The paper presents a rather comprehensive implementation of a wide speed motion-sensorless control of IPMSM drives via direct torque and flux control (DTFC) with space vector modulation (SVM). Signal injection with only one D-module vector filter and phase-locked loop (PLL) observer is used at low speeds to estimate the rotor position and speed, to be used in the stator flux observer and, respectively, as speed feedback. A combined voltage-current model flux observer suits the whole speed range, while the current model fades away as speed increases. PWM and inverter nonlinearities compensation provides for a smooth current waveform even at 1 rpm. The paper demonstrates through ample experiments a 1750 rpm/1 rpm speed range full-loaded with sensorless DTFC-SVM.

New fast moving markets demand flexible, adaptable production facilities to allow manufacturing companies a fast reaction on consumer needs. Reconfigurable manufacturing systems provide a solution for these problems. Currently used software architectures have not been designed for providing an infrastructure for such manufacturing systems. With the new standard IEC 61499 the International Electrotechnical Commission provides an architecture for flexible distributed control systems. But it leaves open points regarding real-time execution and reconfiguration in realtime. This work focuses on real-time execution of IEC 61499 applications. It describes all execution elements of IEC 61499 within a device. Different implementation and scheduling approaches are compared and discussed. A first real-time scheduling approach for IEC 61499 control applications allows executing applications with periodic real-time constraints in parallel to unconstrained applications. It serves as a base for an enhanced full featured IEC 61499 real-time execution support.

The nonlinear phenomena of direct torque controlled (DTC) induction machine (IM) is investigated. Since the system is strongly nonlinear due to the hysteresis comparators, various nonlinear phenomena are expected. The objective of the paper is the study of these behaviors, exploring various system states from regular periodic operations to chaotic ones. The main goal is twofold, first by obtaining a deeper insight into the operation of DTC-IM the design of control parameters (width of hysteresis loops) can be supported with the help of the techniques of nonlinear dynamics such as Poincare maps and Bifurcation diagrams, secondly the sudden changes of system states or bifurcations expected due to the nonlinearities can be detected and studied.

The paper is concerned with the design of the bang-bang control for dual channel DC-DC buck and boost converter. The quality of the control is characterized by two quality figures, the voltage ripple and the voltage error. An optimum design method is described to realize good quality figures. When the output voltage is higher (lower) than the reference voltage the lower (higher) switching frequency is selected. In order to reduce the output voltage ripple the lower switching frequency is changed with the variation of the load. Calculation and simulation results of the two quality figures are presented and compared.

We discuss a new generic optimal controller structure for raw material blending in the cement industry. We focus on an important phase of the proportioning-burning-grinding operation triplet that essentially determines the cement quality; namely, the composition control of the raw mill system. We begin by describing the application of a generic optimal controller structure to this important phase, followed by a discussion of the control engineering background and the design of the realized controller. Finally, the control algorithm is discussed in a technology-independent manner.
