Cloud database services promise high performance, high availability, and elastic scalability. The system that provides cloud database services must, hence, be designed and managed in a way to achieve these high quality objectives. There are two technology trends that facilitate the design and management of cloud database service systems. First, the development of distributed replicated database software that is optimally designed for highly available and scalable Web applications and offered as open source software. Second, the possibility to deploy the system on cloud computing infrastructure to facilitate availability and scalability via on-demand provisioning of geo-located servers. We argue that a runtime quality measurement and analysis framework is necessary for the successful runtime management of cloud database service systems. Our framework offers three contributions over the state of the art: (i) the analysis of scaling strategies, (ii) the analysis of conflicts between contradictory objectives, and (iii) the analysis of system configuration changes on runtime performance and availability.

Rapid development in the field of computer technology enables tests that are progressively more accurate and extensive in the simulations of processes by specialized software. In the field of the automotive industry, the simulations have a wide application. Development of assistance systems is directed towards isolated systems in cars. This is problematic and this slower method is defined by the standards of road danger zones and special markings which are directly designed for the assistance systems, these could then be implemented into cars. The intention of this paper is to describe a simulation for finding the safety distance between two cars on different surfaces which can be used by Pre-crash Braking-control of ACC system. Simulation is provided not only for different surfaces but also for changes between them, changes of a surface gradient and the speed of the cars. The results of the simulation are centered around the cars safety distance. Moreover, the authors propose a solution for the elimination of accidents on road danger zones and railway crossings with special markings and an adapted assistance system.

The growing share of fluctuating power generation by renewable resources and the increasing distribution of battery electric vehicles require the integration of intelligent Energy Management Systems (EMS) into the electrical power grid. Smart Homes will be equipped with controllable consumers, suppliers and storages to realize a flexible consumption and supply of thermal and electrical energy. In this challenge, the interactive integration of the smart home's resident is essential to reduce comfort losses to a minimum. In this paper, we present a generic Energy Management Panel (EMP) providing the connection between the resident and the EMS and its integration into the EMS of a real smart home. The integrated approach considers thermal and electrical energy flows concurrently. In this way, the EMP provides an efficient operation of the EMS complying with the individual constraints of the resident.

The paper is a contribution to more effective using of simulation optimization. The paper presents the results of the comparison study of selected algorithms of simulation optimization. The authors have tested several algorithms on various simulation models. The simulation models of systems were created in simulator Witness. The main goal was to give the general procedure for effective usage of simulation optimization. The authors point out that the realization of simulation optimization is a compromise between acceptable time and accuracy of found solution. The final procedure involves the process of selection of algorithm, input variables, their set up of range and step selection. The proposal of the authors has already been realized and has brought significant time reduction.

Service-oriented systems consist of services exchanging messages. The service interactions often only form at runtime, and implicitly define instances of a business process. Our research addresses the problem of identifying process instances, so that process analytics and optimization techniques may be applied to service-oriented systems. We introduce a novel approach to discover process instances, which takes a catalog of messaging patterns and actual message logs as input. The pattern catalog describes abstract, common service interactions, while the message logs comprise service correlation information of the concrete system under consideration. We present the required concepts, a prototype, and an experimental evaluation of our approach. Results show that pattern-based process discovery is a feasible option to discover process instances in service-oriented systems.
