On modeling the process of solid fuel sublimation in a combined charge of a low-temperature gas-generator in the OpenFOAM software

A novel computational method is proposed for studying the processes of solid fuel sublimation in a combined charge of a low-temperature gas generator. The method is based on the finite volume discretization and the SIMPLE algorithm and is implemented in the OpenFOAM software. The computational results are compared with those obtained by the previously developed finite-difference method, and the higher performance of the new model is revealed. Another advantage of the method is that it is more convenient for use, more flexible for certain modifications, and can be easily adapted for multidimensional problems.

A new approach to the implementation of open distributed automatic control systems based on use of cheap computing nodes from the manufacturer Espressif, exchanging data via the ESP-NOW wireless protocol, is proposed. Due to the used data transfer protocol, it became possible to quickly and losslessly transfer data packets between computing nodes, which favorably affected the operation of the entire system as a whole. The solution proposed in the work allows the use of distributed automatic control systems (ACS) to control complex mechatronic objects, such as industrial manipulators, and allows location of computing nodes at remote points in the workspace. This fact is confirmed by the performance indicators obtained during testing of a real system. The paper proposes the basic architecture of such a system and describes the features of the implementation of individual nodes, presents diagrams of the classes of microprograms contained in computing nodes.

The luminescent sensory systems based on manganese-doped zinc sulfide quantum dots were developed for aqueous environment monitoring. The structural, optical and sensory characteristics of quantum dots were investigated. The mechanism of ZnS:Mn2+ interaction with methane in the aqueous media, as well as factors that have a primary influence on the formation of the sensory response in the reaction with methane, were determined. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland

The characteristics of partial discharges (PD) which make possible to draw conclusions about the technical condition of high-voltage equipment are considered. (HVE). The efficiency and feasibility of applying existing methods for assessing the technical condition of HVE based on the characteristics of the apparent charge are analyzed. Existing uncertainties in the theory of PD are examined, in particular, the question of the real number of PD sources (potential defects) present in the insulation of HVE and creating a complex integrated picture of PD pulses. A new approach to the analysis of PD based on the transition process model is proposed. With this approach, the PD process is characterized by the initial conditions, the free component, which depends on the properties of inclusion, insulation and parameters of the electric circuit, as well as the forced component, which depends on the external influence of the electric field. Diagnostic capabilities that can be obtained by applying the described approach to the analysis of PD processes to solve the problem of the real number of defects in the isolation of HVE are analyzed. © 2019 IEEE.

Kondo effect at ultimate atomic-scale two-dimensional limit: Au/Si(111)3×3 reconstruction with embedded Cr atoms

The occurrence of the Kondo effect in the ultimate two-dimensional (2D) case, when the thickness of the conducting film is reduced down to the atomic-scale limit, was explored taking the Tl-adsorbed Au/Si(111)3×3 reconstruction with embedded Cr atoms as a prototype system. The reconstruction is essentially an atomic-layer film, which resides on a semiconductor Si(111) substrate and demonstrates conductivity of a metallic type, at least down to 1.8 K. The tight binding of Cr atoms in the interstitial sites surrounded by six Si atoms prevents them from clustering. The Kondo effect in this system was investigated experimentally using low-temperature scanning tunneling spectroscopy and electronic transport measurements. Both techniques yield a Kondo temperature of ∼70–80K. A substantial increase of the sample resistivity caused by adding Cr atoms is believed to be a specific feature of the extremely thin metallic films, where small amounts of magnetic impurities can effectively block off the narrow conduction channel.

In the paper the new approach to the automated generation of the industrial robot tool trajectory was developed. This approach is based on the use of the operator interface implemented in the virtual reality environment. This interface displays a three-dimensional model of the industrial robot working area, obtained by means of the computer vision system. This model is used to specify the tool trajectory. The proposed interface allows to simplify and accelerate the industrial robots programming for perform technological operations in a working environment. © 2019 IEEE.

The paper is dedicated to solving of on-line fault detection and identification for thrusters of underwater robots. To detect and estimate the possible typical faults, bank of sliding mode observers is proposed. The new approach to construct such a bank of observers, based on the reduced model of the initial systems, is suggested and developed. This approach allows reducing complexity of the observers. The effectiveness of the proposed system was confirmed by computer simulation. © 2019 IEEE.

The paper presents an algorithm that allows determining the velocity required for the motion of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) along the trajectory described by a third-order parametric spline with consideration of the saturation of the thrusters. The velocity setting up on the basis of the proposed method has constant value and does not lead to exceedance the maximum allowed values of thrusters forces and moments on any part of the trajectory. The resulting expressions allow to estimate the program velocity of the motion in advance, before the motion *** simulation results confirm the efficiency of the proposed method for determining the program velocity of the AUV motion.

The article discusses an approach to the automated construction of web-portals for access to scientific data collections based on the data domain model and a support library used to generate a web interface “online”. automation of construction is based on an architectural generation scheme, which contains: a modeling apparatus represented by a template graph of a metalanguage and prototypes of description elements in a metalanguage; a domain model, consisting of a graphical ER-model and its objects representation; and a life cycle, consisting of a model in terms of Petri nets and an object representation for events in the model. Source code generation is performed in two stages. At the first stage, the objects of the original model form the view in each functional layer. In the second stage, generator produces output files for each functional layers corresponding to life cycle events. The support library presented in this article simplifies the generation of an interconnected set of files necessary to build the interface using the Django framework, which consists of: a page template, a CSS-style file for the page design, Javascript functions for the browser-side user interface, a Python file with a class corresponding to an interface page, as well as AJAX functions on the web server side required to display complex data. To ensure the consistency of the resulting set of files, URLs for AJAX functions are generated automatically and proxy functions in Javascript are produced that make a remote call to the server. The support library described in the article and the approach to automating the construction of information systems allows to formalize the users' understanding of the subject area, describe the interface and specify the data processing methods.
