will function as an emergency response system for the management of the network of grid data centers.

The quality of machine tools is critical in determining their productivity and the accuracy of the finished work piece. The headstock of the machine tool has the greatest impact on these parameters. The tool or work-piece holder must meet specific demands for maximum speed and rigidity. These two parameters are variable, but always in contradiction, and depend mainly on the Spindle-Bearings System (SBS). In this context, SBS are increasingly being produced in combination with roller bearings, and with various combinations of radial ball bearings. This is mainly because the radial ball bearings allow groupings of different combinations to achieve the optimal compromise between the required maximum speed and the desired stiffness of the SBS. Stiffness, especially in ball bearings, is not constant but dependent on the magnitude of the load. The SBS is a statically indeterminate system, and an accurate calculation of the bearings and its nodes, as well as the whole system, is only possible using iterative methods. The exact calculation of SBS stiffness cannot be achieved without the use of powerful computers and high-quality software. Selection of the optimal configuration is achieved by analyzing a number of potential, alternative SBS solutions. The exact calculation of a large number of variants, and manufacturing their prototypes, is time consuming and very expensive. The solution is to quickly determine, with sufficient reliability, the parameters of the bearing nodes, which are influenced by the radial ball bearings. It is only in the final variation that an accurate calculation using iterative methods can be made, followed by subsequent production of a prototype for verification. At our workplace, we dedicate our time to intensive research into bearing nodes and the complete SBS.
